'xbox2' listed in TRU system

Party Pooper
tinkering around in PCSI, doing the morning software top 10 lists, i happened to see 2 new listing's pop up. "xbox 2" "xbox 2 mature"

now, the fact that they're in there early is nothing new, but the fact that it's SO early is kind of puzzling. both DS and PSP showed up in the system about 2 months before they came out.

unfourtunately, no games were listed in the catergories, and when i poked around in PTSS, the system itself was not listed.

still, it's something i'll be keeping tabs on :D

I can only assume the regular Xbox 2 SKU will be cel shaded.

the mature is just a seperate category for software listings rated M.

every system has one.

the DS one is still empty, and the GBA one only has 1 game listed

:lol

I thought GBA had at least two...GTA and Max Payne 2?

GBA has more than a few, but they're so damn old most TRUs probably don't have them anymore.

Surprisingly, this just happened at EB, too. If you go into our trade-in section while processing a sale, and scroll through the section that lets you search for games on specific systems, Xbox 2 Hardware and Xbox 2 Software are available now.

He's already explained the mature thing. And you should not reveal such stuff you know ;)

surprise e3 launch? shades of saturn..

Hehe. Well, if they devs were only ever working on 2 cores, it's not much a problem. I just hope, if this turns out to be the case, that no one was coding with the expectation of 3. And the Ram...that would be an invisible upgrade as far as the developer's concerned, although a lot of early titles wouldn't necessarily make much use of the "extra" memory.

edit - I was thinking you were referencing the very late saturn "upgrade" in response to PS1..(sticking a second CPU in there)

It would be interesting if they did go with 512MB. Sony's response? Would a very large CPU horsepower advantage/smaller GPU advantage (possible..) overcome the RAM advantage, or would they bite the bullet and stretch themselves to more too?

sorry the idea of all other releases only being in the sytem a couple of months before they releaded just put the thought in my head - wasnt really thinking much beyond the humour of the idea of them doing it :)
