This game very much resembles the environments from Phantasy Star 1 and 2, with the character models of Shenmue.

You can't transfer characters or items from Episode I into Episode II. According to Gamefaqs you just get:

- Xenosaga Episode I OR Xenosaga Episode I: Reloaded will get you 'Swim Suit Skill' for KOS-MOS and Ziggy. Otherwise, you won't be able to find it in the game of Xenosaga Episode II.

- Also Initial Possession Skill Points Bonus (Depends on the level when you beat the game)

It's sad when that's the most interesting environment in those pics. I'm sure they're not far yet, or haven't taken screens from later in the game -- at least.. I hope.

Dead

well not really...yet
Most of those pics are obviously from the begginig since shion is in her Episode 1 clothes in most of em

So what's the word on HDD support? This game better support some NA HDD caching.

I haven't seen a HDD option anywhere in the game unlike the 1st one, which makes me think they aren't supporting it.

Which is bad because the field screen -> battle loading in ep2 seriously sucks. It loads each character onto the screen 1 at a time, same with enemies until they are all present. Then you can start the battle. >_<

Looks better than Episode 1, but still a bit dissapointing graphically. Still doesn't look as good as, say, FFX.

Seriously, why do the Japanese put up with so much English? If there was this much Japanese in US games, I'd go berserk.

Ugh.

Someone, please tell me XenoCard is back. And I can use my deck.

.

They're pretty much forced to learn it in school, so it's only natural that it's everywhere.

Maybe I'm the only one who sees that....

I've only put in 3-4 hours so far so I may change my opinion later...but I think the game looks much worse in non-doctored cutscenes (aka real-time vs. fmv) than ep1. The character models basically have very little facial expression whereas I thought the faces in ep1 were some of the best in rpgs...and at least in ep1 MOMO didn't look like a freaky alien and Jr. didn't look like a girl :(

Field/Dungeon graphics look great though, much better than ep1 and the touched up fmvs look quite good too. It's just the in-game cutscenes are ugly IMO.

Just need time to get used to the new look...just need time...just need time...I hope ;_;

It sucks that the new faces aren't very expressive, though I have to admit that I prefer the somewhat more realistically-proportioned style in ep. 2. In motion, the ep. 1 character models looked like anime resin figures magically brought to life--the facial proportions plus the 3D modeling gave them the feel of toys. ^^; Love the style of the new status screen, too--the high-tech, futuristic look really helps set the mood, IMO.

Thanks for the impressions! Looking forward to hearing more as you get further into the game. :)

Here's a major thing that's bugging me while playing the game (milage may vary)

917917_20040624_screen022.jpg

vs.

917917_20040624_screen023.jpg

Top one is from a cutscene using in-game engine models
Bottom one is from a touched up FMV scene

See the color difference? For some reason pretty much every characters in-game model has faded dull colors(compare the black level in Gaignun's hair & jacket in the 2 pics) whereas the FMVs have vived colors with a great black level. I don't really see why they can't have good coloring on in-game models I mean color doesn't take up more processing power does it? It's almost as if they turn up the brightness a ton during in-game engine cutscenes. To me it's quite jarring when the characters are dull looking in one scene and then the next scene they are suddenly vivid :(

Actually I think I blame some of it on the fact that the in-game cutscenes feature absolutely zero lighting. So they just make them ultra bright. Whereas the touched up ones have some nice after-effects type light sources and lighting added.

Seriously I'm being pretty harsh on the game's visuals, but I'm just picky like that >_<

Looks like they're going for the more realistic future look, a la the aforementioned 2001 or Minority Report, for instance.

A lot of recent japanese games had HDD capabalities, Kingdom Hearts for example had HDD support, but it was cut out of the American version because Sony HDD hadn't came out in America yet.

I wonder what the reasoning behind that was. (Maybe to discourage people from importing the HDD before it was officially released in the US?) Shame they felt the need to do that--it would've been nice to have had a bunch of HDD-ready games already on store shelves when the unit was released here.

Just finished disc1 in EIGHT HOURS ;_; this better not be a game half the length of ep1 which was already a little short :(

Ever see 2001? That's what they're going for this time.

I'm surprised more people didn't catch this, with all of the references to monoliths, the lack of music, mostly white backgrounds, and a scientist/astronaut going nuts and all.
