Do you mean 'Downroad'?

If so, thats because they can't actually hear the difference beween 'lu' and 'ru', as they do not have that sound in their speech. So they have to guess. And sometimes they guess wrong.

Its like how the French can't prounounce 'The' properly, because their language has no equivalent of the 'th' sound.

Actually, I can with my Firefox Mouse Gestures extension, the one that leaves trails. But sadly, for every Japanese character that I write, Firefox says 'Unknown Gesture'...
