Yoshi-P Would Like to Re-Release Vagrant Story and FF Factics - Muses About Next Parasite Eve

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Yoshi P needs to focus on FFXIV. This is why the game is losing popularity. He’s already moved on.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Can Yoshi P just shut the fuck up and let the actual creator, Matsuno talk instead?

He can keep Parasite Eve out his motherfucking mouth. The 3rd Birthday was bad enough under Tabata.

I'd love it if Square remastered and rereleased all of their PS1 games (including the oft forgotten Brave Fencer Musashi).

But there's not enough money in that for Square Enix, so they'll just continue milking FFVII and selling expensive digital items in FFXIV (a game with a monthly subscription).

Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve 1 and 2 are fine with just a remaster but FFT deserves full remake treatment, but make it more balanced this time some endgame missions are still some of the hardest I've seen in any SRPG just not in a good way.

I'd bite for Vagrant Story and Tactics.

Let Parasite Eve die. It was an important IP in the PS1 days, not anymore. You're chasing a ghost. Grab an emulator and play the originals, that's all you really need.
And yet parasite Eve is the one that would have the most success with modern audiences if done right.

It’s a slightly horror game with final fantasy esthetics.

Get rid of the turn based and make it more like a faster paced RE remake.

Vagrant story would sell to very few, and tactics would be the easiest to succeed with if they just do a octopath traveller type approach, but again not a major multi audience game.

You don't need the parasite eve IP to make the game you're describing. If you're going to core the game's mechanics and make something different.....make something different.

I think Vagrant story would sell well considering it's legacy as one of the greatest PS1 era RPGs that many didn't get chance to play the first time around. A second life if you will.

Would love a re-release of Parasite Eve. Brave Fencer Musashi too. Vagrant Story I already own and have no interest in FF Tactics.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Also, if you want these games playable on modern consoles, why not just re-release them as PS1 Classics on PSN?

Bonus for people like me who wouldn't have to buy them again.

Finally, someone big at S-E is looking deeper in the vault room. There's probably cobwebs in the back.

And where's Matsuno?

Do you think after XIII, XV and XVI S-E is capable of producing a quality Final Fantasy game that is not a remake of VII?
I wasn't aware that VII Remake was a quality game. As far as I am concerned, I am skipping XVI and VII Remake entirely. I want knew games, not remakes nor Game of Throne s rip-off.

And yes, I think they can perfectly make a new game that will be just as good, and faithful to the series, as XIII trilogy and XV.

Yoshi P needs to fix his own game before daydreaming about ruining other games. Besides Matsuno stopped collabing with him on XIV because they allegedly kept wanting to alter or censor Matsuno's contributions to Bozja/Zadnor and was the reason why it got scrapped midway through.

Not sure why people want Parasite Eve to be a REmake clone when PE had a unique hybrid battle system mixing regular attacks with Parasite(PE) abilities.

hopefully as playstation exclusives

I wouldn't count on that. SIE can't even get a timed exclusive from Pearl Abyss, I doubt they'll have luck with Square-Enix going forward considering what their CEO's been signaling. Tho SIE largely have themselves to blame for that, IMHO.

Anyway, I'd be SUPER down for a new Parasite Eve but like jshackles jshackles was saying, return it to its roots. Games like Metaphor and BG3 are showing you get still get a ton of mileage out of turn-based combat systems in RPGs, and even spice them up with some good pacing and pseudo-real time elements. Romancing SaGa 2 Remake's success shows people want that out of SE's own games, too.

But last I heard, people were telling me the original author hated what SE did with the IP and they've been the reason a new game's been MIA. Maybe if SE approach them with a good pitch that returns the game to the original's roots, the author or whoever owns the IP rights will let them go ahead with a new installment.

First time I've seen anybody wanting a REmake style take on Parasite Eve. Personally, I want something that still has the fixed camera angles like REmake, but with the non tank controls PE had, and a turn-based combat system that's more dynamic and fluid than what the original one had.

Budget-wise something similar to Romancing SaGa 2 Remake would be just fine. Doesn't need to be Rebirth-tier in budget, in fact I think SE are going to largely shift away from that approach going forward but that is a different convo.

Vagrant Story for sure, Tactics has the excellent War of the Lions version on iOS which I played recently so I’m not as keen on another release of that.

I just have a feeling if they revived PE it would just be 3rd Birthday all over again as a generic Third Person Shooter. I'd much prefer a remaster with some modern controls and that's it. Change nothing else.

And you are correct. The PE author won't let them touch the IP again.

Yes, Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story — entries that felt one off although the former obviously glt sequels. But these were games developed at a time when the company stepped out of just FF.

They couldn’t miss in the snes ps1 days
Definitely had a catalogue.

Still, there’s something about FF8 and PE, maybe the overlap in presentation and development philosophy are noticeable. Both games capture strongly the PS1 era prior to 2000. Could be Nomura’s overbearing presence, or Uematsu seemingly inspired by Shimomura’s work in PE. Games like VS and FFT, same setup as a consequence of the overlapping staff.

Nah, I genuinely think SE have learned their lesson after 3rd Birthday. They also have to be seeing the success of various turn-based RPGs on the market today, and their own remakes like the recent RS2R, to realize they don't have to bastardize RPGs into gun-totting action shooters to find a market.

Again, if they can give a good proof of concept to the author, or a strong pitch, I think they'd let them make another game. Probably safe to go with a remake of the original. If that goes well, remake the sequel with gameplay closer to the original & its' remake.

Also Einhander, Brave Fencer Mushashi, Front Mission 2, SaGa Frontier 2.

5th gen was just such a creative and risk-taking era for many devs, particularly Japanese ones.

Those are SE IPs and Matsuno is no longer a SE employee. This guy is an executive/business leader in the company. He's literally doing part of his job right now.

I'll never understand why that was used in the marketing. The only thing FF16 and GoT have in common is the british accents.

FFT is happening, it's been rumored for ages now and it's probably being handled by Yoshi-P's team with Matsuno overseeing it. I would loooooove a port of Vagrant Story, at least make it more accessible, I don't really mind if it's not a remaster. PE lol, that series is dead.

Or just make a real Parasite Eve 3. I will always prefer new games over living in the past.
