I find it hard to care anymore, this will never get finished. He'll just release a couple of chapters than it will go on hiatus again for 4 years.
He should maybe write a novel to finish the story. The art isn't particularly good and since most of the current arc is mostly walls of text and people standing around it seems like a novel format would fit better anyway.

I'm hoping if the return of Bleach ends up with a ton of viewers and merch sales, that more anime studios might actually return to unfinished works and finish them. I don't see it happening with HxH but maybe with some other franchises.

Bleach is honestly just one example in a ton that have been happening recently.
Shaman King, Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, Dororo, Devilman, Digimon Adventure 01, and soon Urusei Yatsura got full remakes. Full Metal Panic, Kino’s Journey, Index/Railgun, Higurashi, Boogiepop Phantom, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tiger and Bunny, and soon Spice and Wolf and Devil is a Part Timer got sequel seasons after a long wait.
So yeah, honestly anything is possible at this rate.

This was not a thread I was expecting to read tonight. Great news if all of this is true.
I'm probably going to get castrated for this, but I didn't like the Chimera Ant arc outside of like the last few encounters. I was always hoping we'd see more, looks like it might actually happen?

a reminder that the last chapter of HxH was back in November of 2018. that's over three and a half years ago.
I'm a huge manga fan, more so than anime, and I fully understand the manga artist's schedule on a weekly magazine is crazy and unhealthy. I would always support the artist to take the time to rest and stay in good health. but 3.5 years? dude really need to pick up the pace a little. or at the very least, tell me what's wrong with him.

I think the problem with a new anime is that there's no new completed story arc and with Togashi you don't know if the current arc will be finished in 2 years, in 10 years or never.
So I don't know if anyone will want to invest in a new anime only to have to leave the story arc half finished like "well....see you in 10 years!....maybe".

Big meh. As already stated, this shit is on hiatus for way too long. On top of that, the quality of the story peaked at the end of the Chimera Ant arc. After that, it's been mostly uninteresting bullshit, save for the awesome fight between Hisoka and Chrollo. After Gon went down, the story went to Killua, who is mildly interesting, to Kurapika, who is about the least interesting character in the group. I can count on my closed fist the number of fucks I give about Kurapika and some dumbfuck royal succession game. I want to see the dark continent. Otherwise, I want to see some proper nen fights. It's like Togashi said to himself, "You know what the fans would love? More fucking politics." That's not what made the series good IMO.
Honestly, Gon was my favorite character, and we're now a decade removed from him being any significant part of the story. The manga really is an exercise in tedium now, and I'm almost certain he'll never finish it. You don't take these insanely long hiatuses for a project that you are still creatively invested in. Hand the story off to your assistants, or do like One, and let an amazing artist handle the artwork, while you just build out the rest of the story. Anything but this. The current situation is frustrating for fans. End the series so that people can move on emotionally from the project.
Similarly, Inoue will never finish Vagabond. That's probably the biggest hurt ever for me with manga. HxH had a satisfactory conclusion for me after the ant arc. Vagabond was really just getting into its last arc, and I was really interested in where it was going. Too bad. I respect what the mangaka do, and understand that it's not easy work. However, there is definitely a certain courtesy owed fans, especially those who buy volumes. They're stuck with an incomplete collection, eventhough they probably bought lots of subpar chapters, due to a desire to have the complete set. Tell them that nothing new is coming.
