Music Videos, a visual genre that's sadly dying in this modern world of 24/7 Pimp my ride repeats. A modern videos I really, REALLY liked was Dirty Vegas's video for their track called DAYS GO BY.

The story is about this business man who used to be a break dancer back in the '80, one night when he was dancing, he met this girl, their love only lasted a night, and the girl just disappeared after that. He never saw her again, and nobody knows what happened to her. Every year since, he shows up at the same spot, same day, where he dances from dawn till night, hoping that she will show up.

You can watch the video at ifilm by clicking HERE

Me, my sister and one of my friend have a nearly cult thing going for that video, we know every line, and when we're bored, we always start quoting random lines only to finish with the dramatic.. AND NOW HE DANCES TO BRING HER BACK.

The video was released in 2003, and it's one of the last really cool video I remember seeing.

So gaf, whachoofavorites?

It would be nice if people actually listed the names of the videos they choose...

Anyway. I like, off the top of my head:

all Radiohead videos, though "Just" is the one that immediately comes to mind.
"Where It's At" - Beck
"Losing My Religion" - REM
"Clint Eastwood" - Gorillaz

Which song is that? I've seen the video and thought it was really cool.

That would be Rubber Jonny.

I for one have stopped paying attention to videos as of 95. There's some good ones out there no doubt, but most lack that creative edge that was so prevalant in the late 80's/early 90's. About the only person who's doing anything consistently engaging is Gondry.

It's on Druqks (Aphex Twin), that's all I know. I can't remember any of the song names from Druqks. :lol

Common - Go
Death in Vegas - Aisha
The White Stripes - Blue Orchid
Unkle - Be There
Nobukazu Takemura - Sign
Mint Royale - Show Me

Some of my favorites :)

I'm a pretty big fan of music videos in general. It's too bad that there are artists that have given up on the medium completely. Favorite director/designer by far is Johnny Hardstaff. Check out http://www.sputnik7.com/vod/musicvideos/ if you want to see some cool music videos.

Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Beta Band - Assessment
eels - Novocaine For The Soul
Micheal Jackson - Thriller
Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

Among others, I guess.

Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

Bowie - Life on Mars

Daft Punk - Insterstella 5555 (might as well be a music video)

Gorillaz - 19-2000

Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Fiona Apple - Across the Universe
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice
Radiohead - High and Dry

Already mentioned:

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution
The Beastie Boys - Sabotage

When I think of music videos, I naturally of think Paula Abdul.

Cold Hearted, Straight Up, Opposites Attract, Forever Your Girl, and my personal favorite Rush Rush featuring Neo from the fucking Matrix movies.

Duran Duran - Girls On Film (uncut)
Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
Wax - California
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
Radiohead - Just
The Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Portishead - Only You
U.N.K.L.E. - Rabbit In Your Headlights

I'm sure there are tons more I can think of...

Days Go By was a good song... that had to be the first time I've ever seen a progressive song blow up and get so popular almost overnight... prog ain't exactly the most mainstream genre.

Some good choices in this thread, I am quite partial to the videos Daft Punk had for their Discovery singles... From the artist of Galaxy Express 1999 I believe.

I liked Coldplay's old Trouble video, with the cardboard cutout style.
That was the new one, made for the US IIRC - The original was the one with MArtin sitting in that chair, tied up in the spotlight (which was a lot more dramatic than the cardboard one)

All is full of love - Bjork
Windowlicker - Aphex Twin
True Faith - New Order
Can you feel it - The Jacksons
Thriller - Micheal Jackson
You could be mine - Guns N Roses :D

The Scientist - Coldplay
Smack My Bitch Up - Prodigy
Take on Me - Aha
Closer - NIN

I like almost every Foo Fighters video. I really think they have the best (recent) "body" of work in terms of videos.

'Do the Evolution' should have been MUCH more popular than it is. It seemed like Mtv only played it for a week, then it disappeared. The music + the visuals were top notch .. but not many people got to see it.

nine inch nails - The Perfect Drug

Very beautiful imagery. It's also my favorite NIN song, but that's probably because of the video. I do want to see Trent die a gory (or Gorey, LOL) death because of that whole "With Teeth" thing.

Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel. I always loved it, then it stared topping all the "best of all time" video lists and I became worried, since I usually don't agree with those lists!

Birdhouse in your Soul, TMBG

Accidents Will Happen, Elvis Costello

Walk This Way, Run DMC

And She Was, Talking Heads

Edit: Ha, I was thinking of Girls on Film, too! Wouldn't call it a favorite, but it certainly has appeal!

And I can't believe I forgot Take on Me. The end is an hommage to a now-mostly-forgotten movie that was out recently before that, Altered States.

Most of the Michel Gondy and Chris Cunningham stuff is great. Anyone who doesn't already have the Director's Label DVD's should really get 'em. Volumes 4-7 ship on Sept. 13 and feature some of my other favorites:

Radiohead - Street Spirit, Karma Police
Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity
Jay Z - 99 Problems
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Madonna - Bedtime Story

I almost always love The Chemical Brothers videos. They always seem to pick interesting people to work with.

Some of my favorites:
- Get Yourself High
- The Test
- Star Guitar
- Believe (please watch this video)

Is there anywhere on the web to watch older music videos, like Elvis Costello and Talking Heads?
