1. Spiderman by Sega
2. Aliens vs Predator
3. Final Fight
4. Streets of Rage 2
5. Captain America & The Avengers

I would've included Double Dragon if only the slowdown wasn't so massive.

1) D&D SOM

2) SoR 3

3) D&D ToD

4) AvP (arcade)

5) Sor 2

Nobody list TMNT or X-Men, those old Konami brawlers were fun but were made to eat quarters. In TMNT a shit footsoldier could break your combo and knock you down whenever he damn well wanted to. In X-Men, using a super cost a charge plus took off life; also nearly every boss killed the whole team in one hit. I played them a ton too, but they were shit.

2. Streets of Rage 2

That's all I feel are worth mention. Rest don't hold up, even Golden Axe / II. Haven't tried SS Guardian Heroes yet.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
1. Final Fight (Arcade/Sega CD)
2. Streets Of Rage 2 (Genesis)
3. Guardian Heroes (Saturn)
4. Double Dragon II (NES)
5. Double Dragon Advance (GBA)

-It's nostalgia that puts FF and SoR2 ahead of Guardian Heroes, which has so much to offer for a BEU. I do still play all these games all the time though, and haven't touched GH in years for whatever reason.
-The original Final Fight was the only good FF game IMO.
-TMNT, X-Men, and Simpsons were fun, but as it's already been pointed out, were total quarter eaters.
-Double Dragon is the only BEU series that was better on the home consoles than in the arcades!
-Capcom's D&D games, AvP, and Battle Circuit are all awesome, but I still like Final Fight the best.
-SoR3 rocks, but not as much as SoR2. Crappy music brings it down too.
-Golden Axe sucks. I've got all three Genesis games and all the arcade games emulated...it still sucks. :p
-Sengoku 3 on the Neo-Geo would be up on the list; I love the game play, but since you fight the same two enemies over and over again, it'sway too repetitive even for a BEU.

hyperbolically metafictive
1. guardian heroes
2. alien vs. predator
3. d+d shadow over mystara
4. advance guardian heroes
5. streets of rage 2

1. Streets of Rage 2
2. Advance Guardian Heroes
3. D&D SoM
4. Streets of Rage (1/3 tie)
5. Double Dragon Advance

I really don't play enough of these to have formed much of an opinion on many others. I certainly wouldn't mind discovering more that (like AGH) rely more on skill and technique than credit-feeding and repetition.

Anybody remember that game Rival Turf?

lol

WOO! This game was awful, but at least you could have 2P simultaneous (helped us SNES owners survive until the Sega CD FF release). Rival Turf's sequel, which I can't remember the name of right now, was much better.

you can't forget Dynamite Cop, any side scrolling beat'em up that features moves like "hitting ennemies with other ennemies" is very cool, Caribbean Cool !

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a classic imo)
2. Streets of Rage 2 (3 might be better but it's been awhile)
3. Viewtiful Joe
4. Guardian Heroes
5. Captain Commando

Wow, so I guess everyone in here hated Ninja Gaiden? Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned. Also I would mention the old arcade Superman game. The one Superman game that didn't suck. It wasn't totally a SS beat em up, but had multiple gameplay types that all rocked. Graphics were nice back in the day too.

Me personally it goes.

1. D&D - man those games rocked hard and still do.
2. AvP - Pretty solid.
3. SoR2
4. Superman
5. Ninja Gaiden- for nostalgia a bit too.

And even i am moderately surprised
