Could this be a remake of Ys3 for the PC much like the Eternal remakes of Ys1-2? Ys3 is the only game to have taken place in Felghana and unless Adol's going back (unlikely based on Ys6's ending) it would most likely be a remake. *insert hype here*

Seems like a stretch, but of all the games, III needs a complete makeover most. Still, it seems like it would be most logical for this to be Ys VII, given how long ago VI came out for the PC in Japan. Interesting if so, because it will wrap back and provide the only known connection to III (well, besides Adol).

Hmmm, after reading the update at http://www.falcom.com/info/ it seems more likely that it's Ys7 too. They refer to it as the latest work in the Ys series, and from the blurred out preview image it seems more like the Ys6 engine than a makeover of Ys3's gameplay. Oh well, wishful thinking, but when the Songs of Zemeth album comes out in March we'll know for sure.

I'd played the TG16 Ys 1&2 a bit back in the day, as well as Ys for SMS and Ys III for SNES, but that's pretty much it. Let's say I want to get back into the series now -- which version of 1 and 2 would be best? The Japanese PS2 versions?

Probably the PS2 Eternal release, only because it seems to me that the PC/Win version of Eternal had problems on non J-Win systems.

Ah well what if that's not a prob? My PC is set up to handle either/or, so in that case are you saying the PC version is better than the PS2 version?

Yes definitely. If you can handle J games on your WinXP, the Ys Eternal PC versions are the way to go. The PS2 port has bugs and stuff I hear, and honestly, for a pure 2D game, it just looks sharper on a monitor/PC as opposed to TV/PS2.

Possibly, just like Ys6 PS2/PSP. The PS2 version also has 2 new NPCs which you use to access the music box and I think an illustration collection. Overall if stuff like voice, extra bonuses are your thing then go with the console, but the PC versions will always run better and usually look better too imo. The ports of Falcom's stuff of late have been pretty bleh, from what I saw of the loading in the LoH3 remake on the PSP... *sigh*.

Actually, judging by that blurred picture, it kinda looks like the game is a 2D side-scroller that uses polygons for the environments and characters. Ofcourse, since the picture is kinda hard to make out, I could be very wrong. If it is a 2D side-scroller though, it could very well be a remake of Ys III. If its new or a remake, I'm still happy that a new Ys is coming out.

My guess is a new Ys. If they were going to rename YS3, they'd have done it with the upcoming PS2 remake of it, but since this is the first we're hearing of "The Oath in Felgahna," I think it's safe to say this is a new game.

i have both (PC and PS2) and the PC version definitely looks sharper and clearer, of course. i would recommend going PC unless you hate gaming at a desk.

There was a company working on bringing Ys Eternal (for PC) over in English a few years back. For the life of me I can't remember who though.

Yep yep. The Ys III remake is separate from this; that one's coming out for PS2 in March and is still called Wanderers From Ys.
