Ys: ARK OF NAPISHTIM.

Damn, I just rented this game and it honestly is not too shabby. The control scheme is a bit basic, but so far the sounds are pretty solid, the storyline is building up and it's a pretty damn good-looking game. Plus it plays really quickly, which is nice.

Anybody else play this? Will I end up regretting making this thread as the game just gets more and more awful, or will this continue to be a solid RPG experience to keep me entertained til Shadow Hearts 3 comes out?

ARK OF FUCKING NAPISHTIM. BABYLON'S FUCKING FLOOD SURVIVOR.

I enjoyed it a lot all the way through. It isn't too long (unless you must do all of the side-quests.) Has a bit of an old-school vibe, which I liked. Music is very good, although I wish there was more of the usual Ys butt-rock.

Anyway, if you're enjoying it now, it doesn't really drop off. You'll likely enjoy it all the way through

:lol at thread title.

I REALLY enjoyed it. I played through Ys Book I and II waaay back in the day on TurboDuo, and Wanderers from Ys III on SNES, so I had a little something to go by, it wasn't my first Ys game, but I'm no John tv either. :)

I got a demo disc in the spring with this game on it, and was disappointed in the demo. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it seemed meh. Then when it came out I thought heck, I'll give this game a shot, it can't be that bad, it's Ys, and I had a great time playing through it. It reminded me of how games used to be. The graphics may not look like much at first, but after playing for a while I loved the style, especially Port Rimoge (spoiler? nah). It shouldn't take you too long to complete either.

OH CRAP that new thread title is all Dragona. :lol

This game is still sealed in my 100lb backlog of rpgs. And my crazy ass is still ordering RPG games online. This will be my first Ys game.

Oh I fully agree with you. My first sentence was in regard to the original thread title, then when I finished typing, you had changed it. Spelling mistakes are my absolute worst pet peeve, especially when they're butchered to the degree that one was. Many thanks. :)

It's just like that weary versus wary shit that even gets into printed publications. I am so sick of that crap. :P

No, the most annoying one would be "alot" instead of "a fucking lot".

Grrr, that makes me angry everytime I see it.

I enjoyed Ys a lot.

It has that old-school feel where one level can mean the difference from life and death.

Weapons, and leveling up. That's it.

Simplistic gameplay can suck, but simplistic gameplay in a pretty damn challenging game = old school fun.

Konami's utter butchery aside, it's an excellent game, I love it, and will replay it very soon.

And rebuy it when the PSP version hits.

Ys - The Oath in Felghana (JP Windows PCs for now) is a remake of Ys III (Napishtim is Ys VI) using the Ys VI engine. Trust me, we cannot have too much of that Ys VI engine, it's fantastic.

Yep, about that time to replay Napishtim. :)

Wow... someone needs a blowjob or something. Flippin' out cuz I spelled the name wrong?

OMG YOU FUCKIN DIE YOU SONOFABITCH YOU SPELLED A GAME WRONG AND HAVEN'T STUDIED ANCIENT MYTHOLOGY AS MUCH AS I HAVE THEREFORE YOU'RE AN INFERIOR PERSON!!!

...right? Ugh.

Game's still going good though. Learned pretty quickly that I can't rush through this one. I've gotta take some time to level up a bit.

By the way, there is a code you can input to:
a) remove the horrible GC and restore all of the original anime cut scenes
b) remove the horrible english voices and restore the japanese voices with english subtitles.

Make sure you play it this way... Makes the game 10x better.

I played a demo of it and I liked it but decided to buy it on PSP cuz I feel it could be more portable friendly IMO.

Besides the PSP seems to be the ultimate version with more content, combat moves, graphics more like past Y's, expanded storyline, etc.
