Oh well, I'm thinking of getting a hybrid or something for my next car as I'm really sick of spending $40+ in gas per week and going up even more. I drive a MB E320, great commute car during heavy traffic just sucks up too much premium gas :(. As far as I'm concerned looks are becoming less of an issue as long as its got some acceleration to deal with the jerk offs in SoCal freeways :p

I like the looks of that Smart roadster. Just 1750lbs *drool*. That's some potential to work with right there. I wonder what can be done with that 3-cylinder engine though. Or if a small 4-banger might fit. Probably needs suspension work too, though I don't know for sure. Is the Roadster being sold here? That Zap site was useless. PEACE.
Brabus had a pretty brutal V6 biturbo engine for the Roadster, but I am not sure if it'll make the road.

In the US, this car ought to sell well in "blue" states (esp. the west coast).

Once gas reaches $4/gallon here, then it might sell okay even in "red" states.

As far as safety, I imagine that it's like a race car: a strong cage to protect the occupant. Together with room for deceleration inside the cage (ie, air bags), ought to be all you need (in a manner of speaking).

So, any word on US prices? I'm in the middle of the reddest state (Utah) full of giant SUVs and even larger pickups used for personal transport, but I drive a Focus and I'd like my next vehicle to be a hybrid or turbodiesel. Something tiny and efficient like this would be just what I'd be interested in. Plus, with the way many vehicles around here just barely fit into generous suburban-sprawl parking spaces, it'd be nice to have something that's less at-risk for scrapes/door-openings.
