Zelda in November?

And releasing Wind Waker in the spring was a mistake IMO. They could have sold more copies of it in the fall.

There's just no way this game is coming out before E3 at this rate. Think about it. We're almost at the end of January ... and we haven't gotten any official media or updates on this game since last E3 really.

Launching it with the Revolution will ensure the best possible sales all around, so it's a no-brainer I think, especailly for profit-concious Nintendo.

yeah but Wind Waker was not a huge game or an awesome one. big suck fest.
so it deserved not to get released during the peak shopping season. I can say this cuz I own both a Gamecube and WW.

You forgot about Link's Awakening, which was released in 1993, so Zelda fans had to wait just 5 years. If New Super mario Bros and/or Mario 128 are released this year, Mario Fas will have waited 4 years since Mario Sunshine , but that's not worse than waiting 6 years for a successor for Super Mario 64 ;). As Minish Cap was released in 2004 (2005 in the USA?), the wait for Zelda fans wasn't that much a problem, but Zelda TP is announced quite a long time, so the wait for THIS game is especially long (although Super Mario 128 has still to be released and was announced 1998 ^^)

The Metroid drought was the N64's fault. Nintendo felt they couldn't do a 2D game after Mario 64 & Zelda OOT, and at the time, I think they had no idea how to do a Metroid in 3D that wouldn't suck.

Actually, there's been a Zelda game released every year since 1998.

1998 - Ocarina of Time (N64)
1999 - Link's Awakening DX (GBC)
2000 - Majora's Mask (N64)
2001 - Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
2002 - A Link to the Past/Four Swords (GBA)
2003 - The Wind Waker (GC)
2004 - Four Swords Adventure (GC)
2005 - The Minish Cap (GBA)
2006 - Twilight Princess (GC)

Sailing (especially in nasty weather) was awesome, I actually enjoyed triforce shard hunting, and the toon shading was wonderfully implemented.

Probably because it plays like a main Zelda game.

Now Mario doesn't count unless it's a platformer, and even then, it has to be MARIO doing the platforming (Super Mario Land 3 and Super Mario World 2 don't count).

Likewise, when looking at the Metroid series, we wouldn't count Metroid Prime Pinball as it's pinball, or the Metroid Prime series in general, since it sucks.
 
I thought Metroid Prime & MP2 captured Metroid gameplay perfectly, just slower paced. Collecting powerups, backtracking & unlocking new areas, and the bosses. It feels like Metroid, and thats a compliment to me. Retro got it perfect.

Now, i'm not saying I wouldn't mind a 3rd person game, with faster paced action, but the way Retro is taking the franchise is very cool with me. With the revmote though, they may be inclined to make it more of a traditional FPS, which I don't want. Maybe a few 'OMG a horde is coming! Kill all!' moments, but leave the adventure parts intact please :).

Anyway, back on topic; Wind Waker & Twilight Princess are better than unannounced N-gage title. Discuss.
 
Zelda: 4SA (GCN) kicked mucho ass. Best 2D graphics in a Zelda game ever, 100s of enemies on one screen, ingenious puzzles in dungeons, TONS and TONS of dungeons (this game was basically one big dungeon), awesome boss fights, Wind Waker's bosses, Dark/Light world, beautifull 3D effects (particles), Wind Waker's smoke and fire etc.

I know I'll be flamed to hell and back but 4SA is a better Zelda game than Minish Cap. I enjoyed it more, it was more fun. I can't even imagine how fun it could be when played with friends :O

Was there any hype for that game anyway? I don't remember GAF even playing it...

Not a whole lotta hype for either 2D Zelda you mentioned. A lot of appreciation though. I don't remember anything bad being said about it.

not a lot of hype, maybe because the game came out in europe 2 months ahead of nort america.
 
4 Swords would be the perfect Zelda app for DS.

I loved the game btw. I only played a few games with more than 2 players, but it was incredible. Some of the puzzles in later levels using the hammer, or more than one item/variable in conjunction were devilish. The voting system made it amusing whenever someone got picked on too. I loved the way it was a necessity to work together, but also to compete against one another. Simply brilliant.

I'd like to have that kind of graphical engine (zoom ins/outs, particles/fire/smoke/other graphical flare) used in a proper 2d Zelda game someday. By 'proper' I mean more in the vain of a traditional adventure, rather than level based. For me, 2d Zeldas are still better than the 3d ones.

I love the 2D zeldas, however I still prefer the 3D ones since they're more immersive.

For me personally there are no 2D or 3D Zeldas, only Good and Bad Zeldas.

And Wind Waker is sadly the latter :(
 
I replayed Wind Waker 6 months ago, and it felt much better than the first time. The atmosphere is amazing, however the game falls short on several occasions:

-music(with some exceptions)
-too much sea, to little land to explore
-stupid sidequests
-game is waaaay too easy

The celshading has nothing to do with that though.

I was kinda the opposite. I played it through when it came out and loved every bit. I played through it again a year later and came up with the same complaints as everyone else (I actually played the game as I was sailing instead of switching back and forth from The Simpsons).

But really, the complaints were really overblown. The sailing was bad but it didn't cripple the game (especially since halfway you get that neat little warp thingy). And the Triforce quest, which admittedly should've had the map part thrown out, did have little tasks for you to accomplish for each piece. I had forgotten you needed to do that.

I loved the dungeons and bosses though, and thought it had the best told traditional Zelda story out of all of them (LA and MM are great as well, but they arent the save-the-princess type).

To sum it up: Wind Waker didn't deliver.

Certainly not the best game in the whole franchise.
 
If the fire and ice mountains had been fleshed out into fuller dungeons, or you would have been able to venture further into Hyrule beneath the waves, it would have been a classic. They gave it a look that 1998 era Zelda fans were gonna find hard to swallow unless the game was gonna be perfect... then they rushed it out of the door. Its a fucking shame. But its still one of the better games this generation. Especially in its genre.

If it had of been land based it would have been exactly how I envisaged LttP or LA in 3d. The new one is how I envisage Ocarina of Time done with better 3d. Not really what I'm personally clamouring for but I can see how people dig it.

It irritates me how much time they've spent on Ocarina of Time 2, when they never really gave Wind Waker a proper chance of being a fan favourite in rushing it out.

yeah but since I am a huge fan of OoT and Majoras Mask, Zelda TP will be much more anticipated for me than WW was.


Now if Nintendo could get their butt out of their ass.

uh yeah people are speculating about that, and some are even 99% sure it will happen. I actually doubt it.

I just don't think Nintendo will make an ending that is already obvious.
 
What's actually been said about the story of the game, other than that you can turn into another worlf and go to a cel-shaded realm?

Well they did say that it takes place after OOT but before TWW. Pretty much thats all except for some other minor details.
 
Wind Waker is definitely one of the greater games from this generation, but i just about spat my drink out when Jabun just GIVES you the damn pearl. There better not be any of that shit in TP! Any delays bode well that that 'phase' Nintendo was going through is long over. This many delays simply MUST mean that Shigeru is right behind the wheel with this one.
 
November would be a joke that I personally would not find funny. If Nintendo is seriously going to try and promote this as a 'current gen/next gen' bridge of the gap, its going to do more damage than any good.

This will come after the release of SotC, Okami (in my mind the new zelda is just a combination of them really) and just a shit-ton of good games coming in 2006 for next gen systems and the PS2.

On the Wind Waker topic, I went back to the game after a long break where I just didnt want to continue with tiresome back tracking. I boot up, and of course can't remember what I was doing months previous. Ask the boat for a clue but it just says "Hurry up!". I find the omission of any sort of 'Current Mission Details' a pretty unforgiveable sin in a modern day large world rpg. Loved the style though, and wish it had been applied to a NEW franchise so there would have been a chance of seeing it again. Nintendo needs to get out of the cycle of just applying new ideas to old franchises, and actually try to be completely creative again.

Actually, I was just in Best Buy, and they've just recently added preorder cards for Zelda:TP and it said "In stores 4.15.06"

I haven't suscribed to Nintendo Power in years, but at the back of the issues don't they give general release dates of games any more? Like the quater or month games are going to be released?

Right now I'm thinking summer but I really hope it's out before E3.
 
It's hard to say when the game will come out, but I'm almost 100 percent positive it won't come out in April. Actually, GameStop moved the release date out to an ambiguous "June 2006" date, so there goes your April 4th theories (which was the previous date showing in their computers). If I had to guess, the earliest we'll see Zelda in the U.S. would be Summer (June to August), with a slight possibility of it coming in October right before the Revolution hits. Only Nintendo knows for sure, and for all we know they may not have a solid date yet (still in develoment after all), because if they did we'd probably know by now.

Let's hope the game rocks. It played great at E3.
