Don't count on it, Nintendo loves releasing their big guns during the second or third week of November.

YES BUT BRETT F SAYS:

YEH 1 SMALL DRAWBACK
for those wanting a full on gta like on PS2 or XBOX , the version on PSP is different in means of the size of playing area. The Console versions are constantly recieving data from the DVD to provide the level and its clarity but That would drain the PSP's battery like a two foot pool, (really quick) so i think GTA On PSP is a level based game, but dont hold me to it. Little bout the characters and the gameplay is known but it is in liberty city. WTF it'll be good just like every rockstar game. (pretty much minus the first midnight club and the first getaway) - (my opinion is that itll be fun) i still take into consideration it is on a handheld . But im certain that itll be a hoot.
What ever should we do? It says not to hold him to that but I dunno, he seems like a real industry insider.

EDIT: Was a thread really needed for this? This is just a placeholder date in order to start taking in pre-orders for the game.

Actually, I think it might be good to get Zelda out in October versus the usual Thanksgiving release... gives it a little extra time to build up some good word of mouth and media exposure before Microsoft's Xenon blitz. They could save Pokemon XD for Thanksgiving then to clean up. :)

November 24th is going to be the release date of Zelda, because I think that was the day when OoT came out in NA.

I'm pretty sure Majora's Mask was released on October 23rd to counter the hype surrounding the PS2 launch, so it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo used a similar tactic.

I think since this tactic pretty much failed disasterously it wouldn't help indicate anything about the future release dates of Zelda titles :lol

I think they will release it the same time they released Mario Kart DD because that worked really well. I think they also did the same for the two Metroid Prime games.

Well the last MP game bombed. It was a disaster launching after Halo 2 and GTASA. Hopefully they lauch BEFORE the other big games which will be XBOX2 unless E3 contains some major bombs.

I think a good schedule for Nintendo would be...

August
-Advance Wars: Under Fire

September
-Kirby Adventure
-Super Mario DDR (w/pad)

October
-Odama
-The Legend of Zelda

November
-Donkey Konga 3
-Pokémon XD

December
-Fire Emblem
-Mario Baseball

...maybe throw in a budget release like Puzzle Collection or Kururin Squash somewhere if it fits. Giftpia or Home Land would be nice too, but Nintendo's already got 3 RPG-ish games on tap so that might be a bit redundant. I still hope someone picks up Home Land though. :(

MS wants to release Halo 3 on PS3's launch day (according to rumor), how about Nintendo releases Zelda on Xenon's launch day? Might be interesting to see what everyone does.

Majora's Mask launched against the PS2 here in the States, IIRC. Should MS pursue a holiday 05 Xbox 2 launch, I get the suspicion that Nintendo will attempt to coincide that launch with the domestic release of Zelda.

Here's hoping for a near simultaneous Jp and US launch of Zelda, ala OoT.

Both Xenon and Zelda are going to be helped by massive preorders, but why would you risk lower walk-in sales by launching simultaneously. Zelda did not sell 10 million copies like Halo 2 and will probably not break Halo 2's records.

I think they should just focus on having a really good Limited Edition or pre-order bonus.

This is what I think and hope too.

Zelda's not gonna slow down Xbox2 sales so what would be the point? and besides the Xbox2 will probably be sold at midnight anyway

Er, correct me if I'm wrong but Halo 2 didn't sell 10 million copies either. In fact no Xbox or GC game has this gen, only PS2 & GBA.

Anniversary of US Gamecube launch or anniversary of LoZ:OoT launch.
yeah late November is Nintendo's favorite time because it's close to Thanksgiving and December and whatever other titles they have some room in the months before...

I think they have used that "date" of late November for Diddy Kong Racing, Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong 64 during the 97-98-99 Holiday seasons...

I think they went with an earlier date for Majora's Mask so they could go up against the PS2.

Recently they've used more "mid-november" release dates for stuff like Metroid Prime, Metoid Prime 2, and Double Dash, which kind of gave them an extra week of sales during the 02-03-04 Holiday seasons...

following tradition and habit might have them launch Maturelda against XBox 2, partly because it will garner more attention for the title as news stories can set up a "match" or just the fact that there is an opportunity to mention the Zelda title in XBox 2 articles:

http://terror.snm-hgkz.ch/mirrors/www.thegia.com/mirror/news/0007/n18b.html

http://edition.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/10/25/competitors.ps2/

the major problem for Majora's Mask was the necessity of the expansion pack, that and maybe that it was too weird for a Zelda title for mainstream fans...

Looks like Nintendo is going standard and mainstream for the new Maturelda, so it shouldn't have either of the problems Majora's Mask faced, since it's likely there are more GCN's out there than expansion pack-enabled N64's relative to the time period...

I believe noone has brought up this, but there was new artwork at GDC. Link definitley looks good in this game. They nailed him. Weird that they use lttp zelda logo.

The point is to offer an alternative to those who can't find or afford an Xbox 2 but are still in the mood for something major and new. And to make any news articles about Xbox 2 lines also include a piece about the line for Zelda. Or to cause GameCube owners contemplating an Xbox 2 to consider that they might be too busy with Zelda to bother with an Xbox 2 right away.

I want a high res file of this new artwork! That would make a kick ass wallpaper.

I didn't like the in-game Link. E3 2000 model was muy better (not technically, just artistically).
I disagree. This Link has much more personality. He's also much more stylized than the Space World Link. Both are good, but I just prefer this new one.

They always release a big game on November 1x or 2x because something of theirs was released first then (Can't remember what. Maybe it was the US-wide release of the NES).

Can someone tell me if the music in the recent trailer is an original piece by Nintendo or is it some other well-known orchestral piece not belonging to Nintendo?

When did Link ever have a personality :lol

Till Nintendo say otherwise or someone trods along with details of it's whereabouts, I am sticking with the original piece of music statement. Whether or not Kondo can pump out something like that, who knows. Then again, the Link to the Past dungeon/Hyrule castle theme kicks all sorts of arse when done by an orchestra.

I don't recall the N64 release dates, but...

November 18th, 2001 - U.S. Gamecube Launch
November 18th, 2002 - Metroid Prime
November 18th, 2003 - Mario Kart Double Dash!!
November 18th, 2004 - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
November 18th, 2005 - Legend of Zelda

Actually, for some reason, I think that MP2:E might've released on the 15th strangely. Not positive.

When is the new Nintendo suppose to launch? 2005? if so then an Oct release wouldn't be a bad idea for Zelda...

Actually I don't care. Its better for me. Some dofus is going to buy 8 copies of Zelda and be stuck with 6 of them because ebay is going to be saturated with Xenons and Zeldas.
