What a timing!

I'm playing Disco Elysium right now (such a masterpiece, btw)

Literally the entire team of creators of Disco are gone. Most notably, the novelist writer. Considering that game was basically an interactive book, I'm really...curious...how this'll turn out.
Clearly not all, cause you can see a lot of the same kind of art style and animations in the video, probably made by the same people.

And the first game had 30 writters in their staff. I doubt they've all left.

I would take a lot of what happened with ZA/UM with a grain of salt, cause there were a lot of personal opinions and not many facts imo.

Anyway, game looks amazing so far in terms of aesthetics

So, can someone catch me up on the drama that's being referenced by some folks in this thread? I tried to look it up to not bother anyone, but I got muddied, unclear answers at best, very both nebulous. Does anyone know what truly happened or why? I hate hearing about great teams breaking up, as we need far, far more creative teams like the one responsible for Disco Elysium, and I can't help but find it a bit sad if internal strife broke them up.

It's some kind of financial dispute between publisher and three key devs, that's what I've mostly picked up, but someone here gimme the skinny if ya got a minute. Thanks fellas.

I don't really have a horse in this race and don't care about their drama. I just compared credits and the main guys are both gone. I have nothing against this game and actually think it looks cool but I'm only cautiously curious.

I loved Disco Elysium. But it's hard to get an idea of how much of ZA/UM is still that ZA/UM. The leaked video for that Locust City game they were working on with Cuno as a main character seemed like it had some interesting ideas so hopefully that's a good sign for what they can still produce.

Cuno would've been amazing to play as. One of the funniest gaming characters.

YouTube video about studio za/um and what happened. There might be better ones and I don't endorse this channel, but here you go, I found it informative

Will be there for Zero Parades even though I think it will be a very different experience to Disco Elysium. Recreating that would be difficult even if they still had Kurvitz and Rostov.

Thanks bro, I appreciate that, gonna go ahead and dig into it.

No problem. Someone posted that video on here when I was finished with the game and had the urge to look into what the fuck happened with that studio.

The whole story is pretty sad which is a shame because Disco Elysium is a very unique game with dense atmosphere and unrivaled writing (imho for that kind of game). But I'm sure za/um and Kurvitz'/Rostovs new studio Red Info ltd. will put out interesting and unique games 'on their own'.

Yeh it was going to be him and Cunoesse and you could switch between the two. If you poke around online you might be able to find the video that got leaked which showed them demoing it. Although I know that copies of it were getting pulled down. If you can't find it then message me and let me know.

One of the reasons why DE is so good, because its main creatives (just watch any interview with Robert Kurvitz - dude's smug intellectual superiority is off the charts) were so pretentious. But I say that as a compliment, because that way they created a very singular, unique vision that doesn't try to chase trends and so on. If the new team can maintain the same attitude, we might get something interesting out of it.

It's a looong video, but very well produced. Listening to it right now while working

Reddit's opinion about the topic is of course, very left oriented. They want to pirate the game to send a "fuck you" message to ZA/UM.

I'll finish the video before forming an opinion abou it.

political differences and egos running wild like you can see in any political/activists group
Im not saying that judgmentally, it is just often the case with those type of people.
Lead writer got fired and the guys who stayed started rewriting history, minimizing the work of the most important guy during creation of the first game, which is "surprisingly" also often the case with that type of people :messenger_grinning_sweat:
This new politburo is made of the guys that make the new game.

All this is from memory so i might be talking out of my ass.. Also the lead writer from the first as genius as he was, was a huge douche with an overinflated ego (which is often the case with those type of... wait am i hallucinating or are we seeing a pattern ?)

I'm really hyped for this, I believe there is still a lot of talent left at ZA/UM after all the departures.

DE is one of the best games ever created so this won't be as good but it can still be pretty good.

I refuse to believe all the talent was just the folks who left. I mean just looking at this trailer easily fooled me.

It made me start up disco Elysium again last night but on ps5 this time. I bought it twice , on PC, and left the ps5 version for when I want to dive in again.

The game is master craft lightning in a bottle. I wouldn't expect a new game from this studio to be as good or better even if no employees left.

That said I'll take anything as close as I can get but nothing since it came out has gotten even close.

Great, maybe we will finally get a game and not an interactive novel with Politics 101.
I don't expect any combat. Maybe more puzzles or scene solving stuff?

I remember initially thinking Disco needed combat wtf are they smoking. Then I played it from start to finish and was obsessed. I generally skip dialogue and not a single line was lost on me here.

The best way to think of this is as a little more interactive visual novel. I've yet to get into any other visual novel game, and I've tried many.

This isn't for everyone, but if it is your jam, this game will sink its teeth into you.

Nope, Disco Elysium is a RPG its not a Visual Novel.
Its just that its a shallow RPG

The problem with the game was that unlike Planescape Torment that had incredible characters the DE ones were…pathetic. The MC was an alcoholic crazy cop. I don't take pleasure in playing a loser.
