The $200 pricetag (should be able to snag it for $150 or so online) will prevent any more anime purchases this year, oh well. I could always make this my sole Xmas present from my parents this year, I wouldn't mind.

So how good is Zeta compared to Gundam SEED?

SEED is the only gundam series I've seen so I don't know about getting this one. I hear a lot of the Gundams borrow heavily from each other too. Please give me a reason not to spend 200 dollars on that set. ;__;

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is the sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), it's from 1986 and is considered to the be cornerstone of the entire Gundam franchise. If you have no interest in older animation or the Universal Century storyline (which SEED is not a part of), don't bother.

When compared to Seed - it lacks the polished new cg look. Of course, its an anime from mid 80s, so don't expect too much of polished artwork - but storyline is quite solid, and a definitely my favorite gundam series ever. (And no GF swapping either, but lots of womanizing by protagonist, if I should say.)

You might want to pass on this one, though - and just think of getting the zeta re-make 3 part movie version in the future. I think the first part is coming onto theaters in early 2005 in Japan and so on and on. TV series takes too long to watch them all to be honest - and sometimes movie version makes the pace more bearable. (Especially for the first gundam trillogy, although I have both TV collection and trillogy box collection) Also, they are employing all the new techniques for this re-make, so the picture quality should be quite good. I'm not sure how much they would tamper with the storyline - but if they stay true to the UC history, it should be qutie good, I'd say..

After ignoring it all last school year, my Perfect Grade Zeta Gundam should be completed before the end of the month. I totally scored, it cost me $100 brand new from Planet Anime last summer during a clearance sale.

That's a good deal! I also have PG Zeta, which is about 10% assembled anyway - and I also got pretty good deal. 1st press version, and got it for 120 bucks. The store was closing down, and it was a open case with outer box (the big box) missing, but all the parts were there, so I was pretty happy to snatch that one up. :) It's just I don't have much time these days, that's a shame...

Mine has the big box/carrying case contraption that it comes with. The mech itself is finished, I'm currently working on the second wing, which frustrated me so much last summer that I just put it aside last September. I'd like to finish it up and put in my glass display case one of these days.

well not really...yet
yeah I saw this yesterday, pretty much a must buy, as if I needed another more purchases like this for this year, but this is a good idea to release the entire series in one fell swoop instead of releasing it by volumes.

Cant wait :)

I had dinner with my parents last night, I told them about it, and this morning when I got to work there was a order confirmation email in my inbox with the message "Merry Christmas" from my Mom and Dad.

They rock so much.

I basically told them that this is I all want for Christmas from them. If this is the only present I get from them, I'm cool with that.

Great job on the PG Zeta. I have it standing on my bookshelf across the room. Zeta's one of my favorites.

The Mk II just looks excellent. The Mk II and the GP01 are the only PGs I don't own, and I regret not buying them when I could have gotten them at very low prices from a local Hobby Shop...

I just checked hlj.com, did a quick search and discovered that there's a MG Wing Zero Custom comin' out this year, and a Perfect Grade Strike Gundam. :O Anything else I'm missing here? I've been out of the Gunpla scene for a while now.

[EDIT] - ... Wait, wait. That's a HG Zeta? Damn, it looks great.

I also just ordered. :) Thanks for the coupon and good price link! ;) Woo Hoo!

And for Sai:

Thanks for your compliments. :)
That HGUC Zeta is actually a recent release. (Came out late last year, I think).
It's quite different from old HG - and I personally find it has the best proportion,
most faithful reproduction of TV Zeta. I highly recommend to any Zeta fans. :)

That MG MK2 is actually part of Titans ver of Super-gundam, and G-defensor is just finished few days ago. I tweaked around the proportion of MK2 rather extensively to achieve more modernized look, and I am rather satisfied with the result. Although it looks rather slim for MK2, but I still need to work on my PG MK2, which has pretty bulky, musculine proportion, so I decided to go with more "balanced" look for MG. I have PG Zeta (still working on it) and PG MK2, 1:144 Dendrobium and MG EX-S... all of them require a lot of time and work, yet I haven't found any time to work on them for past year or so. :(

As for the new gunpla, if you are a Zeta fan, HGUC Psycho-Gundam is out, as well as MG Hi-Zack. With Theatrical release next year, I'm pretty sure that slew of new Zeta product will roll out, although I'm quite a bit let down with new PG being Strike. Not that I don't like Strike/Seed - but it had 1:60 release quite some time ago, as well as recent MG release. It just feels like Bandai is determined to milk the series before the whole Seed craze is over.

What's with this trend of bumping old threads? I got faked into thinking it was a Catherine Zeta Jones thread (again)

Well, here's the finished ver of Titans MKII with G-defensor.

Anyhow... I kinda don't like the whole box. Too generic. Hope the actual DVD box itself looks good.

And... how can one refuse to like a guy who's name is "Quattro Vagina" (the guy on the box), for god's sake? ;)
He's like male version of Pussy Galore. (I know, I know, he's name is spelled bageena or something like that.)

First off, thanks for positing something relevent. Second, sweet MK-II.

The huge box is for holding all the pencil sharpeners, encyclopedia and poster. The actual box that houses the DVDs is the smaller box seen on the right side adorned with brand new artwork of the Zeta Gundam.

Oooooh Zeta Set. Easily the best Gundam series in terms of quality although not my favorite. 120 is tempting for it grrrr.

Thanks, distantmantra for your kind words. :)

I'm actually very excited to see the 3pt renewal version next year. I hear almost half of the scenes are all re-drawn, and the story progression should be a lot faster than TV series. I'm actually one of those who really liked 3pt original gundam trilogy more so than TV series - although TV series had merit of its own (funky opening song), but the compact 3movie version with added explanation regarding whole "newtype" theme was much better than somewhat vague ones in original TV series.

Some of the shots I've seen on the movie series of Zeta looked really good too. Since tv series are being released in US, I'm pretty sure the movie version will make to this side of the pacific in few years. :)

Did you read the impressions of the first Zeta movie over at http://aeug.blogspot.com ? It sounds like the transition from old to new animation (the new mecha stuff is supposed to be fantastic) isn't the best. Not really sure what I think of Gackt singing the OP and ED either.

Thanks for the link. it was a good read. I hope that since the movie has some time to go before its final release, I hope for those issue to be fixed up. I'm not too sure how much it will really affect me because I didn't find original trilogy's stuff not too distracting - but then again, the turn-around time fore the original trilogy wasn't nearly 20 yrs. ;)
