This was one of the animes released last year, around the same time as Yakitake and Beck...
and there's been virtually no mention of it.
But it's actually really pretty good.
The premise is a modern Aegis Cruiser from the Japanese SDF in 2004 goes on its maiden training voyage only to stumble into an aurora that uncovers the fleet of the Yamato Battleship in 1942, a few days before the battle of midway.
They figure out that they've actually travelled into the past somehow, and the crew now have to figure out how to get back home without altering the course of history. Of course, it's easier said than done, especially when your ship is 60 years from the future, containing outlandish technology that would drastically alter the path of history if it fell into anyone's hands from that era... but people can't be simply blasted away lest history be altered...
I'm about 5 episodes in, and while the first episode starts off slowly, like a good movie it builds up steam and intrigue. It's a pretty intresting show, makes you think, in a good way. Animation is also pretty decent, although the appearance of the characters use the ugly type, akin to Initial D style... except with serious guys in military uniforms. Superficial similarities, with the exception of quality is where the similarities between a show like initial D and zipang end though.
