Don't worry guys, I changed his design to be more like Sonic's original design:
No nose or feet? Running on stumps and no ability to locate chili dogs.
...what? You're blaming Uncharted of all things for the scarf? Their not even trying to appeal to that audience at all.
Do you think Uncharted 3 is the only game with a scarf? Do you think the new Zeld game is copying Uncharted too?

I love how Tails and Amy look. It's probably the first time I've liked Amy since her design in Sonic CD.
I couldn't get into her newer, bowl-cut hair style. It was just weird.

The new designs aren't replacing the current ones, they'll going to coexist, so I have no problem with the Boom designs.

Knuckles is CLEARLY on PEDs and should be banned from videogames.

Classic Sonic from Generations is clearly the best post-2D era Sonic. They managed to bring the design into 3D retaining all of that classic cartoon charm that makes him look like a mascot while also retaining his "tude" without it looking like a parody of himself.
Knuckles is CLEARLY on PEDs and should be banned from videogames.

Not as good as the originals, but good enough. The new designs are pretty much fanfiction level.
I have to agree. I spent a lot of time complaining about how he looks goofy then, but this Sonic Boom look is awful.
Can we please get the reimagined Sonic look that someone around here created, or that the crew who was goign to make those PC HD versions of Sonic 2 and such had created. Looked like an improved version of the original design. Was fantastic. Anyone have it handy?

As many have already said, Classic Generations Sonic is easily the best version of the character we've seen since the Megadrive/Genesis days. That isn't some nostaliga bull shit, its genuinely a good character design.
His 'Modern' designs for the last couple of generations (Sonic and the Secret Rings onwards) have actually been okay and have tried to cool down on the whole "Hip and cool" vibe they were pushing for in the Dreamcast era.
I've never been put off by a redesign before and I even liked 'Celda' Link back in the day...

I think these new designs are a fresh take on the franchise and I'm not overly offended by them.
Sonic looks better than how he was presented in the Sonic Adventure games and Tails simply looks more suitable overall. Amy looks the same to me *shrugs*.

Sonic Team's character design fell off with Sonic Adventure. We have Sonic go from a more cartoony version of a genuine hedgehog:

The transition was terrible. I'm sure most people would have been okay with him remaining somewhat "cute". Instead the character design shifted into this awkward teenage Sonic with a more exaggerate personality. "THIS Sonic is mature. Look at his girlfriend!" Sure a certain demographic bought into it but was the change worth it? Once you've grown into adulthood the blind interest in the "alpha male" should stop. You don't watch a Bruce Willis film and still think "damn, this guy is cool" anymore do you? SEGA alienates adults and young children alike with such poor presentation.

The characters seem a lot better presented here. The dialogue exchange isn't so goofy you can't stand it and the Sonic/Robotnik exchange felt sincere for the first time since the original cartoon. Knuckles actually looks like a tough guy and you can just look at Tails once and understand that he's the "smart one". Amy still look...eh.
Your logic is flawed therefore your argument is invalid. You call the Sonic Adventure rendition of the characters a "lanky, anthropomorphic mess" yet these new renditions are the same minus Knuckles's size and the bandages. As for the dialogue, its obvious you haven't played a Sonic game in over 4 years. The characters have been sounding that way since Sonic Unleashed.

They bulk up knuckles but don't change the size of his head. I'm okay with giving him some bulk to emphasize him being a "bruiser" but cmon.

I don't find the new designs to be lanky in appearance. They seem particularly lanky because the in-game footage is bad, probably because the game is still early in development.

While the Knuckles design is still a head scratcher for me, I see where they wanted to go. Knuckles has always been this "Strong man" of the Sonic group, but has been roughly the same size as Sonic or even Tails. Compare that to something like the Mario franchise (Or better yet Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games) you see guys like Wario and Bowser as strong guys and the size difference is clear. Wario is physically stronger than Mario and the design reflects on that. Knuckles vs Sonic? Not as much. I like the IDEA of Knuckles redesign, but the end result leaves much to be desired.

Without a shadow of a doubt. I thought they were about to go back to this design as well, after finally working out a 3D look for it.
The bandages to me give off a tribal feel, I have no problem with them. Then again, my name is Sails so my opinion is invalid.

Nowadays, Classic Sonic is "cute". It's the antithesis of the character's purpose.
Sonic evolved to remain "cool" in 99 the same as he was "cool" in 91, and in 2014, bandages and Bangarang are apparently cool.
Either Sonic could have stayed the same, and in doing so lose a part of his character, or perhaps dies out like all the other mascots besides Mario, instead of grabbing the attention of a new generation of children who are still fervently attached to the character.

I miss the simplicity of the original designs, the adventure-era designs were bad and these new ones are barely a step up. I mean seriously, what's up with the bandages?

Character design, yes.
Gameplay, nope. It looks like spectacle over meaty gameplay. Which has been Sonic's schtick since the 16-bit era.

I really like this artist's take on a lot of the Sonic cast, even if they are pretty impractical to be used in the games. It'd be interesting to see a Sonic game in the Ubi-art engine with these designs though. I mean, it'll never happen, but it'd be neat.
