Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Pokémon is the hardest series to choose characters from because of the amount and the relevancy in the future. I don't think characters like Blaziken or Greninja will make much sense in the next Smash Bros. I think this way about Jigglypuff too, but she's been in since the very beginning, so what are you gonna do?

But if I had to choose? Probably Deoxys.

But since he's Psychic just like Mewtwo, Genesect is cool too.

Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem are.

sorry, it just bugs me when people say this as if they completely forget about the mascot legendaries
Well, I meant the promotional mascot, but there isn't really a term for that. The starters and legendaries will always be mascots by default, but I think it's the popular "regular" Pokémon that sets the generations apart. There's typically a Pokémon that's advertised and merchandized alongside the starters and legendaries -- Gold/Silver had Pichu, Ruby/Sapphire had Plusle and Minun, Diamond/Pearl had Lucario, and Black/White had Zoroark. Those Pokémon also tend to be the ones included as playable characters in Smash Bros. to represent a particular generation.

What is 6th generation? Sylveon?

Speaking of Deoxys, he could have something similar to Pokemon trainer where B+Down allows him to shift forms, could allow for good strategy against certain opponents (Speed Deoxys strong against Fox, but Fox strong against defense Deoxys, etc)

Mewtwo and Genesect have a lot in common (background wise), but I think the latter would make an amazing fighter. Like I said, slightly heavy but quick projectile user.

I really don't think there is one. People gravitate towards Sylveon because it represents the new Fairy type, but I think they're looking for a Lucario or Zoroark where there isn't one. X/Y is a change of pace from the previous generations.

Between Mewtwo's prominence, the Kanto starters, the legendary birds, and a ton of other references, X/Y seems more like a throwback to the past than anything else. This time around, Mega Evolutions take precedence over any one new Pokémon. So I think if Sakurai decides to "represent" X/Y, it's going to be through a Mega Evolution.

And that's kind of a bummer, cause the Mega-Evos can basically be implemented as Final Smashes. I would personally prefer a new character to a focus on Mega Evolving an old one.

Having played through Pokémon X, I was surprised by how prominent Lucario was. An entire portion of the story revolved around it; it’s canonically the first Pokémon to Mega Evolve, and it has a giant shrine built in its honor. I think if any one Pokémon was to receive a Mega Evolution Final Smash, it should be Lucario. It would also be a nice way of bridging gens 4 (Lucario itself) and 6 (Mega Evolution) together, making Lucario a representative of the newer Pokémon games in general.

I’d much rather have the “classic” Mewtwo as depicted in Melee. Giving it a Mega Evolution might also mean giving it that awful feminine voice, which I’d like to avoid.

But Wolf's entire base moveset is 100% different. Significantly more so than the moveset between Fox and Falco (in Brawl, let alone Melee). Luigi and Mario share more A-moves than Wolf and Fox/Falco do. And even Wolf's specials are more different from Fox/Falco than Luigi's specials are from Mario's.

I'll admit I'm over emphasizing B move similarities relative to overall moveset similarities.

Wolf's A moves are definitely all different enough such that if they were on a different character I wouldn't make the "this is like Fox" association. I still don't see Wolf as a 'must include' character from a character relevance standpoint, but that's just personal preference.

With Lucario/Mewtwo I always assumed Lucario was Mewtwo's replacement and have always considered them similar, but I think this was just a poor connection on my part.

This is one of the biggest things I've been concerned about. I haven't picked up a wii u pro controller yet but will be getting 2 or 3 for smash because I don't want to wear out my wind waker gamepad. I was wondering if they felt like they would be durable and reliably built with Nintendium or if they felt a little cheaper than your typical Nintendo controller?

IMO, the Wii U Pro Controller's build is nice, light, and it's an overall more durable and more comfortable Classic Controller Pro.

The GameCube Controller just stuck out because no matter what you did with it that controller, bar the analog/control stick and buttons, was fucking indestructible.

The Wii U Pro Controller's great in every aspect, same with the Wii U Gamepad. The only problem I see is that the body just needs to be stronger and reinforced like the GC controller. The Wii U Gamepad feels great and I love the shoulder buttons, but it just needs a better 3DS XL type battery.

If Nintendo gives the Wii, Pro Controller support, or if people try using it to play Melee/Project M over Dolphin then I'm sure the Wii U Pro Controller will outclass the GC controller for smash.

I find the buttons for the Wii U Pro Controller comfortable and responsive. If anything I'd compare them to Sanwa arcade stick buttons to how good they are. The Analog/Control sticks are pretty comfy too but the $49.99 price tag is a bit steep tbh.

Edit: I wonder what Smash 4's computer is gonna be like. Hopefully the AI is good. Project M's CPUs are like TAS level stupid at how fast it inputs moves.

PM's Comp's aren't hard per say but compared to Vanilla the CPUs are as close as it gets to humans. I swore they wavedashed and the speed they did their aerials are pretty fast.

I wouldn't say the buttons are Sanwa-like, since Sanwa buttons have a certain crisp-ness to them, & the Pro Controller buttons are a perfect mix of squishy & clicky (more so for the D-Pad).

I already own a black one, but if they can sell the Pro Controller wired, I'd get another one for tournament use.......WE SHOULD START A MOVEMENT TO GET NINTENDO TO SELL A WIRED PRO CONTROLLER!

IMO, the buttons have a resistance similar to Sanwa buttons and I can push them pretty fast compared to Sony or Microsoft controllers. But as a whole this Nintendo Controller, save the body quality, is up to Sanwa/Nintendo standards.

I love Hori buttons but If we compared Nintendo between Hori to Sanwa, I'd say they're more Sanwa.

I have a black one as well and I love it. I wish I had white as I prefer having white electronics but I hate hate hate how dirty the Analogs get when you use them. If I could replace the analogs on the white controller for gray, I'd do so in a heartbeat.

I don't think Nintendo will support USB peripherals as they'd need to do a whole software update to take advantage of it. If they were to make a wired controller, they'd have to provide a 3m cable like the white gamecube controller since most people, like me, play about 7-8 feet or more from the TV.

If the Pro Controller's Mini USB port sends data rather than just charge, then I guess you already have your answer there. I doubt that the Pro Controller is recognizable via USB since it uses Bluetooth to communicate with the Wii U and computers.

Why Victini? What is the appeal of it and why would it be a better choice than Zoroak (who could have some wonderful mechanics with its Illusion ability)?
Because:
  1. Zoroark has a similar form (and role) to Lucario.
  2. I think the next Pokemon character introduced should be cute mascot-sized.
  3. I personally dislike Zoroark, a lot :p
It's just my opinion in the end. I don't even expect Victini to be that interesting mechanics wise, multi-forms Deoxys would probably be more fun.

Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Manaphy being rare Poké Ball summons has pretty much cemented Victini's fate. It's the fifth generation equivalent of those legendaries.
I kinda feel Victini is a bit different, he is less of a floating fairy and more of "a legendary who looks like a starter."

I ran a test to find out the specifics in that regard, and the Mini USB port is only for charging, & doesn't transform the controller into a wired one similar to the PS4 & XB1 controllers.

In terms of the resistance the buttons give, you do have a point on the Sanwa comparison.

I hope Nintendo gives us a day one bundle that includes Smash Bros for Wii U, Smash Bros for 3DS, and a thing that you plug into the Wii U that lets you plug in and play with Gamecube controllers. Of course, Nintendo will want to promote Pro Controller sales, so that's unlikely, but a 3DS+Wii U special edition could be pretty cool.

- They are both bipedal dog-like 'mon and that is where the similarities end (as far as appearance are concerned).
- Mew, Celebi and the others were never playable characters, so I find hard to believe Victini will, especially when it isn't nearly as memorable as Mew or Celebi.
- ...okay

I can see Genesect, Meloetta or even Keldeo as the Pokémon newcomer, but hardly Victini.

Although, if for some reason Victini happens to be the Pokémon newcomer, it will be okay to me. It is not like I hate the Pokémon or anything.

By the way, on the unlikely scenario of Genesect being revealed for Smash, I'd like to claim its avatar okay. (If anyone haven't already lol)

Where is the list with the avatar claims? >_<

Today I had an unexspected visit from some family, upstairs some people watched movies but down stairs, me my bro and a couple cousins decided to play some video game. After an hour or so I remembered I had a wii and smash, I quickly ran upstairs and got the wii. After 20 minutes figuring out how to hook the cables to the back of this new HDTV i got, we began playing smash bros. It wasn't projected m but we played a modded to hell smash bros, and the hype that ensued made remember how much I appreciate smash bros.

The most hype moment was the end , they had to leave it was the last match , wolf vs captain falcon. Me vs a cousin of mine, 1 stock left, I have pretty high damage but he is way worse. I think I got it in the bag my wolf got this, then a knee out of NO WHERE. And I fly 300 mph across the screen and die. The most hype moment of the night, no way he should have come back from that but he did. And now when he returns We have to have the salty run back,

Smash bros took a mildly exciting day of GTA5 to a whole new level of hype where vendetta's are involved.

We there was even more hype moment with Mario and Snake, but I don't even know if i can describe it with any justice.

Smash hype is real .

I cannot wait for new smash.

Hawlucha for Smash. I think a character with his playstyle would be cool and would serve as a good rep of six generation.

Want to see Klefki, Diggersby, Pangoro and Florges Pokeballs, too.

I'm hoping for a bundle, too - I mean, I figure I'll end up picking up both Day 1, so I'm hoping I get some love for that from Nintendo. Even if it's like "buy both and get $10 store credit" or something simple like that.

We need more Mecha characters that;s for sure.

Shit, the Wii U needs more mecha games. Every console needs mecha games.

X is a perfect candidate and they could tease the new game and help advertise it before X comes out.

I'd rather have the protagonist/mech from X than a Xenoblade rep tbh.

Platinum Robo, Custom Robo, Great Sacred Treasure, X, Chosoju Mecha MG, I want to play some fucking giant robot that's as iconic as Gundam.

It doesn't fit the "giant robot" itch, but what about Chibi Robo? I wouldn't be super surprised if he was in smash at least as a trophy.

Pokemans aside, the StreetPass Mii Plaza games are a goldmine for modern Smash references. Maybe one stage that combines different elements of the games (kind like how the Wuhu Island stage seems to incorporate Pilotwings, Wii Sports Resort, etc.)? They haven't quite reached playable fighter status yet, but cameos from Gold Bone, Iris, Arzodius, Wentworth and such would be...neat.

With Lucario/Mewtwo I always assumed Lucario was Mewtwo's replacement and have always considered them similar, but I think this was just a poor connection on my part.

Both were planned, Mewtwo was cut in the very last minute, and that was very likely because of the inclusion of Sonic. If anybody replaced Mewtwo in Brawl, it was the blue blur.

I wonder, since SEGA acquired ATLUS. Do you think we could possibly get a Shin Megami tensei rep? There is the Fire emblem cross over coming God knows when. SEGA could help pull the strings for a ATLUS rep. Question is...who would it be?

I would guess Flint (SMT IV protagonist) or Jack Frost (ATLUS' mascot). Personally, I'd like to see the protagonist of the first SMT game, which was released for the Super Famicon:

Considering there's that unspoken rule of "only one per company" regarding third parties, Sonic probably disqualifies any Atlus rep from appearing.

Probably right, and if we ever did get a second SEGA rep it would be another Sonic Character
Tails and you will all like it!

Sounds like the thing they want is Melee with 3 more characters.

Yeah, just because they only mentioned 3 characters in that video means they only want 3 characters period.

Will that stop other people doing it?

A game that played like Melee with all those unintentional mechanics would be a mess online with the divide in the playerbase.

This is what they make separate playlists for.
