PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

Welp.

I just booted up my PS4 and grabbed Outlast. Then I booted up my PS3 to check out Metro and Brothers. Outlast and Metro went through just fine and I'm downloading those now.

I went through the motions and "purchased" Brothers. I checked my email and they charged me $14.99 for it.

What the hell?

Edit: Here's purchasing Metro

And here's Brothers

Brothers was a free game last month, not this month my friend. Sorry.

Also, was playing in a game of BattleField found my self in Mr.terrigods game. You got me like 3 times in that stupid vehicle and when I finally blew it up with c4 you got out just in time. Curses!

Persona 4 Golden has officially spoiled me. I knew I should have played P3P first.

You should give FES a try. I tried Portable after playing P4G and the visual novel style was too much of a turn off for me, but I later tried FES and enjoyed it much more.

Concerning preorders for PSN titles(inFAMOUS specifically), do they pull the money when you preorder, or once the game is available? Just curious so I know when to look for it on my banking statement.

You put the money into your PSN Wallet . And you buy the pre-order with your PSN Wallet money. It's drawn immediately from your existing funds in the PSN Wallet. If you're looking for a bank statement, it's a typical PLAYSTATION NETWORK charge.

Brothers is still up for free on NA ps+
Maybe try contacting sony support?
Should get refund assuming your a ps+ member

Ok cool, thanks for the info. Just wanted to be correct on how it went. Can not wait to play that game.

Can you use a savings account for that?

it was orignally for flandy but w/e

FeMC! Fighting in tartarus by night
Going to school with Stupei when the day has light
FeMC! You sure do have a cult following around here
I just want to let you are indeed listed in the wonderful tier
FeMC! You may not be canon, but I will say this
You make people such as coolasj19 filled with bliss

Thanks!

That makes me want to play with FeMC though.

Speaking of Bend, just started a Hard play through of GA. I forgot how much fun this game is, the gimmicks are just a little annoying.

Sweeping the charcoal was cool though. You felt a little more like an archeologist.

That doesn't sound like a small project, and if it still existed I imagine we would have heard of it by now.

I don't know, maybe the already had it last Christmas but are holding back the game for this fall.

I think Infamous is a IP that would work pretty well on a handheld. The short secondary missions and that stuff will be cool, and it's not as cinematic as ND offerings. I think the first didn't even use mocap, right? That's why they changed faces on the second one.

And more open world on Vita is always welcome.

How? Are you on the school trip? Have you fought
Margaret
or something?

In the EU they typically draw the funds a few days before release, right around the time it preloads. Not sure if that's still how it works on PS4. US probably works different.

It's different on EU PSN (legal regulations maybe?) They take the money a couple of days before the release. It's always stated in the description when exactly. You don't need any money on the account when you preorder.

Edit: damn, beaten like a little pig.

Sony has killed their mid-tier. Really big or really small. Mid-tier is for indies and big 3rd party teams doing multiple mid-tier titles (the Japanese)
...yes, and unless Bend's grown significantly lately they aren't large enough for "really big", so I would expect it's more like they're doing multiple smaller titles:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/204545/Sonys_Yoshida_outlines_the_PlayStation_4_software_strategy.php

"I think that's the reason the bigger titles are getting even bigger, because people supported them, and the publishers can afford it, and the level of quality of these games is way beyond these mid-sized games," says Yoshida. "On the other hand, the smaller digital games are amazing, great -- because they try to do something that big teams won't do. Because they are smart, they won't try to compete with Call of Duty."

Trapped between these successful (if scrappy) indies and the mega-studios, mid-sized studios, says Yoshida, are caught in a difficult spot: "if you are making a studio, like a 40- or 50-person studio, it's a really tough age -- whether they try to grow and compete to become triple-A, or if they try to do indie-style small development. It's really a good, critical question for many of the mid-sized studios."

For Sony's part, says Yoshida, "we encourage mid-sized studios to come up with some digital concept titles, new titles. If they can do multiple projects, that's even better."

Anyone having issues with the PS+ auto save upload feature?

It hasn't been working properly for me the past two days. On PS3 at least, the Vita is fine.

So what's up with Trophy syncing on PS3? It won't fully sync, thus letting some of my game requiring trophy setups like AE to not work . . .

Yeah, the Vita is fine. I just tried it myself.

Not so sure about the PS3.

I think PSN is having some server issues with PS3. PS4 and the Vita seems to be unaffected.

I'm prepped to play. Me and Gir (tap) are waiting for you. That and it's a break between the semi and finals of the Olympics Group Skating comp.

I think their mid-tier still exists, the last few Ratchet games, Tearaway and Puppeteer were all budget games.

Well, Insomniac is a big studio which used a mid size team for R&C. Same could go for Pupeteer and Tearaway (though they were probably smaller that Insomniac). Mid-tier IMO is something like Sanzaru, which has like 50-60 employees. And I should agree it's posibly quite hard, even if they're lucky (or talented) enough to get jobs like Sly4, Secret Agent Clank or a Sonic game.

But indies are having it easier at time passes thanks to Unity, other tools and the friendly approach from the 3 main hardware manufacturers. I think by the end of this gen we'll see quite some of them developing games that in the PS2 era would have been sold in retail for 60€/$.

Something on PSN's store doesn't sit well with me...

In the past when I have bought movies I have used the HD+SD option, because together they are usually the same price as the HD only.

I got Justice League War the other day, and used the HD only option (who knows why) when I could have used HD+SD for the same price... now I noticed when I tried to view downloads on my Vita, I couldn't download the movie...

I could download my previous titles but not any of the HD versions, and I didnt have access to the SD version.

Is this like a thing? Also can you not transfer HD video from the PS3 to the vita? Not happy with this...

Do I have to worry about getting the 'right ending' and all that? I prefer not to use guides when I play games if I can help it.

The game will warn when you're near the end, and allow you to save. From there you have to make specific choices to get the different endings, so don't overwrite that save. Other than that you'll have nothing to worry about

Mortimer told us that an inFamous would come to Vita this year, but as time goes on I'm beginning to suspect it's another port. Sony rarely announces a "big" new game, and then launches it in the same year.

I think it's a mistake to launch a Vita inFamous in the same year as a PS4 one. Second Son will command the majority of the mind share quite easily, just like Shadow Fall did to Mercenary.

So 2015 then?

I'm pretty impressed with the Sony customer support so far. I'm currently in a live chat with a rep on a Sunday morning. I waited about 5-10 seconds to talk to someone and they got the ball rolling on figuring out why I got charged for Brothers.

And before I even finished typing this post up they got back to me with a refund.

Wow.

The example gets used quite a bit, but GT6 was both announced and launched last year, so it's not completely without precedent. I'm hoping we do get a Vita Infamous, although if we do, I imagine it'll be at the end of the year, rather than earlier. Hopefully that should help to prevent the sales cannibalism that happened with SF and Mercenary, which launched just months apart.

Ah yes, I'm a little over halfway done according to the save file. This game is surprisingly long for a cinematic game.

It's a shame that I can't play it because my PS3 is broken.

Oh well, I hope by the time I have money to shell out for repairs It's already available in PS+.

I'm having an absolute blast with Castlevania SotN, are there other games like this that I can play on Vita? Also do y'all have any favorite psone classics? Thanks!

Well, this case is different. I think Infamous Vita has a bigger chance to succeed if Second Son suceeds on both quality and sales. Releasing a spin-off like 6-8 months after that will be a good way to carry on with the hype. Killzone Mercenaries definitely was damaged by releasing two months earlier than a main line entry that, furthermore, received lukewarm reception.

And Golden Abyss was probably damaged by it launching too soon. I find surprising how Sony decided to release 3 and GA with a three months differences (same month in Japan). I think a May release with multiplayer will have benefited the game a lot, but that's other story.

Tearaway sold bad because our world has objetively bad taste xD

Bought mgs hd collection on vita but it's pretty dissapointing

first impressions right as I booted it up : hey wait this is not 60 fps and looks blurry, go google it, yup mgs2 isn't 60 fps all the time and mgs3 is 30 fps (ugh), neither games are native res (what is it with the vita and subnative res games, is the hardware that poorly designed...)

controls aren't very good either with no pressure sensitive buttons to choke enemies and l2/r2 mapped to the back touchpad and the shitty touchscreen crap to look around in cover, ugh

the aspect ratio seems fucked too, like I can't see as much of the screen as I could in the ps2 version, or at least not vertically, never had issues with this in the ps2 version of mgs2

Also tried some dynasty warriors from the psn update but it is full of shitty touchscreen gimmicks :(

Really starting to feel the same about the vita lacking l2 and r2 buttons as I did about the psp lacking a second analog stick
it shits on the controls of a lot of games on it

Guacamelee for Vita. Ghost and Goblins for PSX.

My favorite would definitely be the FF games, Crash games, Medievil games Bloody Roar, Spyro and RE/DC games. So much time was put into finishing those. I know I have many favorites lol.

I personally didn't even finish FF9 but I watched my cousin play the whole game. Every time he wants to play the game, he would call me and I have to go to his house to watch. Good times.

Nothing quite like SotN IMO. That game is a bonified classic. Some of my fav psx games are Blood: Omen Legacy of Kain, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, Medievil, MGS1, Oddworld Abe's oddysey, the FFs, Chrono Cross, Resident Evil 1 and 2 and Vagrant Story.

Get busy!

Man I was just looking over the list of Vita indies announced at Gamescom and there are SO many sweet games I'm looking forward to from it: (bold means probable day 1 buy)

Assault Android Cactus (Witch Beam)
Fez (Polytron Corporation)
Final Horizon (Eiconic Games)
Flame Over (Laughing Jackal)
Gravity Crash Ultra (Just Add Water)
Gunslugs (Abstraction Games)
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital)
Kick & Fennick (Green Hill Studios)
Rogue Legacy (Cellar Door Games)
Samurai Gunn (Teknopants
)
Switch Galaxy Ultra
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (Nicalis)
Volume (Mike Bithell)
Wasteland Kings (Vlambeer)

And in terms of PS4 indies I just really want Secret Ponchos and Octodad!

Another week, another Drop. Let's go through the list.

  • Borderlands 2 & Dishonored Bundle (PS3) - Two good games from 2K Games, and if I hadn't already gotten Borderlands 2 at launch, I'd be interested in this. I never got around to finishing the copy of Dishonored that a friend lent me, so if it drops in price too I might grab it. Be warned: most people think Borderlands 2 is more fun co-op than it is single player.
  • Skyrim & Bioshock Infinite Bundle (PS3) - Another pair of 2K Games, but if you're on PS+ why would you care? The answer, my friend, is that by putting Bioshock Infinite into PS+ they are hoping to raise public awareness and then reel people in with this discount. That is how PS+ makes sense for publishers. But, enough about why it's happening. This is probably a good deal if you missed out on both of these. Did Skyrim ever reach acceptable performance on PS3?
  • Far Cry Classic (PS3) - This is a remade version of the original 2004 game for the PC. It claims to have enhanced graphics, cutscenes, and some sort of new interface. (Not interested.)
  • Far Cry Compilation (PS3) - You get Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3, and Blood Dragon in one package. Now, the real question is why the original Far Cry Classic isn't part of this compilation. Good question! The answer is: We want more money! (Also not interested.)
  • The Last of Us: Left Behind (PS3) - This actually comes out next Friday (14 February, Valentine's Day). This is actually DLC, so I believe it requires the full game to play the extra episode. (I loved TLoU, but I don't need this kind of stress in my life. Passing for now.)
  • Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) - More fantasy that isn't final, except that this time it claims to be a final chapter in Lightning's story. Someone else should elaborate on this, because I've only played tiny bits of FF1 (NES) and FF7 (PS1). This is also coming to retail.
  • Zombeer (PS3) - First person zombie shooter, with lots of zombie fiction tropes. Sounds awes...awful. (Not interested.)
  • TxK (PSV) - For long-term recovering Atari Jaguar fans, this feels like a little bit of home. We finally have another dying, unsupported system on which to play a Jeff Minter classic. Hot damn! (Buying this ASAP, and curling up for a night of psychedelic goodness. You should do the same!)
  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PSV) - I really can't improve on the line from the PS Blog post: "A group of high school students are pulled into a deadly trial, judged by a murderous bear." Oooooook! This one's digital and retail. (Looks like nonsense to me. Not interested.)
  • Toukiden: The Age of Demons (PSV) - A third-person perspective game that allows you to gather a group of folks to go hunting monsters. Was the top-selling PSV game of 2013, despite not being released outside of Japan? That's what Wikipedia is telling me. Also getting a retail release. (Not interested.)
  • Fort Defense (PSV) - This is a tower defense game from 8floor that was originally released for iOS, and the main review on the iTunes site is annoyed that it advertises 80 levels but you only get those if you pay for them as IAP. It has been reviewed by 38 people so far for an average of 3.5 stars out of 5, over there in Apple-land. There is a PSV version on the EU version of the store, I think, but I didn't check yet to see what it's priced like, and whether it has IAP or not. (Not interested.)
  • Blowout (PS3) - This is a PS2 classic from 2004 that has run-and-gun, sidescrolling gameplay. Has been out for Xbox 360 as an Xbox Classic since 2009. (Not interested.)
  • Pac-man World 20th Anniversary (PSP/PS3/PSV) - This is a PS1 classic that drops Pac-man into a 3D platformer. It was fairly well-received at the time, and even got a sequel with Ms. Pac-man. Unless you really need the nostalgia hit, you should really be playing a better game like Pac-man CE DX+. (Not interested.)
  • Wolf Fang (PSP/PS3/PSV) - Another PS1 classic, this time an import from Japan. A 1996 console port by Xing of a 1991 classic arcade game from Data East. (There was also a Sega Saturn release.) This is a 2D run-and-gun with mechs. Here's a video. (Not interested.)

So, yeah, probably just TxK for me. But that will be enough to keep me very happy for a while. :)

Assault Android Cactus (Witch Beam)
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital)
Rogue Legacy (Cellar Door Games)
Samurai Gunn (Teknopants)
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (Nicalis)

These are the ones I'm interested in. So much one hit kill in this list. Lovely.

Is the awesome music and pornographic-like moaning a Jeff Minter staple? I was interested in it since I've seen the demo last year and didn't know that the developer had a cult following.

agreed on pretty much everything. I dunno what Sony was thinking with this great screen and then (apparently) not enough power in the system to run games at native res most the time (forget native/60fps for anything with modern graphics). I had the same complaints when I got the MGS collection too, it's pretty damn ugly and blurry.

L2/R2 missing makes remote play virtually worthless :(
