That Henderson guy shat it as soon as the fella at the front with the glasses stood up. He didn't want any of that.
What's funny is I bet that old man thinks that's what happens. He's like "He don't want any of me"

Isn't that taunting? Did he get a technical for that?Never gets old. He scored 29 yesterday against Mizzou.
He should act like more of a professional...oh wait he doesn't get paid.

Damn, sounds like Smart should have gone back to Africa instead of pushing this Texas chump, judging by the replies here.
If you are playing the 'he started it' card, the other dude started it.Just stating facts. Someone pushed someone first
So should smart jump into the crowd every time someone heckles him with racist shit? I'm sure the nba scouts would like to know that.
If you called me a nigger, I wouldn't attack you. I have self control and a little fucking respect for myself. Their is no upside for me in that scenario. All I do is bring myself down to your level, and that's all Marcus did here. No, arguably lower since he actually touched someone.
Sure they are but I bet the great majority of them if you put them under intense pressure you can find a button to push that would make them react on the heat of the moment. I bet you you would fold under the right circumstances too. We all have our limits. What? There are 20 yr old men and women with real responsibilities holding shit down as we speak. When you are 20 you are an adult. No excuses. No matter how serious a game is.
They almost never are. You might occasionally see a fan escorted out of a game - but the amount ridiculously vile shit that is said to players would floor anyone who's never been to a few games. Hurling batteries, talking shit about players' familes, racial shit like this particular case. Its not uncommon at all. Especially in college games.Anyways, back on topic... am I the only one that feels "Go back to Africa" is worse than "Nigger"? I mean damn, nigger is obviously massively offensive but its a much more lazy insult than Go back to Africa. I can see nigger just being blurted out as a spur of the moment thing (not excusable in any way) but to say Go back to Africa requires a different thought process all together.
Regardless of what he said though, I can't stand by anyone who justifies his actions. Bottom line is athletes and fans should never mix. If the fan said those things, he should be treated with by the authorities. If he's a booster and has some level of sway with said authorities, in this day and age it is of no difficulty for Smart to hit social media and expose him for the racist dick he is.

What? This guy?! He looks 12-years-old. I don't see it in him.

Oh, he put a robe in his backpack while shopping and paid a fine after trying to walk out with it. I don't think that's the image people see when you say someone "robbed a store"
Oh okay.It was after the game was over.

Yeah I know, and it's massively messed up. But if Smart means to take matters into his own hands, physically lashing out is by no means the way to do so. Like I mentioned, there are enough avenues via social media nowadays to bring some attention to the issue, and for a nationally known athlete like himself even traditional media is an option. Wether he gets a result out of that is another question (I'm inclined to believe that he would, especially if done the right way, but that's another discussion), but it's still better than attacking a fan.
Damn, they have separate opposing fans with cops!?
Clearly the heckler's actions are deplorable but the Smart apologists here are just as bad if not worse. I knew by the time I was ten years-old that a normal civilized person does not react to provocation and is able to keep their emotions in under control (with the exception of life-threatening situations). Do I understand why he may have reacted the way he did? Yes. Do I think his reaction was in any way justifiable? No fucking way. He was an adult and he should be able to keep himself in check even under "emotional" or "heated" circumstances.
No, they aren't lolRegardless, student athletes are trained better than to do this...
Again, I'm really, really against putting more than a fraction of blame on the 20 year old that's literally working for his future income when there a several more responsible parties that should be doing better.
He shouldn't have to take anything upon himself to get something like this handled on the spot.

Dude shouldn't have said anything if he didn't want trouble. People yell some vile shit at players at sporting events and mostly get away with it because they're far away.
Your stance and attitude is what's wrong with the environment as a whole. You can say whatever you want to someone, but the moment they retaliate, they're the one that stepped too far. The general observer sees it this way, the stadiums basically see it this way, the organization running things sees it this way, and the fans will always see it this way. So that leaves the people on the otherside of this situation, the ones that actually got berated to the point where they don't give a fuck anymore, to be labeled as the people that need to take the high road and be bigger than it all.Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you. There's no justification for his actions to me, I don't care what the fan says. The fact that he is working for his future income, and that he is a worker - NCAA legalese and obfuscation notwithstanding - drive this point home. Theres a line between athlete and fan that should not be crossed, period.
And yeah, we both agree that he shouldn't have to take it upon himself. But I fail to see how that justifies his actions in anyway, seeing as he did take it upon himself. If he felt the need to, he should have done so in a way that did not include physical violence.
Marcus Smart shouldn't have been black. That way, the old-ass racist Texan wouldn't have called him a nigger and got the party started. All Smart's fault. Smh, If you're gonna fall into the crowd, be white first.
I could watch this gif all night because of how many different reactions there are. What is the thing in the top right that someone threw?
I can tell by the posts in this thread who the people who haven't seen Smart play this year. Dude is headcase. I'm surprised something like this didn't happen earlier.
Headcase is reserved for JR Smiths and Ron Artests. This guy is just frustrated that he came back to help his school win something big and his teammates don't do shit to help him when he's getting the majority of the attention every night. He's acting just like a typical NBA player - but its not cool because college basketball is so pure or something.

I don't think many NBA players would respond to a "YOU'RE A FLOPPER" chant from the crowd by getting themselves a technical which forced them to the bench (because it was his 4th foul) and cost their team the game. I don't think many NBA players would run out into the hallway behind the court in the last five minutes of a close game. He takes things further than most players.
He should act like more of a professional...oh wait he doesn't get paid.

Saw this on TV last night at the bar... wonder what the guy said to him.
You come at anyone with some racially founded insult and you run the risk of unearthing every single side-eye, injustice, shove in the back, and cheapening that they've ever dealt with in their life all at once. Even without the racial stuff here, everyone that has a button that can be pushed. The problem in many sports events is that fans feel that they are entitled to push every single one until they get a reaction. In no other situation in the civilized world is that okay.
So I really don't see the need of focusing more than a fraction of attention on what Marcus Smart could do better here. Especially when this situation is reoccurs countless times because of the same thing.
No, they aren't lol
This feels like you are projecting your own personal perspective onto him. Smart is an elite basketball player who has been catered to for years. Despite these recent problems, some team is likely to take a chance on him and he will potentially end up making more money by the time he is 25 than many of us will make in a lifetime. It seems unlikely he has the same built-up issues and resentments as a normal guy. Besides, it's not just sports figures that face this type of abuse and harassment. Any public figure in sports, entertainment, politics, or whatever faces this shit. The more high-profile they are, they more they are subjected to it. Doesn't make it right but it's they way things are.

That's crap. Fix the system that allows this shit to keep happening and these incidents that happen in every sport and there won't be anymore problems.
