PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

agreed on pretty much everything. I dunno what Sony was thinking with this great screen and then (apparently) not enough power in the system to run games at native res most the time (forget native/60fps for anything with modern graphics). I had the same complaints when I got the MGS collection too, it's pretty damn ugly and blurry.

L2/R2 missing makes remote play virtually worthless :(

Good avatar, dude.

L2/R2 would have been nice, but it wouldn't have been comfortable carrying it on your pocket...

How far am I in TLoU?
I'm in the hotel, Ellie just shot a guy and Joel was very thankful and supportive about it.
You're a bit over halfway in. Maybe 60%?
Another week, another Drop. Let's go through the list.

  • The Last of Us: Left Behind (PS3) - This actually comes out next Friday (14 February, Valentine's Day). This is actually DLC, so I believe it requires the full game to play the extra episode. (I loved TLoU, but I don't need this kind of stress in my life. Passing for now.)
  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PSV) - I really can't improve on the line from the PS Blog post: "A group of high school students are pulled into a deadly trial, judged by a murderous bear." Oooooook! This one's digital and retail. (Looks like nonsense to me. Not interested.)

I've mentioned this before. PS2 ports are all subnative on Vita (usually PS2 original resolution).
Everything else on Vita is mostly running native, including PS3 ports.

meh, I'd wager there's more people interested in PS4 remote play than there is people carrying their Vitas in their pockets. I'd also like to have a word with the guy who thought back touch pad was a good idea.

I'm 100% positive this is false. Majority of Vita games are not running at native res.

then again I don't really play many indies so if we count all those... who knows. Regardless, running 2D indies at native isn't impressive. I should probably rephrase my above statement to Vita games with 3D graphics

Killzone Mercenary runs on native resolution on Vita, and it looks stunning!.
Having a really hard time thinking that MGS2 should be more taxing on the system then Killzone, so MGS2 is probably just down to a bad port.

Yes and by Shu's words they're even planning to rebuild the mid-tier industry. Having the PS4 easier to develop to also works in their favor.

I'm gonna use this to seg-way(spelling herpderp) into something that's been on my mind. Read an article(not sure if it was posted here or not) about the Just Cause 2 devs going on about how making "AAA" games is no longer profitable and not something to be looking into any longer. Stating that even if everyone who had a next gen console bought their game it still wouldn't make them money. With that in mind what kind of world do you guys want to live in: A world filled with "AAA" games riddle with day one DLC, seasons passes, and micro-transactions up the wazoo? You get to keep your cinematic experiences but this is the only way. Or we see the way of the top tier gaming go out the door, and we're left with f2p games, mobile, and indie games/midtier games?

(I kinda wanted to make a thread about this but ehhhhhh, I do think it is a bit silly. :P)

Rather than a standard, I feel that this is more of an exception. Nonetheless, they are all great games in their own right. But still, I'd like to have more native res games from now on.

There are some cases where AAA games do profit but they are very rare. New IPs are having a hard time doing this though. I really expect the mid-tier games to boom this gen. Actually I'm not fond of games having a tier. There were no AAA games in the past. Just games. They were not based on budget and such but rather the actual core of the game. A bulk of these so called mid-tier games were also stuck in the PS2 era and were having a hard time coping with the HD generation. Now that they've have already become used to HD more or less, I think we have a great chance a seeing the return on the Japanese boom.

Nah, native or bust. I can deal with no AA. For example, I think Sonic & All Stars Racing looks better than Little Big Planet Vita.

Killzone does indeed look great. Too bad it's a Killzone game, so I'll only play it if it goes free on PS+

I wish everything looked as good as Killzone/Toukiden/Virtua Tennis, etc. Gravity Rush and Uncharted would look spiderman3sogood.gif if they were native, esp GR.

Heard that Sony is gifting everyone who adds 50€ on their SEN Account 10€ for feee, do I have to add 50€ at one time to get the free 10€, or can I add 20€ today and the rest later?

Why not both? With how good a native res game with AA like Toukiden looks like, it's hard to go back to those jaggy filled games.
Ideally, yes. But beggars can't be choosers and it seems Omega Force are the only ones able to consistently do both on the Vita.

I swear I haven't heard of any problems regarding native res in any PSP game before so why I am having this problem Sony? Geez. They should have packed a more powerful processor in the Vita or at least pegged down the resolution. I guess it's not really possible unless the Vita will be more expensive. So unfair. :/

Nah, pretty sure every PS4 game is 1080p except BF4 which is 60fps*

*Does not hold 60fps, like almost every other console game that claims 60fps.

For now anyway. Just like every other console ever made, the PS4 will have to make concession in order to play late gen games. This is the best bet to play native or 60fps game though. The content is rather lacking though. I'm planning to buy one down the line when there's enough content that interests me. I bought my PS3 3 years late despite my utter hype for it and I'm willing to do the same for my PS4.

Has SFxT been made available on PS+ yet? Or is that later in the month?

Later.

I'm playing through Infamous 2 right now (played the first one a couple years ago) and I totally agree that an Infamous game would be great on the Vita. I love the way the side missions and collectibles are structured in this series and think it would translate well to a hand held.

Of course, the open world likely wouldn't translate in the same way, so it would have to hubs or smaller open spaces or perhaps even some wide linear passages or something....

Looking forward to TxK this week.

not really a network thread post, but my ps4 gold wireless headset just shipped from amazon. thought id give some ps4 users a heads up

Baekshi is one of the biggest Soul Sacrifice players here, which is a game that is neither native nor even close to 60 fps. I see VitaGAF's sarcasm meters are broken today.

At the time of it release the Vita was pretty much the top tier in mobile specs. The problem lays in the word mobile where tech development moves fast. The Vita's four core ARM processor is super outdated compare to any modern smartphone (it's gpu has aged rather well).

What was most disappointing was that the Vita 2000 had no hardware update in term cpu/gpu or a nice 720p screen atleast.

Their source is some reddit comment so I wouldn't really put much faith in this rumor. If true however, I saw the price a mile away

Sony thinks people are gonna pay $50/year for this and $50/year for PS+? hahahaha

side note: chapter 31 touchscreen swiping "boss fight" in Uncharted GA has to be one of the worst things I've had to play through in my 20 years of playing games. why SCE Bend, why

It would work if both of them allowed to play online multiplayer so people have choice picking one or the other or both.

Man I was just looking over the list of Vita indies announced at Gamescom and there are SO many sweet games I'm looking forward to from it: (bold means probable day 1 buy)

Assault Android Cactus (Witch Beam)
Fez (Polytron Corporation)
Final Horizon (Eiconic Games)
Flame Over (Laughing Jackal)
Gravity Crash Ultra (Just Add Water)
Gunslugs (Abstraction Games)
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital)
Kick & Fennick (Green Hill Studios)
Rogue Legacy (Cellar Door Games)
Samurai Gunn (Teknopants
)
Switch Galaxy Ultra
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (Nicalis)
Volume (Mike Bithell)
Wasteland Kings (Vlambeer)

And in terms of PS4 indies I just really want Secret Ponchos and Octodad!

Gravity crash ultra? What's ultra about it? New game, or a port of the PS3 version? Have the PS3 version, and the PSP version on my vita - love me some thrust/gravity force style games.

Yeah, I just remembered that the Vita had the same processor as an Ipad 3 right?

You can't upgrade closed systems. That would risk the fragmentation of user base. We're stuck with what we have right now until the next iteration of the Vita comes. If there ever will be one. ;__;

I think it's just an enhanced version of Gravity Crash. Like the upgrade from Velocity to Velocity Ultra.

Killzone is more the exception than the rule but it's even the evidence that Vita's hardware is more than fine, it's all up to developers that sadly most of the times are lazy.
The only way to get only native res games, in any console, is to have a resolution lock, without it developers will always do what they want.

I don't think it's so much developers being lazy as it is Sony first party studios being masters at their craft.

Is the awesome music and pornographic-like moaning a Jeff Minter staple? I was interested in it since I've seen the demo last year and didn't know that the developer had a cult following.
Awesome music, yes. I don't recall the moaning in Defender 2000 (also on Jaguar) but it is certainly part of Tempest 2000.

Vita isn't getting visually intensive mobile phone ports, so I don't know what that has to do with the conversation at hand. Developers are prioritizing lighting and visual effects over frame rate and screen resolution. This happens on consoles too.

I keep trying to add SFxT to my cart and checkout, but it shows as full price.
I thought it was supposed to be free for PS+ members in February?

On other consoles there are many impressive third party games, developers just don't try too much.
I'm starting to doubt that Vita is so easy to develop as they say.

The problem is that Vita has no third party games outside of no budget releases.

No budget releases can't be good games?

Edit: I read it out of context.

Third party games don't come close to first party games on the PS3 though.

nice, Bend were so devoid of creativity that they re-used this horrible idea for the final boss. beat and deleted from my card, what a bad game.

The releases are timed. So that one's not available for free. Try the PS+ thread to keep up with these things.
