the tv show dick waving that goes on here is laughable.
I really dont get the constant pissing contest stuff. Some people seem incapable of enjoying something on its own merits, they need to arbitrarily list and judge things to make order of sense of quality work. Maybe there is a time and place for that, but it isn't 4 episodes into the first season.

who else recognized one of the biker crew as this guy from The Blair Witch Project?

Nice to see him still getting work. :)

Also- man, that ominous feeling with the high helicopter shot showing the first responder police getting surrounded and overwhelmed. Fucking chilling.

Fukunaga and the crew ran through the whole thing seven times while the cameras were rolling. The director built in possible edit points if two takes had to be combined to make the perfect version of the shot, but anyone who is wondering should know that the sequence everyone saw in the episode is, in fact, a true single take and one of the great achievements of filmmaking for television.

Why can't I preorder the BR already? I need these guys to take my money.

Mind blown? mind blown.

Wow, I didn't even stop to -think- about how it was one continuous 6 minute take. It was just so engrossing that I was totally in the scene. I guess the fact that it's continuous enhanced that feeling a lot.

After watching the scene again, I think one of the edit points designed into the sequence is the pan from right to left inside the first house just before they start shooting. Most of the pan is directly on the white wall up close.

Has the line "You are the Michael Jordan of being a sonofabitch" been mentioned yet? I'm sure it must have been by now. That was a funny fucking line.

EDIT: And Holy Shit I just realized that Ginger was Hans Schroeder from Boardwalk Empire. Talk about a transformation over the past few years.
Oh wow, I didn't pick up on that one.

That line was great as was Hart's side eye when he delivered this one:
“Gotta be tough, living with somebody spoutin’ insane shit in your ear all day long,”

An an amazing episode all around. Everything I want to say about that ending has already been said. Did not know it was one continuous shot till my second viewing.

What a great episode. I wish i didn't have to wait a week to watch the whole thing.

"With all that dick swagger you roll, you can't spot crazy pussy?"

Loved that line. Real talk.

There are a lot of edit points built into the 6-minute sequence, it's amazing that they didn't end up needing to use them. Only real problem spot is Rust's stage fighting with the guys on the ground. The shot exposes that he's hitting their backs, not their heads, so it looks silly. But that's a small nitpick for an otherwise insane sequence.

The part that makes that silly for me is after Rust hits them, the guys are just rolling around holding their heads making groaning noises, and then Rust grabs Ginger and crouches next to a bush like 30 ft away from them. Would've been better if he gave them a few more pistol whips until they were both knocked out cold.

But yeah, just something a little goofy in what was like 15secs out of an amazing 6 minute sequence.

Don't judge a series by a couple episodes. The wire takes at least four eps just to dmset the table. If you aren't incredibly impressed by the end of the first season then maybe it really isn't for you. After season 4 if you don't understand the appeal then there's probably something wrong with you. I don't like to rank shows because each show has different goals. Sopranos and The Wire are both incredible at what they set out to do.

I finished the first season.

I was a little confused when episode 4 started. After the way episode 3 ended, lights and sirens on weaving through traffic, I though 4 would open with the shootout they were talking about. Really enjoyed the episode though. My mind keeps drifting back to that final long shot. So good.

Marty`s side girl is sooooo sexy

I recognized her from the "Percey Jackson" movies my 10 year old son likes. I was like "Oh hey, that's Annabeth and OH MY GOD SHE'S NAKED!" Not expecting that.

Patton Oswalt is a big fan of Hannibal and True Detective, and has some amazing tweets when new episodes air. Last night:

We're only halfway through the season of #TrueDetective. WHAT THE HELL ELSE COULD THEY POSSIBLY HAVE IN STORE FOR US. #GoodGod

I'm nude on the corner of Melrose/La Brea, throwing my poo at cars. Don't know how else to express how blown away I am by #TrueDetective.

.@DanaDelany Those last 6 minutes raised the bar for TV and cinema. 2014 better step the fuck up. #TrueDetective

The storyboard for the last 6 minutes of tonight's #TrueDetective was just a charcoal drawing of Martin Scorsese jizzing.

Fantastic episode. Final 20 minutes were tense as hell. This show gets better with each episode.

McConaughey keeps killing it.

Had no idea Fukunaga directed Sin Nombre, I don't remember much about the directing anymore, but that movie was bleak.

Haha! Awesome. Just caught the episode and was like...holy crap that was intense. Just hoping I wasn't the only one. Glad I'm not! ;)

Going to have to marathon this show when it's all done.
