Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Considering how many of the people who support more female characters seem to just want them because of traditional creepy otaku reasons and only use "gender equality" as a cover, I feel I'm justified in calling them that.

So you're basing an assumption you've made ("seem to") about "many" people to label everyone who wants more female characters as Team Waifu?

Screw gender equality! What about villain equality?

So really, do we have any guesses as to what Sakurai was talking about when he said we'd be "customizing characters and transferring them to the Wii U version?"

Unless there's a Soul Caliburesque create-a-fighter (this is Namco, after all...) my closest guess would be either a Mii character (which I guess can be used for c-a-f) or even customize Villager her/himself. The Animal Crossing series is known for personalization, after all.

I'm sure we've talked about it before, but I just feel like this is such a weird statement to have no follow up on whatsoever.

Maybe like control profiles? It's certainly possible to transfer saves between 3DS and Wii U as shown with Monster Hunter. It could even be Mii or Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing?
Maybe even a special character that is built for customising?

I would honestly take a half-assed clone over making them an alt. I mean, what does it say about Lucina if she's only an alt costume in a game franchise that throughout it's history has featured Green Mario, Evil Mario, Dr. Mario and Regular-Ass Mario?

Those two would not be all that different in the end. It would simply be another method to add characters who may be similar in playing style by default. And I'd love to see Lucina get a spot but she has to go through Ike, Chrom, and may be even Robin so I would settle for her to be playable in some form.

I'd totally be down to see her in some form.

wow

We really don't know anything aside from no changing of stats or attacks and no random clothing for costumes. My best guess is that we've been given a hint of it within the initial trailer not to mention Sakurai said we'll be able to change the "directionality" of attacks, what ever the heck that means.

During the trailer Mega Man's saw blade caused coins to fly out of Mario when the blade just nicked his clothes. I bet that is part of it. Making so if you get hit hard enough you can customize it so coins fly out of Mario, or something like rings for Sonic. We'll probably get to change the visual effects that accompany the attacks as well. These 2 examples are very basic but that's my best guess so far.

Aside from that I think we have a good chance of seeing true alternate costumes for everyone. Not skins of entirely different characters, but more things like Wario and Wii Fit Trainer. Sakurai did say we would be able to customize characters in 3DS then show them off on the big screen. So along with a cool costume, we could potentially customize our victory theme, taunts, and entrance animations.

I wouldn't mind if characters have different sets of moves you could mix and match. That'd probably be way too much work on Namco's end, though.

I'd assume Mona would get in before Syrup, though I expect neither of them would actually have a shot.

I think at this rate, basically everyone has a shot. Mona probably has better chances because she's in more games, and a protagonist as opposed to a villain/NPC, but I'd much rather have Syrup since she has been part of Wario's development ever since SML3, and also was part of the latest Wario Land game.
She's also significantly more interesting and got significantly more moveset potential than Mona, and Wario Land also is a significantly cooler series than WarioWare.

hates women, loves evil?

:P

Not rolled up newspaper evil, classic evil. Boiling cauldrons of random body parts, goblets filled with blood, and electrified cadavers. GOP? No, I'm not a monster.
