PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

Appreciate it. I'm downloading Outlast and I have Killzone to fire up after that, so I have plenty to keep me busy until the 21st. Thought I"d get a quick bit of DoA in while Outlast downloaded, but alas.

If you browse / purchase games via the Sony Entertainment Network https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/home/games they display badges on the bottom indicating what platforms that game will run on.

Be wary of the games that run on multiple systems but aren't cross-buy. Make sure you choose the correct system :P (might only apply to Vita).

Do we have any info on what the headset companion app is?

EDIT: Info here.

For those of you with Pulse Wireless Headsets, here’s a bit of good news. The companion app, that lets you set different audio profiles for different games, is now available for PlayStation 4.

...

The companion app is totally free, as you would expect, and it also works with the GTA V branded Pulse units. Currently it has audio settings for “game, music, movie, shooter, fighting, techno, hip-hop, action and horror” with more promised soon. You can also can expect to see specific audio settings designed to get the absolute best from upcoming PlayStation games. Those should arrive around the same time as the games they cater for and will be visible within the app itself.

I did research into what I really cared about, namely the big games coming in 2014. I sort of assumed PSN operated somewhat like Steam, but it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I assumed incorrectly, but I didn't know that being unaware of a feature is some sort of sin that deserves mocking.

Well, even Steam have some games unavailable for different OS platform like Mac or Linuxn. Just take it that PS3 to PS4 as different platform, not just a normal upgrade like PC 1.2 to PC 2.0 did, as the former have different processing architecture altogether while the latter will be the same unless you changed your OS.

The PS4 store is pretty empty at the moment, which is obviously to be expected, but wow, the PS3 had a ton of stuff. Considering how DD is a focus Day 1 on the PS4, I imagine it's going to catch up quick.

PSN actually operates in a way that's better than Steam, as you know PS3 games will always work on PS3, and PS4 games will always work on PS4, same as the day your purchased them. Your Steam purchases have not only Steam DRM but additional DRM checks as well that may be taken down at any point, leaving you without access to your games. You're relying not only on Valve, but uPlay, Origin, Games For Windows, etc.

We're going to have to disagree on that one. But this isn't the thread for another PC vs. Console debate.

Heh. Don't mean to keep ignoring you, bro. I understand different architectures. I had just assumed incorrectly how the PSN from console to console would operate. Mostly because what I know about computing could fit a very small pamphlet. Page one would mention that mice are not just rodents.

It's not really a debate. Steam games have additional DRM that console games don't.

Steam also supports multiple incompatible platforms just like PSN, so for example if you switch to SteamOS or Mac OS X you're not guaranteed backwards compatibility.

Except, of course, being locked to one console. When I upgrade my PC, my Steam games I bought 5 years ago still work.

But like I said. Not the thread.

If you upgrade to the same platform, sure, they'll work. If you upgrade your PS3 to another PS3 the games will also still work. If you upgrade a PC to SteamOS or a Mac, your Steam games won't work.

And it wouldn't run on my toaster or car, either. Sorry, there is nothing you can say that makes it so that PC's approach to DD is worse than what we have on consoles right now. I enjoy both, so let's just say I disagree and move on.

PSN games? What is that

This thing, I guess:

Do note though that some PSP game that not listing PSVita as it playable platform still able to played on Vita like Jeanne D'Arc.

Okay, point taken. I just trying to be as helpful as I can.

It's not worse, it has its advantages and disadvantages and I was merely pointing them out to you.

Either way, a PS4 is different than a PS3 just like your toaster and car and tablet and Linux based x86 PC are different than your Windows based x86 PC. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh, you are. I just saw that you had posted twice and I hadn't responded. And the above probably fed into my assumptions. I bought a Vita to play Tactics Ogre (a PSP game).

I dig. Only thing I disagree with at all was the "PSN actually operates in a way that is better than Steam." Thanks for the info on the rest, appreciate it!

I figure this thread is the best one to ask:

Any word on Dead Nation and GoW 1 and 2 for Vita, or are those going the way of RE PSP?

Actually, Steam itself is just a digital store and delivery client. There are games you can purchase and download with Steam but can run without Steam (just launch the exe from the folder). It devs/pubs who decide to use Steam DRM and to use any other DRM on top of that.

I have a ps4 question but I dont know where to post it so I'll just put it here.

After I download a game update, install it. Do I have to keep the 'update file' under downloads? Or can I delete it?

No, you buy it today, it's really good.
That $10 is going towards the Bug Hunting Game (EDF)
Just found out that Danganronpa won't be available on psn until next week in EU :/

I wont get it til maybe end of te month :v
:(
So concerning the Metal Gear HD Collection... MGS3 first and MGS2 second? Do I need a comprehensive knowledge of what went down in 1 to enjoy 2?

Play them in order of release. Including the original MGS.

Quick question:
When can we expect (if ever) a sale on Persona games in EU? I know there are frequent sales on us psn and Atlus doesnt have much presence in EU, but really wanna get P3P and P4G down the line.

Is there a complete list of all Japanese Vita models and colors somewhere? I'm thinking about importing a non-black one and would like to see all available options so far.

A couple Vita Japanese announcements

This system is starting to pick up steam with release frequency geez.

Any hopes for localizations of some of these titles?

Looks far more interesting than the garbage SCEA announced for Vita a couple days ago. I wish the system was truly region free (not swapping memory cards) and that I could read Japanese. No hope for non-indies or non-PS3 ports for Vita in the US ; ;

SCEA announced some great games, including a couple of Japanese localizations. Please cut out the hyperbole.

First one, yeah.

Eiyuu Senki? Highly unlikely lol. It was originally a hentai game on PC, but although the PS3/Vita ports are an all-ages version they still contain some pretty risque art. Also the conquest srpg genre is pretty niche in the west anyways and limited to PC games.
