So a few things can pan out tomorrow, all depending if Japan has a direct announced as well.

- Normal Pic of the Day Veteran Reveal with no Smash news whatsoever on Direct.

I would probably compare it to the Lucas/Ness situation. That's how I can SORT OF see it happening like that.
But I'm still fully expecting Diddy.
A dual veteran/newcomer announcement would be great though! In fact, it would probably make sense the most with Diddy and Dixie.

I don't think tomorrow's Direct will have a Smash announcement, but who knows.

I really don't think Nintendo is gonna show off Smash and have it be about Diddy. Sonic was a special case.

Didn't every Nintendo Direct since the SSB4 announcement at least have SOME Smash related news?
I don't see how this one will be different.

Yep. Every bimonthly Direct since June has featured Smash Bros.
June - E3 announcement/huge blowout
August - Luigi
October - Sonic
December - Rosalina & Luma
February - ???
There is no confirmation for a Japanese Direct yet. If it's not a worldwide Direct then theres' no Smash Bros. :c

No. Counting all regions but South Korea, there's been 13 Directs since E3. There were 2 Nintendo Directs since then that had Smash Bros. information. The one that showed Sonic, and the one that showed Rosalina. So 11 without info on Smash.
Edit: Oh right, there was the Luigi announcement too.

So stoked for this direct. I really don't have high hopes for smash in the direct, more excited to hear possible announcements/reveals/release dates. But smash info is always welcome!

The video opens with gameplay footage of Diddy Kong. 15 seconds pass, and then Dixie Kong flies into view and knocks Diddy off the stage. “Dixie Kong twirls into battle!” Cue Dixie Kong gameplay footage.

I just can't see the reveal of two characters in the same day. They're going to want to spread character reveals out as much as possible.

The Nintendo Direct would be on Friday in Japan, so they'd technically be a day apart. Sonic was revealed 5 days after Toon Link, so it's not completely unprecedented -- and if two characters deserve to be revealed so close to each other on Valentine's Day, it's Diddy and Dixie.
Sakurai's throwing a screwball; it's actually Popo and Nana.

Simple reason why I don't think Year of Yoshi is happening: It's 24 years since Super Mario World. Why would they celebrate 24 years? No one celebrates that! And if we count Yoshi's solo outing with Yoshi's Island that's 19 years.
Year of Luigi conveniently celebrated 30 years of Luigi since Mario Bros.
On the flip side 2014 marks 20 years since Donkey Kong Country and gee what game do you think they'll mention in tomorrows Direct. Now I'm not saying it with be the Year of Donkey Kong, but it sure has a better chance.

Yoshi being revamped to carry Baby Mario, while awesome, wouldn't happen.

Mannnn, I loved the 3D classics, but Nintendo said that no more were going to happen. I'm sure this rumor is fake, but I like the way they're thinking at least.

hoping in the back of my mind we get a trailer that gets some returning characters out of the way (yoshi, diddy, wario mostly) and then goes on to show a newcomer or possibly more than one. essentially an e3 trailer part 2, if you will.
realistic expectations are for dixie. i don't think we'd get a trailer for just diddy.
