Comcast to buy Time Warner Cable - 44.2 billion in stock

I've had both, and they are both horrible cable companies. TWC's internet is overpriced, slow (for it's price), and generally reliable. They reduced signal strength in my area so I had to connect my moden with a shorter coaxial line.

Whatever, I'm getting Google Fiber. Google may be a corporation, but getting you fast internet is in your interest whereas these dinosaurs are going to dick around and bottle air.

They aren't getting my business for internet. Fuck them after living in FL and having to deal with them or ATT I refuse to pay this shit company for anything be it cable or isp.

So we'll have one massive, unstoppable corporation controlling our entire country's Internet, the very blood of our modern economy?

What could possibly go wrong?

I don't know what all these internet complaints are about. I've got comcast internet and it is pretty damn fast and I don't have a cap.
Enjoy your no cap because you are about to get one.

Comcast has slowly been rolling out their cap. And congrats on being like 1 out of a billion people who don't have any problems with them. Seriously. Comcast is a shitty fucking company who fucks millions of people. It's literally an anomaly that you have no problems with comcast.

What competition? It's not like I'm choosing between TWC and Comcast now.

I live in a TWC market (Charlotte), and I think there should be competition, but I can't lament something that I'm not losing.

They'll cap it, throttle content they don't like (TWC does this with youtube), and not progress into the future.

The future of the internet is cloud storage and 4K-8K streaming. I want to be able to store 50 GB of data in the cloud within minutes. Or download a 50 GB game from Steam. Or stream an 8K movie. None of this will happen with Coaxial. Not even close.

While it's true that there is no real competition in the cable market for most people, allowing those companies to voltron up increases their political power, which is already a bit out of control.

Fuck them.

And internet should be a utility.

This is like Verizon wireless buying Sprint isn't it?

From what I hear Comcast will be an upgrade to whatever service Time Warner is currently providing. But there is no way this deal goes through, right?

It's location based. Here you get 300gb and you are charged $10 per 50gb you go over and you get 3 "warnings" the first 3 times you go over your 300gb you aren't charged.

If you use comcast i highly suggest using a VPN program when streaming.

Since i started using one i stream Netflix flawlessly in HD, without it it takes me a good 3-4 minutes into the stream to get decent quality SD with some buffers from time to time but i rarely ever get HD streams without the vpn.

Comcast throttles Netflix, it might not be in all locations but i know for a FACT they do it here. and it's goddamn bullshit.

How does one go about getting a VPN program? I've never heard of them.

Whale Wars is One Piece
Freedom Riders is 12 Years a Slave
Jersey Shore is World's Strongest Man

same here. I got xfinity and get 50mbs like they said. Super fast never really had any issues.

so much for time warner upgrading their basic internet to 50mbs in los angeles by the end of the year.

I just went from Comcast to Time Warner. Outages have been more frequent, the internet is slower on a comparable plan, and they just took away local channels. They're both a mess.

Yeah, cable companies are a me-

Wait.
WAIT.
WHO ARE YOU, GIMME MY NAME :p

My parents have comcast in Florida and the fucking guide looks like a goddamn 8-bit Nintendo game. Ridiculous in 2014.

No this is nothing like that. The complaints of anti competitive just screams how unaware people are of the business.

I'm sick of these giant entities growing bigger and merging like giant amoebas. The government needs to crack them down, but of course they will claim persecution.

Verizon, now is your chance to get into a completely new market and capitalize on it.

Capitalize like T-Mobile did. Cheap, fast Internet and basic cable package that's a ridic low price if someone already has their phone on Verizon.

Because Google is going to take forever to get here.

Hello Google? While I'm not pleased with everything you do, Chrome is good and whatnot, could you please use your internet benevolence to, ya know, kinda kick these assholes in the coin purse for a while? Thanks!

In certain markets, they have put the cap back on (but at 300 GB). It's only a matter if time before it's widespread.

Oh, it's that high? Then I'm personally not worried. I just checked my internet usage because I work from home 3 days per week, and thought maybe an internet cap would hit me. But my peak recent usage was November at 38GB.

Never had a great experience with Comcast. That said, my experience with TWC has been better. No more all digital 100Mb connection upgrades?
