Doesn't Comcast call all of their shit Xfinity because their brand is basically destroyed?

Charter was trying so hard to buy up TWC too. Comcast must have gone behind their backs. Either way, Comcast was getting a piece of TWC.

Weren't they already the same company? When they both joined to buy Aldephia they split the country in half comcast left for the east and TW stayed in the west they never really compete with one another anyway they just slice the pie as they want. Such a scam.

Well. Everyone knows it's comcast so that doesn't work, they needed a service branding that is different from Comcast since it became a giant behemoth when they bought NBC.

Told you!

I never thought Time Warner Cable could get any worse.

They tried implementing a 250GB/month cap, but dropped it after people complained. They still say they'll call and warn those using what they deem to be an "excessive" amount of bandwidth to stop or risk being throttled, though.

Comcast now has a 300GB/month cap. You can go over 3 times before they start charging you. It is $10 for ever 50GB over 300.

Comcast is great until they suck. Now, it will be easier for them to suck over a wider area. This does not make me happy, although I've always been ... satisfied by their service. Happy is giving them too much.

It's location based. Here you get 300gb and you are charged $10 per 50gb you go over and you get 3 "warnings" the first 3 times you go over your 300gb you aren't charged.

If you use comcast i highly suggest using a VPN program when streaming.

Since i started using one i stream Netflix flawlessly in HD, without it it takes me a good 3-4 minutes into the stream to get decent quality SD with some buffers from time to time but i rarely ever get HD streams without the vpn.

Comcast throttles Netflix, it might not be in all locations but i know for a FACT they do it here. and it's goddamn bullshit.

It is reinstated in test markets. I know some cities in Tennessee have caps now.

In certain markets, they have put the cap back on (but at 300 GB). It's only a matter if time before it's widespread.

Fuck you, Comcast.

Yup. I'm in Atlanta and just checked and we were charged an extra $10 for going over our cap last month. Awesome.

After the whole Meredith Attwell Baker thing, Comcast can pretty much get away with whatever the fuck they want.

That NBC deal should have never gone through.

So I'm going to be going from the 6th best ISP for Netflix streaming to the 14th. Fuck.

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-to-Double-Existing-Speeds-Again-for-Some-Users-127416

Many users only just received Comcast's last batch of speed increases, and now a reliable source at Comcast tells us that another round of updates are in the pipeline for users in some markets. According to the source, Comcast will be boosting their "Performance" tier from 25 to 50 Mbps, their "Blast" tier from 50 to 105 Mbps, and their "Extreme" service may be moving from 105 Mbps to 305 Mbps (this last one's not set in stone). For many users, these tiers were doubled in speed just last year.

Fuck, that is not good new for internet access in America. Fuckers doing this during the Olympics while people are distracted. I got Charter so I'm good for now, but I am quivering in my boots if I ever get Data Caps. I guess worst case is getting the business internet plan, that cost a shitton more -_-
So sad considering their huge margins, coaxial has the band with to spare. Stop pretending your TV shit that's more and more irrelevant doesn't use the same fucking data. Ugh. Frustrated.

250gb, but on my acct, i've had a sign under it forever that says "data caps are not currently enforced" or something

That's the old soft cap that has existed as legal grounds to terminate service of obscenely heavy abusers (think multiple TB's). Hard caps are enforced across the board (a la mobile data) with 250-300GBish bucket and I think $10/per 50GB overage fees. Hard cap is what they're currently "trialing" in the south east, but their intentions are transparent enough.

What the fuck. If Tmobile and AT&T isn't possible (it shouldn't be), then how could the FTC let this happen?

"Hey FTC, you dropped some money. We deposited into your banking accounts so you wouldn't lose it again."

Doesn't this still have to go by regulatory agencies? Not to mention lawsuits for being anti-competitive. Don't they have to prove with evidence this doesn't stifle competition? Kinda like how that big airline merger had to give up spaces at airports to get approval. Then again, Comcast is a top contributor to the current administration campaigns. Obama golfed with the Comcast CEO late last year.

Comcast is better than TWC; it would have been worse the other way around.

That said, this is awful for competition and makes the US ISP situation all the more limited which is both sad and pathetic given how populated this country is. There are too little ISP's as is. Getting rid of another one is not the way to go.

Google has an office here in Pittsburgh, so I really hope that will serve as a catalyst for Google Fiber. HURRY UP GUYS.

Didn't TWC and Comcast have some sort of relationship in place already? It seems I remember a few years back they literally traded markets in several Texas cities, but I could be wrong.

I know around 2006 or so Comcast traded DFW to to Time Warner, because I got my comcast hooked up and had to deal with it like one month later changing into Time Warner.

But this sounds awful. More cities should be looking to build municipal fiber networks to counteract this shot, or Google needs to step in and save us.

Wow at that throttling of Netflix. I cannot wait for Google to destroy all of these companies and put the aristocracy of dumb fucks that lead them on the street (albeit with a golden parachute, but without the irrational psychopathic high of fucking over people, their lives will be empty).

Again, people throwing around anticompetitive.... It's not anticompetitive if they don't compete... Quit using that term

Thank god I have Verizon FiOS.
You mean the service whose agents pre-2012 election would come into your house for a service call and tell you that if Romney wins their CEO wanted to work with him to force people onto Verizon Wireless by phasing out Fios/stopping it from being introduced to new cities?

This doesn't change anything. They were never competitors. They all had monopolies over geographical regions. Even still today I'm stuck with the only option of Time Warner even though I'd rather have pretty much any other company at this point. Kind of funny that my area went from @home to Comcast, then Comcast sold them to Time Warner, now Comcast will end up taking the area over again or I'll be one of the 3 million divested lol. It sucks because most places to live by me don't have the option for Fios. Time Warner bought long term contracts with most apartment complexes to only use them here.

It is kind of true. Comcast is better, Lesser of two evils of course.

I am more worried about price, as in your monthly bill.

I just want them to burn. They remind me of when AT&T lobbied against the freeing up of RF bands, which were used to create the whole cell phone market.

Oh there are plenty of reasons to complain, just not anticompetitive :).

Municipal fiber should be more of a thing

This is dangerous as fuck. Comcast are a bunch of scam-artists. They've flat out lied to me about prices of services and just last week i got a letter in the mail saying that to continue getting part of my service i'd have to pay an extra 10 bucks cause they overlooked me somehow.

Just watch, Comcast is gonna be all over data caps and anti-piracy measures as soon as they buy everyone. All their money is lining the pockets of corrupt politicians.

My parents have comcast in Florida and the fucking guide looks like a goddamn 8-bit Nintendo game. Ridiculous in 2014.

I have comcast and have for 10 years. Looks nothing like that and never has in my area. That's not to say their Netflix streaming and customer service still ain't horse shit
