Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

His Side-B definitely includes a hop. He uses it at the very beginning of the trailer. They time it to make it look like he's kipping up from the edge of the ropes into the ring.

After seeing the gifs of the entire trailer that were posted earlier, I think I can figure out most everything, except that move he uses to attack Link.

I think neutral-B is able to be charged, but does not charge indefinitely. You can charge it to dash further across the stage with more power, and accordingly experience what looks to be a pretty heavy cooldown effect. I think it has nothing to do with the meter until it changes to a powerful KO move upon the meter being full. Otherwise I bet meter is gained by landing hits in general, and not manually charged up via some kind of charge process (a la Samus or others).

The hit on Bowser in the beginning does appear to be his f-smash. The hit on the aerial opponent also looks like his u-smash (I thought it was his counter at first). Looks like all his smashes have some armor as well.

The only thing that still doesn't make any sense is wtf he's doing to Link. The only possible input I can imagine for it, is like was mentioned, it being a simple tap of neutral-B with no charge.

EDIT: And yeah it definitely is not a counter. Different animations, and it has no effects associated with the attack, which kind of goes with the uncharged neutral-B theory in that it would be less powerful.

I think you're right about the Neutral-B: the move is unleashed when you release the button, so my guess is that he used the move without charging the attack at all. (It's definitely not his Dash Attack because we see him use it against Mario.)

Regarding the Power Meter, though, I think it only charges insofar as you are holding down the B button. As far as I can tell, the Power Meter doesn't build any energy when Bowser first hits Mac; it only begins building when Mac starts charging his attack.

(Mac Jaeger and Titan Mac)

Fantastic, lol.

Oh my god, I know. I was watching the JPN Direct because I'm living here, but the ENG Doc is just infinitely better. If his conversations are in the game, I might just end up playing in English. :P

The official site lists 2/14/2014 as the date of the reveal of Little Mac, so I think the Little Mac picture is Friday's pic of the day. I wouldn't expect another. Remember, it's been Friday in Japan for a while--this just happened to be a super early update (7AM instead of like 5PM or whatever).

Yeah, I don't expect another Pic of the Day today since Sakurai also labeled Mac's Miiverse post as "Today's Picture".

GIF OF THE DAY is back with a VENGEANCE, and one of the most disgusting, DISRESPECTFUL smash combos I've ever seen:

Pay attention to the moment they zoom in. Mac actually unleashes the punch as soon as the camera moves in, as he is no longer shown standing/charging where we can see from the zoom-in. As soon as the camera zooms, he unleashes the punch, and (presumably) proceeds to pound Bowser to 200% before unleashing the ridiculous KO move. He isn't charging the same attack the entire time.

I don't know why but I enjoy seeing fox get wrecked.

YES.

Now that I think about it Dudley's Cross Crounter also has the effect where he takes a hit and then counters. He does take damage though. I can't find any gifs of it :/

I enjoy you getting wrecked D:

^Truth! With headphones you can hear the impact when he hits Sand Bag, Samus, etc with his charge punch. Sounds perfect.

I'm a part of a infinite Luma army tho. lol oops not you fox.

Still can't find a good image picture but this it basically the cross counter right before he hits back.

Yeah, and wrecking Fox is fun to me because of his fast falling speed, it also makes for the flashiest combos. The start-up on his recovery also makes it a blast to go for the kill if he's off-stage too. Marth loves Fox!

That said, I just love playing as Fox (second only to Marth for me). He's such an awesome character that has so many options. He's so creative.

So hyped for Little Mac! I do wonder what this means for Diddy and/or Dixie, though.

My guess is that if he/they are not revealed by next Friday (DKC TF's US release), we could be looking at the very real chance that Diddy's been cut, Dixie's not happening, and the DK series is going back to having just one rep for Smash 4.

I wonder...

Nah,Diddy is definitely going to be in the game. Dixie (unless partnered with Diddy) has a slimmer chance.

...that's a bit of a stretch.

Lucario (who was featured a lot in Pokemon XY) wasn't revealed when XY was coming out. Why would they really cut Diddy Kong of all characters?

But wasn't that for yesterday? They always do double daily pics on Nintendo Direct days (when characters are revealed)

Well in fairness, he posted that pic on February 14 in Japan, usually the ND is later in the same day he'll post the "Look forward to today's ND"

>.> welp more power to ya lol I can't use him much. Fox is a great Smash character though and the way players are using him now is ridiculous. I just enjoy seeing other characters still be able to play well against him.

True he has a few weaknesses but he is a beast, I wish I could use him better but eh I'm not at that skill level. I kill my self at least once when I use him.

Hmm... I'm really intrigued by someone mentioning Kirby. Would he just get the charge up punch without the meter or would the meter also be included?

Actually, most of the newcomers have some interesting questions regarding Kirby and his copy ability. What will the luna summon be like? Olimar's was altered when Kirby copied him, wonder if luma and little mac's are altered slightly. Have we identified what megaman, villager, and WFT's copy abilities are?

WFT is unknown, Villager is the pickup ability and Mega Man has the metal blade.

Probably not the right place to ask this, but do any of you guys know of some decent resources for learning competitive melee? I'm trying to learn SHFFLing right now but I've been having difficulties getting the hang of it.

I'm sure Nintendo doesn't consider them (Little Mac in the NES game, and the Green Gloved Boxer in the Arcade games) two different characters. Like "Jumpman" eventually became Mario in the Donkey Kong games. Same thing.

They even did this;
I think they do.

The poster is just a shout out, I don't think they are retconning an older cleft chin boxer into a teen age newbie.

Alright SmashGAF, who's down for some Project M online tomorrow before we kick off the NeoGAF Project M Tournament?

Gimme time zones and times free cause I'm hyped to scratch that Smash itch.

The old Advanced How to Play video is a great place to start.

If you're struggling with L-cancels a good way to practice is to use Link's dair - remember you're aiming to hit your trigger button the moment the attack touches the ground.

Fastfalling comes with practice too - the moment you hit the peak of your jump you want to slam your stick down toward the ground.

Once your L-cancels are on point you can try to work them into SHFFLing with faster characters.

Pro Tip: Keep your control stick down most of the time while playing Space Animals.

SHFFL is good for spacing and getting quick damage, but you're better off waveshining than that.

Keep the stick down while you jump with X or Y, it makes wavedashing much easier.

Once you get the hang of that, you can shine right out of a wavedash and you can continue waveshining by jumping out of shine, wavedash, and rinse and repeat.

It takes practice but once you master short hopping, fast falling, and L-Cancelling, you're golden and you'll be able to focus on your metagame style.
