A demo is more or less the way I'm treating it curently. I'm still on the fence with this game so I'd like to see if it actually feels much different to me than everything else I'm playing right now.
It's a two-way street. I pre-paid for it in full about 5 weeks ago, and not getting the beta pisses me off because I consider myself more deserving than some random guy who just signs up for the hell of it. Sure, I've committed already, but it just doesn't feel fair this way. I had money down before the beta was even going to happen. Now I just feel butt-hurt, and may get something else instead. I was OK with being excluded from the alpha, albeit a little disappointed. I understand the difference there. This just felt like a slap in the face though.

It's a gaint marketing campaign that advertises itself. No effort needed from the PR team at Respawn. It's just a glorified demo.
Internet Hype. They saw what happened with Hearthstone and they said we want that too.

At no point did anyone state you would get in if you buy the game.
It's a demo essentially of a game you have already decided to buy, why are you "butthurt"?
I haven't ordered it yet, I may not even buy it right away due to it coming out on the same day as Dark Souls 2, but I applied for a beta code, I am no less deserving than you.

I understand what you're saying, especially if someone who just signed up for he hell of it doesn't actually play the game, or wasn't interested to begin with or just wanted a beta key to sell it. From that standpoint you make sense. At the same time depending on your method of pre-ordering, to the publishers a pre-order from certain places is not a guaranteed sale. Also I read an opinion somewhere which also made some sense to me. If the beta was only offered to those who pre-ordered then those who treat it like a demo might cancel their pre-order and their sales may suffer.

That £3k one is so insane I'd be really surprised if anyone actually did anything with it. There's one with 11 bids going for £22 that finishes tomorrow morning. I think people are just trying to push their luck
Don't. Just pre-order the game, if you have done then buy a bunch of Hearthstone cards or something.

Wrong thread though.
I know nobody stated it, I didn't even think there'd be a beta. My point is that having a beta with recipients that are randomly generated makes it unfair. I went the extra mile and dropped $60, then wound up with nothing to show for it. Meanwhile, some dude who just spams the thing with different email addresses can get codes to scalp on eBay, etc. It just doesn't foster loyalty.
Don't get me wrong, I totally realize how ridiculous I'm being. That doesn't change the fact I feel this way though.

I got 3 Xbox One codes that I won't be needing. Put in 4 email addresses while signing up and got codes for all of them. Not sure if this is region locked since I'm in Paris France and the emails are in french.

Well, I was unsure whether he really had codes for the XBO and not the PC, so I had to go back, and check before send.
That does make sense. Realistically, they should've probably had a hybrid of the two. Get a number on a pre-order receipt that you redeem when you apply for the beta, and have that place you in a different queue for the codes than the totally random one. Have a 2:1 chance in the "pre-order line" over the "random line" to get a code. That's a compromise I'd be alright with, because at least there's some sort of acknowledgement from them beyond "you just lucked out."
