Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

The cartridge size won't be a problem. They might want to keep the size down for other reasons (for example Nintendo really is trying to make more people buy their games digitally)

I just realized how I love Wii Fit Trainer's "tag in" works. Unlike other characters, she shows off her moves first before her "joins" tag appears, and she does it with a "YOU CAN DO IT" pose.

Honestly she's still my favorite newcomer.

So, if AT's can level up to full blown and playable, I'm hoping Saki Amamiya follows suit.

I want Lyn myself. That way the Isa+Katchi team up is still a possibility and when Takamaru gets confirmed, I can play the One True Match Up™ while blasting Rules of Nature on a custom soundtrack.

I'm not sure if I'm wrong or not.

Was files in Brawl DVD horribly compressed? I'm pretty sure that they would do the compression correctly this time.

I agreed with you, and I really hope that they would add more flavors to veterans because Rosalina, Mega Man, Villager and Little Mac added so much flavors to the game and making the veterans look pale in comparison.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. I've actually felt like this from Brawl when characters like Pit, Metaknight and Snake were shown off for the first time. It just feels like the new guys are bringing along so much more flair in design that the vets either need to start tapping into their franchises' resevoirs or pray that it all works out.

well if you choose to believe there'd be less characters, then whatever

It's pretty much guaranteed that there are delays within development, especially in a game bloated with content like Smash. A ton of content gets scrapped due to various reasons (more often than not it's purely time constraints). I mean, just look at the character roster we would've had in Brawl - there's quite a few characters that have been dropped from the final roster that would've made the cut if there would've been more time.

So yes - if Sakurai made the statement that they're aiming for a roster of 50 characters, I would still believe we likely would end up with less characters due to time constraints.
And even if they reached their 50 character roster and still had plenty of time, it wouldn't necessarily go towards additional characters.

It's pretty much the sole reason why you will never hear fighting game devs say how many characters the final product will have, unless they're either very close to release or absolutely certain they have enough time - and latter usually only happens for expanded versions of the base game.

Well assets like textures should take up less space on SSB 3DS than brawl and it would probably have less FMV and more compressed. So theoretically there should be more space for the SSB 3D game than Brawl

I thought they were using a dual layer dvd?

Yes, Dual Layer DVD = 8GB.

Brawl's file sizes are 7.47GB tho

When I noticed that Pit and Bowser got new moves which led me to believe that they are trying to improving them as well, but I would rather to see it for myself when I play the game.

I just want to know your excitement levels and reaction when you saw his trailer.

Sorry for the delay, but after further investigation, I have concluded that it is indeed Little Mac. I was thrown off by some of the moves in the trailer that don't look like they are from any of the Punch-Out!! games directly. However, after analayizing this shot, I am 98% confident that it is Little Mac.

This picture clearly shows letters grouped together that form words. My research has discovered that these grouped together letters forming words say Little Mac. Now I will say that I am completely surprised to see him included. There was absolutely no way to see this coming. I am ecstatic. It is also surprising to see him using the power meter which appear in games that Mac isn't even in, but it looks like Sakurai may be inline with Nintendo of America's Super Punch-Out!! retcon, and he may be going even further with an arcade retcon as well. The design is neat, it is obviously based off of Punch-Out!! Wii, but there is something else about it that reminds me of his NES design. Mac is definitely closer to his NES size than his Wii size, which I think suits the character better. It was a nice choice to make him a ground based fighter, his strong ground game may make up for his weak aerial game. Overall, everything looks great. Hopefully, Punch-Out!! gets a new assist trophy because of this. King Hippo, Bald Bull, Mr. Sandman, and Super Macho Man are the most deserving, but Sakurai may be a Dragon Chan fan, so we will see.

They weren't DVDs, they were Nintendo proprietary optical discs, hence why they won't read on conventional DVD players.

Upgrading to an 8GB card would up the cost by quite a bit and Nintendo would probably fill up a 4GB cart to make as much profit as they can.

They may be the first game to implement an 8GB card but I'm not expecting much.

I'm thinking the cartridge would consist of game files, audio, and some CG movies such as the Reveal Trailers and the Opening Movie.

Considering it's the 3DS, they can heavily compress it compared to the Wii U where they'd want to keep the quality of the movies and music immaculate.

I'd say 4-6GB for the 3DS version while the Wii U Version hits over 12GB.

I'm sure the game can hand 45 characters quite fine and I'd think they're spending most of the development time trying to get the as efficient as possible with the framerate locked and game mechanics down. It shouldn't have really long load times since it's flash compared to optical disc.

I think the Wii U size I gave will be justified because of HD development. Subspace may have taken a lot of space, but I'm sure that the space that would have been SSE would be space taken up by the updated models and textures for the stages and characters.

I do disagree with you about Lucario, though. He had his own entire character arc in Pokémon X and Y, making him incredibly relevant and timely both to Pokémon and Nintendo. It's almost a given that Mega Lucario will be implemented into his move set in Smash 4 (Final Smash?), meaning that there really is no way you can argue that Lucario isn't relevant right now. He just is, and I don't think there's any reason his return threatents Mewtwo's return either.

More than that, though, you must have at least one or two characters you're personally really happy about in Smash, right? Then be happy about them. Why not do that instead of actively hoping for other characters to be cut (and, by extension, their fans to be disappointed, even if you don't actively want that)?

I tend to forget that whole "arc" in X/Y because the story was so awful and that whole thing could have been done with basically any other pokemon that has a mega evolution. Lucario was just used because he has the whole mascot thing going now.

Anyway, it's not that I'm focusing on the negative and I'm not actively hoping for characters to get cut. Honestly I want characters back, so long as, they have completely unique movesets and final smashes. I singled out a lot of the ones who just don't seem to do that, though I guess Lucario was more personal apathy to him more than anything. I also don't see how he threatens Mewtwo's chances at all.I don't care that he's back in the same as I wouldn't care if he was gone.

I don't want people to be disappointed but at the same time it's impossible to make everybody happy. I can say that I'm already unhappy with how Toon Link seems to be unchanged from Brawl, but overjoyed to see Megaman and especially Little Mac as playable characters.

You mean the one who has a major story point in XY and has been a major pokemon mascot for years.

You saying things doesn't make them the popular opinion, or gaf in general.

To be blunt, lucario is popular as all hell and is probably more important than any other pokemon you want in, in the eyes of the pokemon company and fanbase in general . And that's just it, you gonna have to come to terms with that. People en masse like that thing you don't like and the pokemon company is selling to them.

Calm down and stop being so aggressive, at least that's the tone I'm feeling from your post. I never suggested any other pokemon to be in the game over Lucario, sure there are a few I would like with varying reasons why I feel like they would be a good fit but that's something for another time. Like I said before, I don't mind his return and I wouldn't have cried if he was cut. That's all.

I like Lucario because he isn't from Gen One, which is overrepresented in Smash.

They could represent all gens in one go if they made all the pokemon part of the Pokemon Trainer's team. Hoho! Take some of the more popular ones from each Gen and there you go, got a full team with representation from every gen. Though the switch up between each would be annoying. Maybe you could choose three kind of like in Pokemon Stadium and people would always have to keep guessing your team? That'd be interesting.

I'm glad the SSE mode is done. I wonder how Brawl would have been without all that. Maybe I would have had Mewtwo.... :(

That's why I'm pretty confident that we are getting more than what we are expecting to get in SSB4. I heard that they spend too much times on SSE and it's contents since they are not going to do SSE again, so they can focus more on somewhere else.

I really hope that it meant individual target stage each character.

I kinda want more stages and music to choose from. Is it crazy to believe there'll be atleast 50 stages?

Yea. I'm thinking we are going to be fairly surprised at the sheer amount of content (items, characters, stages, extra modes and options), and the quality, aswell.

This may be Sakurai's last game for awhile, too. He's gonna go out in style.

I would like to have more stages that would represent some series that don't have playable characters such as Endless Ocean, Duck Hunt Dog Pond, Golden Sun's Venus Lighthouse, Steel Diver, etc. Music are irrelevant to me but I welcome more music for friends here tho.

Agreed with you there. I'm pretty sure that the games would be his last for long long time. His health situation isn't that simple to heal. I feel for him, I truly do.

I think 50 stages is fairly likely. At the very least 40 in each version. With maybe 5 or so that over lap. We got 3 over lapping stages already.

We think it's lame now, but rewind to 2008 and we thought it was pretty darn cool.

A bump from 26 to 39 characters was massive already, I don't think we would have gotten a much bigger roster.

Brawl was pretty polished minus a few things. I admit it's a good game, but it's not as fun because of the gameplay changes.

If they fixed certain things, I'm sure it would have been much better.

For the music, I don't see any reason why Green Hill Stage, the only Sonic Stage, had 12 SONGS compared other stages who could have benefitted from more music or better music. Especially with Fountain of Dreams being stuck on Green Greens.

They really should add a playlist option where we can choose out of the whole list of music in the game and make a set of music for whatever stage we want.

Bring back some of the better stages like Fountain of Dreams, Poke Floats, Temple, Pokemon Stadiums, Dreamland, Onett, etc. and cut out other stages in favor of new ones like New Pork City and 75m.

I wouldn't mind those stages if not for their ridiculous size, placement, and stage hazards.

Isaac/Matthew's reveal will come soon don't worry.

Their will be hundreds of possible stages with a stage builder. It's also extremely likely that we will be able to download fan-made stages online.

I doubt their will be 50 stages on just the Wii U or 3DS versions (including old stages), though, since the two versions will have a different set of stages to choose from. The Wii U verion may get close to 50, but the 3DS version will probably have 35-45 stages.

Those four plus Pac-Man and Mii.
Oh ok. Still that probably isn't the sum of everything looking up the rumor. The rumor only stated those characters were to be revealed at E3. So far we got Rosalina and a huge likelihood of Palutena in the game so it probably isn't EVERY character. Pac-Man and Mega Man in the same trailer would be too much to be honest so they probably saving Pac-Man's reveal for E3, and if they are he probably isn't some super secret character.

My prediction in combo with this rumor:

Entire Brawl roster (35)
Returning: Mewtwo (1)
Confirmed newcomers: Mega Man, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Little Mic (5)
Others: Mii, Pac-Man, Takamaru (secret character ala ROB and Game & Watch), Chrom, Palutena, Hades/Medusa, Dixie Kong/Cranky Kong (the later if Dixie is a tag in for Diddy Kong), X protagonist, Bayonetta!!! (9)

Total: 50 characters.

Not bad.

Replace Bayonetta with the Wonderful 101. The W101 are actually owned by Nintendo, & Sonic already covers the Sega base for Smash. Not that I hate Bayonetta, I just think it'd over-represent Sega.

Also, I don't think we'll get a Kid Icarus character besides Pit & Palutena or another DK character other than DK himself & Diddy....by himself.

True but I dunno it seems something so out there that it makes sense in a lot of regards. Plus what better way to promote Bayonetta 2 to fans who aren't familiar with it to a game as hugely popular and successful as Smash Bros.?

AS for DK, I dunno man, it's all about promotion. Cranky Kong plays a pretty huge role in the new DK game and people always associate Dixie with Diddy Kong so it makes sense to tag them together for nostalgia purposes.

I want Sakurai to just skip a gen. If that means this is the last smash for 5 or so years, so be it. He can come back swinging on the Wii U and Me Too.

Yea, I agree. I still like Brawl even now. I just wish it could have been, more. Different, and better. I'm glad with how For Wii U is shaping, up.

The main reason people are thinking Diddy/Dixie is because of some false rumors that spread. Dixie would have been revealed yesterday if the pairing, or Dixie alone, was to be a thing.

I'm sure we'll get Diddy next week, but as a solo act like he was in Brawl.

Back to the Platinum rep, the W101 fit the Nintendo mold more....not just because they're owned by Nintendo....& are much more unique, especially if they use every formation of the main team
including Wonder Goggles....hopefully
.

*sigh* Another reminder that Mother 3 will never leave Japan

For some reason I really feel like bayonetta will be playable. She definitely has the moves and is already very stylized she would fit the smash universe pretty well.

Wonderize Red! Unite Drill! My drill will pierce the heavens! Who the hell do you think I am?

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann shit.

Sakurai better add them in to honor the respect Kamiya deserves.

Again, as much as I'd love to have her in the game, Sega is already represented.

If we're gonna have a Platinum rep, the W101 are the best ones for the job.

I agree that she wouldn't be too out of place, but man if they have a bunch of 3rd Party characters, it would feel too much like PlayStation All-Stars, to me. We don't know if Snake is even returning yet, though. Who knows.

Not sure if Unite Drill will be a thing, since the OG Wonder Red retired from the squad.

I unfortunately doubt that. I would love to see Isaac to be in the game but I don't think we will get that.

I'm more likely to not be there for next one, so it don't really matter to me.

Bayonetta in Smash would be a system seller. TW101 would not make a difference. Just look at what happened when Dante finally made it to a fighting game.

Totally agree Wonder red is my dream Newcomer, It's just a gut feeling that the big character reveal at e3 will be Bayonetta.

Believe in GBA VC.

When I saw Earthbound on my Wii U and remembered the GBA announcement earlier that year, it gave me hope. That hope was quickly diminished when I saw the difference in what games will be available in April for US and Japan
