Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

What if Yoshi will have Baby Mario on is back?

Or maybe you can choose between normal Yoshi and choose to put Baby Mario/Luigi/Peach//Donkey Kong/Wario/Bowser on him, each with their peculiarities.from Yoshi's Island DS.

Only if this plays when you have Baby Bowser on your back.

One thing I've been confused about for awhile: why all the vicious Pac-Man hate? Whenever the discussion turns to Pac-Man probably getting in, it's almost always immediately followed by various posts like "god no, anyone but Pac-Man" and "I'll be fine as long as fucking PAC-MAN doesn't get in."

I don't understand. I'm not a giant Pac-Man fan or anything, but what would be so bad about him being in the roster? If you add him, you've arguably got every major, important legacy gaming mascot in one game together (Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man). I think that's pretty neat myself.

I agree with you that having Pac-Man in the game makes perfect sense and that he would be, in many ways, the ideal Namco rep. I just don't like the way he looks--frankly, he's kind of an ugly character in my eyes, and the Ghostly Adventures "revamp" just made matters worse.
I don't care if he makes it in, and I fully expect him to be on the roster (especially in light of 4/6 of salromano's "predictions" coming true), but I will undoubtedly groan a little when I see him in action. :P

Ghostly Adventures Pac Man pisses me off.

That makes two of us, then.

Mac Attack~!

Oh my god, this is fantastic.

I can't speak for everyone here but when I think of the third party characters that were frequently asked for over the years (no matter how unlikely) one guy who almost never seemed to get mentioned is Pac Man.
He doesn't come across as a character people were rooting for, just a character people expected might turn up because of Namco's involvement and being classic mascot character value, seemingly that is what is actually happening. I don't even dislike Pacman, I just think his potential inclusion feels a bit forced, third party characters so far in Smash have brought the hype, Pac Man just doesn't have that same level of excitement and that might go a way to explaining why some people just don't give a damn for his appearance.
And he certainly isn't stopping any other Namco rep that I'd want to see, I don't have anyone who fits that criteria (now Konami on the other hand...).

Now Mii, there's a character that I personally flat out don't want to see in Smash but that's another story and I still think their inclusion is more than justified.

Is it just his new/modern "Ghostly Adventures" redesign people don't like? I mean, yeah, it's a little goofy-looking, but it worked in Street Fighter X Tekken precisely because it was so weird and a little creepy. I can see it working in Smash in much the same capacity. It can't be because he's not "suited to a fighting game" or whatever, because Smash has had/will have plenty of those characters already. So what's the deal?

He's just so unpleasing aesthetically. I'd prefer Mii's over him, and I hate Mii's.

Fut9lon.jpg

I guess I have to replace Dillion with Mii since I completely forget all about Mii. I guess Dillion, Chibi Robo and Wonder Red is on a side team for now. Before people jumped into conclusion, it's unrealistic wish list.

Serious question for everyone, Do game sales would affect characters' chances to be playable characters in the games, such as their last game being bombed?

Don't know if this has been posted yet.

Sorta, but people already got idea tho.

I guess I'm too positive about Smash 4, and not too picky with video games, graphic, etc as I see in Smash Graphic thread. I want to repost what I posted there since I'm concerned that thread might go somewhere.

Warning: I know I might used compressed pictures but I don't want to post 1080 because it might lagging up other people's computers.

I wonder if the opinion that it looks like an uprezed Brawl still floats around.

You should replace that since that stage's visual designs got updated very recently. Yeah, my opinion might not meant much since I'm hardcore smash fan but I'm pleased with the graphic. I'm going to point out many things so be patience with a lot of pictures here.

1. Here is a updated version of Punch Out Stage. (It may not be picture but that's all I can find)

ibcRNr9hm1xkQE.gif

2. The cartoony color vibe that they chose to went with have been working very well. I really enjoy the pop out cartoony colors that I have seen for awhile. It does help the casts to blended together very well since they wouldn't look out of the world when you put them next to other characters as well.

Look at unfair comparison between Playstation All Stars Battle Royal Casts and Super Smash Bros 4 Roster.

super_smash_bros__wii_u_3ds_wallpaper__v_1_9__by_marcos_inu-d6ev9lv.png

3. I really enjoy how they adjusted the battle mechanism, along with colors for it.

4. Look at Characters' attacks or taunts effects since it seem to be much better in Smash 4.

5. Sakurai and his teams did fantastic job with characters' facial expressions. Look at Brawl's facial expressions for some of characters, they might look bland comparing to Smash 4 edition. I can't find other characters comparison but I will use Dedede one since it's in this thread. Look at their face, and you can see the difference.

jvuoWb7.png

He actually sweated when trying to held charged hammer in Smash 4, and I can't tell what he's thinking in Brawl.

Other pictures of expressions that I really enjoyed to look at.

6. CHARACTER MODELS! Look how much they improved their models. They look fantastic in Smash 4.

7. Also they updated items' visuals as well.

Also I would like to point out that Pokeball Pokemon and Assist Trophies look fantastic as well.

8. Don't forget all about our handheld Smash. They went with fantastic art filter and outline system for Smash 3DS to make it pop out very well. I really love how they done for 3DS even it don't get much attention as Wii U did.

9. Oopsy, I forget to mention STAGES! I will let you judge for yourself.

Overall: I'm definitely hyped with the visual graphic that I have been seeing in the game, along with fantastic choices of newcomers (along with their innovation and diverse move sets) and candy eyes stages. I'm glad that they move way from realistic but grainy arts that they went with brawl and go with cartoony vibe style for both system. They look fantastic once again!

Heath those are clearly bull shots.

Lol kidding aside, wouldn't say you're too positive, just that others in that thread have different taste...I think

Looking good to me tho I'm not hard to please lol.

So which reveals are we all expecting next? To me, the list looks like this:

POSSIBLY next week (probably Friday if anything): Diddy
March: Yoshi (for Yoshi's New Island's Japanese release)
April: New veteran (Mii, or maybe someone not on that leaked list?) for the likely April bi-monthly Direct
May: Taking a shot in the dark here, but possibly Meta Knight for Kirby Triple Deluxe's US release?
June (E3): Pac-Man, maybe two more unknown newcomers

With a few random veterans sprinkled throughout the next few months, of course.

What if Yoshi will have Baby Mario on is back?

Or maybe you can choose between normal Yoshi and choose to put Baby Mario/Luigi/Peach//Donkey Kong/Wario/Bowser on him, each with their peculiarities.from Yoshi's Island DS.

I said the same in the past, at this point it's a concrete possibility. Something's definitely up with Yoshi, they had no reason to keep an original starter under wrap for such a long time. I think he was also one of the worst characters in terms of balance, wasn't he? If so he deserved an overhaul for the better.

The green Dino got plenty of screen time in mario kart 8 atlease lol.

He's mediocre in every game, much like Link is below average in every game.

Not many people really enjoy playing the current Yoshi anyway as far as I know. He's got a weird playstyle. I don't think anyone would be opposed to an overhaul of the character. It's just dependent on if Sakurai and their team feels it's worth the effort. They'd already essentially be making a new character by porting over Yoshi's old move set, I guess, so it wouldn't be that much more effort...

BUT I'm not expecting such an overhaul.

I'm going to take a stab at this but I doubt that I will get it right.

Feb 21 - Diddy Kong
March 12 - Jigglypuff or Pokemon Trainer (Pokemon Trozei)
March 14 - Yoshi (More likely to be reveal for Summer)
Mario 20 - Wario/Yoshi (Mario Party 3DS)
March 20 - Snake (MGS5.1 release date)
March 23 - Kid Icarus Uprising release date (I seriously doubt this one will happens)
April Nintendo Direct - Newcomer/3rd Party (Snake, Pac Man, Mii, Palutena, etc)
April 21 - Duck Hunt 30th Anniversary
May 1 - Wario/Diddy/Yoshi but it's more likely to be Peach with Golf Club (Mario Golf 3DS)
May 2 - Metaknight (Kirby Triple Deluxe)
May 29 - Diddy/Wario/Yoshi (Mario Kart 8)
June 11 to 13 - Newcomers and Third Party (ND E3)
Summer - Yoshi (Japanese Release)

I'd say Wario is going to be revealed with Mario Kart 8's release in May, or, if Yoshi isn't revealed for YNI's release, then he also is a candidate for that.

Graphically speaking, yes, it is true the Wii U game isn't the most attractive game ever, but for the purpose it plays, it looks fine. I already stated that character models look great, such as Roaslina and Marth, though some are awful, like Fox, Link and DK.

The game is very colourful and stages like the Pilotwings and Galaxy stage stand out brilliantly, though stages like Skyloft and Pyrosphere need some work doing to them.

As for the 3DS game, the art style is really nice and it does indeed help characters pop. We can't really judge this as 3DS games look 100x better on screen, even Sakurai said he doesn't like to upload 3DS screenshots because they do no justice on a screen other than the 3DS'.

Some of the models on it are brilliant, like Little Mac, Link, Samus etc. etc. but DK still looks off, even though he's been considerably improved in recent builds:

screen-8.jpg

Dkkappn2ff2f2f2daily.jpg

Of course some stages look a bit funny too, such as Arena Ferox which could do with a bit of work and so could the Mario Bros. scrolling (?) stage. But many stages also look damn good on 3DS, such as Rainbow Road and Kid Icarus's stage.

Overall, both games look fine for the hardware they're on, it's not hard to say that they could definitely squeeze more from the Wii U hardware, but it's still too early to say, they're probably going to improve things as time goes along, and the 3DS game is clearly using a fair bit of its power, I.E in the Punch Out stage, I assume the back board takes some power, and rendering that in 3D sure is gonna push the hardware.

Either way, both games look good.

All I really wanted over Brawl is just better colors and models really in the visuals department. They've done that, made it 1080p, improved animations and facial expressions, improved the textures, and added a lot of visual flair with those effects which really look nice. Then I also get to have portable Smash which also looks nice. So I'm satisfied.

Those analysis vids posted are great.

Mac Attack~!
That's cool. Great work!

I personally love the idea of a playable Pac-Man. Nintendo and Namco have always worked well together. I don't get why anyone would argue that Namco doesn't deserve a character - even if they weren't working on Smash development, Namco would be one of the third parties that makes the most sense, right there alongside Capcom, Konami, and Sega. And Pac-Man is easily the character that fits best into Smash, although after Snake I suppose anything is possible. (additionally, if I remember correctly Pac-Man was one of the first, if not the first third party games on the NES.)

I get the general distaste for the TV show Pac-Man. But I have faith enough in Sakurai that if Pac-Man becomes playable he will opt for a more classic design that will do the character justice, just like he has done with Mega Man.

pac3dthumbsup.jpg

I just think his potential inclusion feels a bit forced

Basically sums up my reaction to Snake in Brawl. Really wish we could have a different Konami rep.

Heath, I don't think you're being "too positive": the game looks amazing, and I am equally excited about all of the improvements Sakurai and the team have made thus far. Now let's just hope the soundtrack lives up to Brawl's--or, better yet, surpasses it!

As for predictions, I think it's safe to see we'll see Diddy's return next week for the US release of Tropical Freeze, and Yoshi on March 14th for New Island.
(Also, I find it really strange that we have yet to hear anything about a Japanese release date for the latter title.)

They're lifeless and creepy.

Actually, that's probably the same reason I hate Pacman.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head. The aesthetics just aren't there. Smash 4 is such a pretty game (as Heath pointed out), and I just feel like Mii and Pacman would mess that up. :P

Pac-Man is a better choice than Snake or Bayonetta, that's for sure. My only thing is Paccy just seems boring to me, but I've said the same thing about Little Mac for years and Sakurai has proven me wrong there, so I'm open to being surprised.

I just wish Dragon Quest could find its way into Sm4sh. Series would absolutely fit perfectly in the game. That's about the only thing I want to see now.

I'm going to take a stab at this but I doubt that I will get it right.

Sorry, but I found that mistake really funny :P

Sorry, but I found that mistake really funny :P

Oh noes! I will leave it there just hell out of it. :P

I really like a quote from smash boarder, so I'm going to post it here regard with Snake.

Someone stated this (they brought this notion to my attention) in another thread, but Snake isn't going to be cut as that would be an overt contradiction in his statements. An inherent quality of having no cuts... is having no cuts. So when he stated that, he indirectly implied that Snake was going to return. If he acquired the rights at the time of writing, of course. Needless to say, he did. There is no reason to assume that Snake wasn't included in his 3rd party license acquiring fiasco. He had Mega Man prior to E3 and he presumably had Sonic, again, prior to E3. So it is rational to presume that he also had acquired Snake's rights, thus as there were no cuts, Snake isn't cut.

He's mediocre in every game, much like Link is below average in every game.

Not many people really enjoy playing the current Yoshi anyway as far as I know. He's got a weird playstyle. I don't think anyone would be opposed to an overhaul of the character. They'd already essentially be making a new character by porting over Yoshi's old move set, I guess, so it wouldn't be that much more effort...

BUT I'm not expecting such an overhaul.

Yeah, I agree, he's the only character I didn't ever seriously use in SSB64. From there and on I barely even considered him.

I absolutely don't want him cut (as if that's even a possibility), the more the merrier, though if they made him even more unique and fun to play I'm all for it.

Really? I would think Ghirahim would have a higher chance than Impa.
You think a one-off villain (not even the main villain at that) has a better chance than a series staple? Impa's been in 8 Zelda games and was very significant in Skyward Sword. I love Ghirahim, but I don't think he'd make the cut, and for good reason—he just doesn't deserve it.

Needs more villans.

Hero vs hero is boring
Bowser, King K. Rool, Wario, Ganondorf, Ridley, Wolf, King Dedede, and Mewtwo (and possibly
Robin
, kinda sorta) aren't enough? You're going to see mostly heroes because they're more plentiful than villains, in terms of viability for Smash Bros.

IntelliHeath do you still have that list of names of people asking for Neorice's sprite avatars as characters were confirmed?

The game is very colourful and stages like the Pilotwings and Galaxy stage stand out brilliantly, though stages like Skyloft and Pyrosphere need some work doing to them.

whats wrong with Pyrosphere ?

Ooh, seeing the unconfirmed characters in grayscale on your roster looks pretty good.
I think I'm gonna use that for my roster now. ;P

Serious question for everyone, Do game sales would affect characters' chances to be playable characters in the games, such as their last game being bombed?
I think that good sales can definitely affect the chances of some characters positively (like Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, for example), but I wouldn't say that bad sales would necessarily hurt the chances of a particular character if that character is a strong enough candidate.

At this point, I'm sure it's happening, but I don't care for Pac Man in a Smash game. And characters like Waluigi can kick rocks. Epitome of boring and useless. No matter how cool they look as fighters via Sakurai's magic...

Don't quote me.

whats wrong with Pyrosphere ?
1377092539-smash-bros-for-wii-u-pyrosphere.jpg

That stage looks awesome.

For some reason I get the feeling that Takamaru will be a hidden character, so we may not see him until after the game releases.

But we already have several character reveals that most likely would be unlockable characters. Luigi has been traditionally a hidden character since 64, Marth and Young/Toon Link since Melee, Lucario and Sonic were hidden in Brawl, and I'm pretty sure that Rosalina would be hidden too (since she's never been on any starting roster in any of the spin-offs she appeared in, and also is the secret character in 3D World).

This is the whole reason why I also believe that we might not have secret characters in Smash 4 this time around, or if there are, that it doesn't matter in regards to their reveal.

did they say anything about the online?

since i don't have friends who like playing smash bros (they prefer football and racing games) it would make an huge difference for me.
also, what are the main differences ,aside from graphics, between the 3ds and the wii u version?
because i already have a 3ds but not a wii u (maybe when bayo 2 comes out),so if the 3ds version is similiar enough,I may decide for the portable version.

did they say anything about the online?

Other than they're trying to improve the netcode? Nothing.

also, what are the main differences ,aside from graphics, between the 3ds and the wii u version?

The character roster will remain the same, but there will be version-exclusive stages. Also, apparently the 3DS version will have some sort of customization, but that never really has been expanded upon.

The game is very colourful and stages like the Pilotwings and Galaxy stage stand out brilliantly, though stages like Skyloft and Pyrosphere need some work doing to them.

My only disappointments with these two stages is that they weren't created from scratch. The stages made for the Wii U game all look fucking impressive (Wily Castle, Battlefield, Good Egg Galaxy) or have enough going on to make them look clean and vibrant (Smashville U, Pilotwings), but Skyloft just comes out looking extremely meh. Pyrosphere is better but it's still upsetting getting no Metroid Prime locales, especially when any one of them would destroy Pyrosphere in looks. (My top picks would be Sanctuary Fortress, Elysia, G.F.S Valhalla, or Planet Phaaze)

But we already have several characters that most likely would be hidden revealed. Luigi has been a hidden characters since 64, Marth and Young/Toon Link since Melee, Lucario and Sonic were hidden in Brawl, and I'm pretty sure that Rosalina would be hidden too (since she's never been on any starting roster in any of the spin-offs she appeared in, and also is the secret character in 3D World).
Sakurai made a special note about Luigi, though. Whether he's now a starter character or still a hidden character but what just revealed early for the Year of Luigi is unclear, but Sakurai has given us no reason to believe that other characters like Toon Link, Lucario, or Rosalina & Luma are hidden characters. The fact that they were hidden characters in the last game doesn't mean that they have to be this time around, too. Ness and Captain Falcon were promoted to starter characters in Melee, after all (and went back to being hidden in Brawl, but still).

Besides, assuming hidden characters still exist this time around, why would they reveal hidden characters that aren't third-party this early before release? I'm sure they're going to want to have at least a few surprise hidden newcomers.

With the exception of Snake/Sonic in Brawl (who are a special case for obvious reasons), hidden characters have never been revealed over a year before release.

We'll practically know everything there is to know about characters like Rosalina prior to launch, so what's the reason for locking them away? It seems arbitrary to me. Again, this isn't Melee or Brawl -- there might be hidden characters who are traditionally starters and vice versa, or there might not be hidden characters at all. I just don't see the point in having to unlock a character who has routinely featured in pics of the day over the course of a year. There's no shock or surprise.

Just played Brawl on Wii U and playing with something that isn't a GCN pad feels so awful. How does the Wii U Pro controller feel? Man, I'm going to really miss not having Gamecube controller support when this game hits.
