Haha, that thing. I forgot about the petition. I'd agree, his positivity about that seems like an indication that Mii is probably in.I honestly think that dumb REGGIE IN SMASH petition he keeps pimping at press events is supposed to be leading to a Mii trailer that uses Reggie and a few other Nintendo figures. I can't think of any other reason to keep referencing such a dumb petition that's asking for someone only a fraction of Nintendo's audience even know about, let alone still find the years old memes funny.
I think both TW101 and Bayonetta would be smart inclusions from a marketing standpoint. In TW101's case, enough time will have transpired for the game to have a small (but strong) following, and TW101's inclusion would retroactively market that game to the new people who pick up a WiiU for Smash (and those who get it on the larger 3DS userbase). Bayonetta, meanwhile, already has a strong fanbase, and Nintendo saw fit to rescue her franchise -- one may reason that Nintendo would like their investment to pay off, and there's no better advertising to Nintendo fans than through a Smash Bros. game (see also: renewed Western interest in EarthBound and Kid Icarus; Western interest in Fire Emblem; etc).So I've noticed a lot of discussion of Wonder-Red pop up, alongside discussion of most wanted newcomers... All this made me realize that Wonder-Red (or The Wonderful 100 in general, rather) is my most wanted newcomer. I look a good look through my expected and wanted newcomers, and while I'm excited to see characters like Takamaru, Robin, and Mii, I think I'd be most excited about The Wonderful 100. Now, doubt starts to arise when thinking about how the character would be represented in Smash Bros., but aside from that (Sakurai would make it work somehow), I think it's a very real possibility, and I believe it makes sense.
The Wonderful 100 would translate to Smash Bros. very well, and I believe they'd be an appropriate addition not only for that reason, but also because of the history of their game. Yes, by itself, The Wonderful 101 isn't exactly very noteworthy. I mean, it's an AMAZING game, but when it comes to Nintendo as a whole, it's just not very important. But what's interesting about it is how the game came to be. Originally, Platinum Games wanted to use Nintendo characters in The Wonderful 101. So, instead of having 100 Wonderful Ones, we'd be controlling 100 different Nintendo characters. It would have been a concept not unlike Smash Bros. (Had that original intent been carried out, the game probably would have seen a lot more interest and would have no doubt been more significant to Nintendo, but I believe making original characters was the right way to go.)
With that in mind, I think The Wonderful 100's inclusion would make sense, along with the fact that they're so well suited for Smash Bros. We also know that Sakurai was visiting Platinum Games during the beginning of development for Smash Bros., and it's very possible that Sakurai was visiting Platinum Games for the use of their characters in Smash Bros. Of course, it could just as likely been something entirely unrelated, but still. It also wouldn't surprise me if Sakurai and Kamiya had been in talks long before The Wonderful 101 was unveiled to the public as Project P-100 due to the similarity of Kamyia's original concept of The Wonderful 101 to Smash Bros. Kamiya may have initially reached out to Sakurai about his idea for advice or whatever. I know all of this is just speculation, but my point is that's it's very possible that The Wonderful 100 may have been a consideration for Smash Bros. since before we even knew of the game. After all, Roy was put into Melee before his game was even released. The fact that The Wonderful 101 is fairly recent and not the most significant game to Nintendo may not matter as much as people think. If the developers really want it, it can happen. I mean, that's how we got Snake, after all.
So that's at least three more right there, before we get to the current Fire Emblem rep, and whatever other tricks Sakurai has up his sleeve.
And then you could transfer that data to the WiiU version. The cross-platform customization alluded to by Sakurai. :-OHow awesome would it be if the 3DS version could read your StreetPass data and pull your Avatar from that?
Along the same lines, if that worked you could do the same for your Animal Crossing Villager.
Someone else pointed this out.
Punch-Out! is the name of the game.
Punch In is a pun.
It's great.
All I remember (and maybe I imagined it) is people reading "ROB" and thinking it was referring to the robot of the same name in Star Fox 64.How did SmashGAF respond to the Brawl final roster?
Mii has appeared in quite a few games that would be good for moves. A hang-glider recovery move from Pilotwings Resort? Swords, shields and sorcery from Find Mii? A trombone slide smash attack from Wii Music? Smacking tennis balls from Wii Sports Tennis, which can bounce around the arena? The Final Smash could even reference the Mii Plaza, with a stampede of Miis rushing across the screen -- including every Mii on your 3DS or WiiU system.
Just occurred to me: Sakurai confirmed 25 newcomers and veterans in Brawl prior to the game's release.
We are currently at 23 confirmed newcomers and veterans for SSB4. Chances are we'll go beyond 25 before SSB4 is out. I wonder how far, though.
Incidentally, who is this guy? Talks about verifying who Sal's source was after E3 last year and his name seemed to come up often in regards to the MvsC3 leaks a couple years ago as well.

EDIT: Regarding the Ridley talk... Remember, it doesn't have to be either/or! Ridley can be a stage hazard and a playable character. As a great man once said... "Leave it to me!" - Alfonzo

But it needs more Wonderful Ones.
I can already imagine a pro play video of Little Mac being set to this incredible remix.
IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

That's not what I was getting at, nor is that guy on GameFAQ's Lupinko in the first place. I just mean he seems to come up often in these types of 'leak' situations and was wondering if it was somebody off GAF's GameFAQ's account or something of the sort.Lupinko isn't leaker for SSB4 at all. He only leaked mostly Capcom games (MVC3, UMVC3, SFxT) and Mortal Kombat 9.
Sakurai probably reads this thread since if it's on the internet, and it's Smash related, he knows about it. Especially considering how popular GAF has been getting these past few years. What puzzles me is how Diddy Kong hasn't been revealed yet. Maybe Friday.

Im not sure Sakurai can read english good enough to "benefit" from reading on here. When I tweet him I have to do it in Japanese.
Now that Smash Bros. finally has a "real" fighter with Little Mac, I'm curious -- what general archetypes are left? I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. The bases seem mostly covered.

I think you are underestimating the mental capabilities of a man who develops games for a living, and especially overestimate how difficult it is to learn how to comprehend a language.
I'm not native English myself, but I've always been able to read even complex English constructs once I had a basic grasp of the language. Just because Sakurai might not be able to speak/write English sentences well enough to feel confident without a translator at events doesn't mean that he can't read (or speak) English at all. It's not like we're having some super deep scientific discussions in this thread.

Yeah, I don't think discussions on GAF would be very easy for him to follow. When I met him backstage at Press Start two years ago, his first words to me were "Nice to meet you", but the rest of our conversation was in Japanese, lol.
Oh right, that explains a lot. Was just wondering if it was somebody else people here didn't know about who had sources in the industry.Oh CAW Evolution? That's Ryce's account.

Have you seen the guy talk? It's always Japanese and he has to have a translator at the ready for him. I highly doubt he could read this thread without translating it.

Did he leak any details?
I don't know how I forgot about him when making that post, but yeah, he counts.Beaten. But yeah. Samurai.

Staff user, but Palutena is probably in the game, so we're coveredNow that Smash Bros. finally has a "real" fighter with Little Mac, I'm curious -- what general archetypes are left? I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. The bases seem mostly covered.

A W101 character would be amazing and I would absolutely love it, but I seriously can't think of how to make it work and be faithful to the game.
Just because so many things would have to be happening at once.
