The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

I'm playing Tomb Raider currently, were people upset about the QTEs.. They are kinda bad implemented on this game.

Hmm, while this looks phenomenal, I really hope the game is more than just shooting the shit out of enemies while taking cover. Traversal, puzzle-solving and boss battles need to be in this. RaD showed they can make some pretty kickass boss fights play out of GoS is any indication. Hoping for the best from this game.

Whose got that B-roll?

Something about it seems to remind me of Heavenly Sword, in a way. Style and presentation over substance, early in the new console generation, and lots of hype from an untested developer (in the AAA console space).

I haven't written the game off in any right, but they just haven't shown any reason for me to be excited about it, other than graphics.

Where's the destruction? Where's the crazy weapons? Where's the werewolves? Where's more open areas depicted in the concept art?

Kinda terrible first showing...

now that you mention it we didn't really see anything in terms of gameplay unfolding with this being a dynamic of it... just him falling through some planks.

I don't get why there is so much hate for this game, but to each his own I guess. I think this looks amazing. I wish they had shown more, like some half breeds and I'm curious to see how the physics ties into the gameplay. Being a fan of God Of War, Heavy Rain, Parapa the Rapper ect, I really dont mind QTE's. I also loved Gears, Uncharted, Binary Domain ect, I dont mind it being a cover based shooter. The setting looks great and the lore sounds interesting. I'm curious about what types of things people who are tired of the same ol cover based shooter expect the developers to add to the game to be considered praise worthy for pushing the envelope in terms of gameplay for this gen?

Ryse didn't have the best graphics ever. If you said the Order has the best console graphics ever, that might be true. But you didn't define what you mean by "production values." This won't be as remotely as expensive as GTA5, Bioshock Infinite, and a lot of other stuff. And your points about Gears and Uncharted are still pretty tenuous. Gears of War was notable because of the drop-in coop, which this doesn't have, and Uncharted is HARDLY renowned for its QTEs... it's probably the least remarkable aspect of those games. If that's what The Order is borrowing from it, you might as well have said it's an evolution of God of War.

Again, the game could still be good, but just because everyone isn't going nuts over a pretty average reveal trailer doesn't mean they're trolling. I'm genuinely let down by the trailer, and after reading some previews, I'm more concerned. Even IGN, whose previews usually read like PR piped in directly from the developers/publishers, had less than great things to say about their time with it.

The trailer is not the greatest, aye, but it's easy to see the game's potential. I will make no claim that the gameplay will be revolutionary (notice I used the term "evolution" explicitly) or the greatest ever. My initial post (the one you first responded to) was in response to the first page of this thread which was full of pretty predictable responses from certain people. To be fair, I haven't read the majority of thread where people got into more nuanced detail about their gripes, and I can understand quite a few. So, relax.

The first post was a huge fail. "Revolutionary QTE." Only if you have never played a game with QTE's because branching QTE isn't a new thing at all.

To sum up

THe order QTE= Revolutionary

Ryse QTE= lol garbage easy game

i cant get the videos to load at work, i want to see for myself though

I dunno what it is about the footage but I see a stream of brilliance with extremely discernible blemishes thoughout that just reeks of a lack of polish.

I agree that this footage was rushed into the public's hands. This game needs a lot more time to cook in the oven and a 2014 release date is really looking like a bad idea to me.

It definitely looks like a stunner but it could all be for nothing unless Sony gives RAD some breathing room into 2015.
Yeeeeah, no. Whatever lack of polish you think you see isn't really anything too worrying, at this point. The polish always comes in the final months of development.

It's PS4's visual showcase like Ryse was X1's visual showcase. I'm sure both games will wind up being pretty shallow in the end (we already know for certain Ryse was--didn't stop a bunch of people from enjoying it, however). But in terms of graphics and production values, it whets the players' appetites for what is possible on the new generation of consoles.

This game had a trailer, too. We're talking about the gameplay reveals.
Well that's not what was said, "if you want to debut your new game to the world for the very first time, a simple, concise no frills gameplay demo does wonders. (see: TLOU)" TLOU was shown to world for the very first time with a teaser trailer, just like how this game was.

Totally understand people who are disappointed or bothered by the trailer. They should have shown more.

I do not get people who use that to say the game looks boring, crappy, uninspired, or unimpressive. To me it's more "looks promising, but I'll need more info before I decide."

After watching the unedited broll footage on youtube (posted last page), I really dig how you get to interact (rotate, yaw) the weapon when it gets revealed after they open the crate. It's a nice touch. Gives the the weapon a bit more personality. Can't wait to see some of the more extreme steampunk designs.

Is it only me that thinks the visuals are terribad?

Doll looking hair
Plastic cloth
Bad lighting

I hope it will be improved a lot in the final version.

It's only you.
Neither has it doll looking hair, nor plastic cloth. The lighting looks very good.
This game looks like playable CGI.

i got what i expected. they can never just show you uncut gameplay unless it's e3 i guess.

for what we got though, it looks really good.

I hope there's a pretty nice mix of those QTE segments. It looked pretty damn good. Shooting part didn't show enough to be excited about, but that was just a tiny snippet of gameplay, so way too early to get a read on it. I feel I have a pretty good idea of where they're going with the QTE, however. It can give the game an element that not many other cover based third person shooters possess, and I hope they take full advantage of that.

And, in anticipation of the "QTEs suck" crowd, QTE can be quite an effective tool at bringing a very cool and interesting dynamic to a game that may not otherwise exist in any other form. Done well, it adds to the game and makes it more fun to play and experience. It helps tell the story, it helps in getting the message across more effectively as to what the characters are capable of, and it gives the player a chance to feel awesome, like they have a real part in these scenes. It's a hell of a lot better than all the cool shit taking place only in cutscenes that you have absolutely no control over. They're going for something very cinematic, and obviously I'm not saying you can't be cinematic without QTE, but the QTE, if done right, are a bonus to the storytelling of the game. There's still much more of the shooting gameplay to be shown, but based on the debut trailer for this game, and with the artistic and cultural setting they're aiming for, it just makes a lot of sense that there would be more than meets the eye to the skill of the characters, and I don't mind seeing that be shown off in some flashy QTE segments. In fact, I welcome it as opposed to a pure shooter with no such QTE or other interesting element to spice things up a bit.

The issue is that those QTE sections, if not used with restraint, can quickly wear on the player and lose what makes them special. To reveal the game with that section being a focus and this "branching melee" system being a talking point tells me there will probably be a number of these kinds of fight/struggle scenes in the game. That would be fine if it was like The Last of Us gameplay reveal where we saw a significant amount of seemingly unscripted hand to hand combat, but that's not the case here. And yes, I know we have barely seen anything of the game, but I still think it can be cause for concern.

Am i missing something?

It was basically uncharted with moustaches.

Graphics were impressive. Gameplay was the same 'cinematic' stuff we've seen before, complete with low framerate and qte's

Very impressible visually.

What's the chances we get a Gamersyde version of the video ?, Youtube absolutely kills next gen game quality.

I don't think anybody is upset. They just aren't excited by this trend in gaming. It's fine if you think this sort of thing is the queen's tits but I don't.

Then why are you doing in this thread then, just to shit on it?

Seems alot of xbox dudes (not saying you are) are salty as hell and have been invading every thread and article about this game just to shit on it.

I get that not everyone likes QTE and third person shooters but we haven't really seen anything yet besides a couple of minutes of cinematics and several seconds of gameplay, not nearly enough to come to any conclusions on how the game will be.

All we know is that this will be a story driven game with lore, and that it will look great (still plenty of time to polish).

Well, I hope Ready at Dawn can at least tell a good story with The Order. The setting and characters seems pretty cool.

Can someone tell me why Sony is treating this game like it's the latest from Bungie or Blizzard or Bioware and not a new IP from some (relatively) unproven developer that made its name on other developers' properties? They have whipped together trailers with fancy logos and cutscenes like we're supposed to know what it is before they even show us. It's like they're trying to sell the IP before they even have a game.

New IP should be unveiled gameplay first. End of story. Yes today we're seeing pretty graphics but we still don't know the first thing about the game. And then you listen to interviews with Ru and HE sounds like he doesn't know what his game is. And would it kill journalists to ask some questions about the actual game?

Right now my faith in this game is all based on Sony's track record. I have not played a Ready at Dawn game. So until I see otherwise, this whole thing smacks of beautiful technology and story in search of a game.

Exactly my thoughts, and the particular gunplay showed didn't look all that exciting.

Its a very nice looking game though.

Issues will be addressed.

People should give the devs a break, after all we have seen next to nothing of this game, People need a dose of reality. It's the same as Titanfall, all hyped up / down before anyone even played it. Get a grip, seriously.

Titanfall was playable to the press at E3. And then playable for attendees at PAX, Gamescom, etc. Titanfall's hype came explicity because people had actually played it.
