This obsession with ambition is really something I'm growing tired of.Decent graphics but that gameplay doesn't look good at all. It's the same thing we have seen million times over and what looks like not much more. With some basic QTE's thrown in it feels like I have already seen this so many times during the last generastion. A shame really.
Quite frankly, I'm much more interested in high quality, highly polished takes on old ideas. Few games truly execute everything to perfection so working to refine what already exists can result in some really incredible experiences.
The Last of Us, horrible performance issues aside, was well loved for this very reason. It did nothing new, but it was a remarkable experience.
The Order seems to be focusing on refining an existing genre while offering some unique ideas and a pretty original setting for a shooter. That might be enough.
When the SNES was introduced on the heels of the NES most games created for the system were evolution of previous ideas and are remembered very fondly as a result. Super Mario World is more Mario, but I think it's better than everything that preceded it yet it could never have existed without those games. Refining gameplay is often better than trying to deliver totally new ideas every time as many of those ideas often fall flat.
We have enough games in development to allow for these types of experiences. We don't need every developer trying to define the gaming industry.
