The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

IGN sees a trailer of Titanfall and day one, without playing it, calls it the best thing they've ever seen. IGN sees The Order and has mixed feelings. It's a freakin' action game that looks like a Gears clone for PS. Is it because it's not Microsoft?

Well, so far from what we have seen of the Order, the action seems confounded to small spaces unlike Gears, which has large battles time to time. Until we see some more action and sequences, we can't really assume things.

Worth quoting for those who are still assuming the game will be all shoot-shoot bang-bang based on the footage.

Based on footage how could anyone think this game is only shoot shoot gang bang? It barely has shooting. It is cool that this game seems to be adventure fist and shooty shoot next. I would definately want to see some sbp and monster action.

I've watched some TitanFall on Twitch now and it looks just like Call of Duty to me, just don't see the interest.

Don't know if posted yet or not, but here are some bigger screenshots from the trailer. I also have them in larger format (5mb+ each) if anyone needs them.

I don't get the somewhat mixed reactions, this looks friggin fantastic, and the guns look like they got a nice heavy feel to them.

I'm stoked.

Looks incredible.

As for gameplay, maybe it's because I haven't actually played a shit ton of 3rd person shooters this generation (first person also), that I'm not suffering from "genre fatigue" like some people are? I mean, as far as 3pses go, I've really only played Uncharted, inFAMOUS, and a smidgeon of Gears of War. I also don't hate QTEs, so that's not a problem for me either.

This game is definitely remaining high on my must buy list.

How about TitanFall is genuinely exciting to watch and is a rather fresh take on a stale genre, and The Order, while amazing looking, seems to add absolutely nothing of substance to another stale genre?
I don't care about TitanFall (I don't play shooters, especially multiplayer, and technically it's quite bad), and I was truly intrigued by The Order. After seeing the various videos today, I'm still very interesting in the setting and obviously in the graphics, but in terms of gameplay it just seems to be "me too" and nothing more. So yeah, it's a big disappointment for me.

Looking at those screenshots, it looks every bit as good as the reveal trailer.

Personally, I am genuinely surprised that people expected much different from the gameplay in the order. I mean what they said was it was a TPS with only SP. They said there would be some environmental destruction there, and I am surprised they showed nothing of that. Aside from the setting, they do need something to differentiate it from the pact.

Finally watched the trailer and I'm hoping this game isn't all QTE like Ryse seems (haven't played it). I don't mind QTE here and there but all the time and eh I'll wait for PS+.

The actual gameplay looks pretty bland. And while the graphics are fine, it seems to run at 20FPS. I certainly do not get any urge to play that thing - in the worst case, it ends up being one of these "cinematic experience" which fail as a game, like TLOU etc.

Whoever edited this did a horrible job... doesn't give the viewer enough time to get "into" it with all those mid-gameplay cuts.

I don't plan on buying an Xbone for a long time, if ever, and plan to get a PS4 by the end of the year, but this is a bad comparison. The Titanfall videos even from the beginning showed that at the very least it was putting a pretty major spin on the competitive FPS genre, and it had a unique hook. Also, most EVERY site had praise for Titanfall, not just IGN.

The Order has a somewhat cool setting (although it's been all gloom so far and tons of alleyways), but other that that, what is immediately apparent about the game that distinguishes it from games of a similar ilk? I'm actually GLAD Colin what's his name was honest and said it seems somewhat generic because at least it shows that people here who are skeptical aren't trolling (as has been implied numerous times in this thread).

well i guess is too hard not to hate on Titanfall on every single thread, even on one that talk about a tps on ps4, but ok lol

and the article saying that it was good came out only when the game became playable later

Maybe Titanfall's first showing was a lot better than The Order's today?

That first Titanfall gameplay at E3 last year was pretty exciting and cool looking from a gameplay perspective. While this The Order video sure wasn't.

and you might wanna know that Titanfall was showed in a playable form at E3, so yeah

1) I was addressing a single point, and doubt I've talked about Titanfall in a long time.

2) No idea what your 2nd point is for.

This looks like a movie that pauses automatically and you have to hit the play button to keep watching, why is anyone interested in this? Seriously, cutscene, QTE, cutscene, QTE, lazy cover based shooting, cutscene. Literally the majority of that gameplay video wasn't gameplay, lawdy.

It looks really good. Like really, really good. The lighting is freaking fantastic.

You mean this trailer and gameplay reveal?

Respawn certainly did a better job than RAD for their first showing.

1) This is silly.

2) Titanfall's gameplay trailer looked tons more fun than this game's little snippet. Titanfall put it out there for all to see while RaD is playing coy. Come on now. Hell, I suck and don't really play FPS and I tried the Titanfall beta and had a fucking BLAST.

3) Would you have made this post if Titanfall was on PS4 too? Probably not.

LOL 15 seconds of gameplay and the worst case scenario is it fails as a game... Like arguably the best game released last year?

I don't understand how you can say TLOU fails as a game. I understand this argument with beyond or heavy rain but seriously this is getting so annoying.

If it ends up being like TLOU then thats fine.

People were interested b/c of the first trailer. Fairly sure a lot of people are upset of the QTE's from reading over this thread.

I don't care that it's a TPS, I just don't like the idea of how many QTE's they showed in that first trailer.

I was just responding to the dismissive 'it's just another TPS' and 'Gears clone' comments that have been made based on this footage. And a lot of people do seem to think this game is going to be shooty shooty first over adventuring based on some of the stuff I've read in here and the other Order threads that have gone up in the last day.

And yeah, I wish we could see some of the monsters in action, it'll be interesting to see how their designs fit into the overall aesthetic. In fact, I wish we could just see more of the game in action in general - I hope Sony/RAD show us more between now and the next E3. I'm pretty sure Demonite has mentioned that there is more footage of the Order, but it depends when and if Sony want to show it.

Is that it? Youtube quality was shit and as mentioned already, there was like a minute of gameplay. Totally ruined all hype from the gifs.

Yeah i don't like the many cutscenes. They are unimmersive imo. I don't mind good QTE and i certainly don't mind good cover based TP shooters.
In fact, i prefer third person cover based shooters over FPS.

So now i hope there is less cutscene and a whole lot of surprisingly good gameplay.

We wait.

Man, imagine if Derrick was here during all this. We've seen a lot of undeserved (and some deserved) negativity today, but my GOODNESS, Derrick is on another level.

geez those graphics look nice...the textures! best looking next gen game so far?

From what we've seen, I would say it definitely is. Incredibly good looking game.

Graphics are next-level, but everything else looks like corridor-shooter:the game. Hopefully their are more open areas because its lookin real boring right now.

Boy the film grain overlay looks like shit in the HQ pics, such a cheapening PS2 era parlor trick. Hope they include an option to turn off.

First impressions are a big deal for us Gaffers. Luckily they're only first impressions. Here are some reactions from the first gameplay reveal of The Last of Us at E3 2012.

My favorite part was the cover shooting and heavily scripted gameplay sequences with minimal input required.

Man was that scripted as fuck. Hoping it's a little bit more open than what was shown.

Is it just me or does it seem incredibly linear and scripted?

That was way too scripted especially with the unavoidable hits.

It's hard to tell how much freedom you actually have in terms of playing the game.. it's kinda worrying.

Graphics are really amazing but I'm not sold on the gameplay. It's your regular QTE-fest, mixed with some RE. Or did I miss something?

Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad, but I've played that zillion times now :/

I can't really make a judgement on the game based on this "demo". Graphically, the game looks great. But everything looks scripted.

A health bar and ammo indicator? A little ham-fisted for a game that puts so much emphasis on cinematic immersion etc etc.

Looks drab and unimpressive. I literally fast forwarded through most of the 3 minutes of gameplay because I just didn't care. Also plays just like another shooter I guess, how innovative.

it's a real shame that naughty dog feel they have to make cover shooter murder simulators

It just looked like Unlcharted with different characters and even more scripting. I fail to see what was so spectacular.

Game looked cool but I'm weary. It was basically Uncharted in a new situation and with an inventory system.

I thought ND were going to try something genuinely new with this but clearly I was way off with that prediction.

this kind of RE4 gameplay has grown so big, it's like the new FPS. Getting tedious now

Hahaha it's hilarious how closely that mirrors this. People are so quick to judge something it's insane, especially in The Order's case where next to NOTHING was shown.

Every game with shit framerate fails as a game. It's as simple as that.

The game looks great and even though it doesn't introduce anything new to TPS, I really don't mind. Honestly, what can people expect nowadays? You can't expect every game to introduce a new type of style to play or like some new momentous change in a genre. Sony is all about bringing quality story telling and cinematic games now with The Last of Us and Uncharted. They don't want people to believe they changed certain genres. Plus, Sony didn't really have many TPS last gen besides Uncharted if you can even call Uncharted a TPS.

I'd love to question who made the call on showing what they did as their reveal. Just seems silly on all levels.

And those impressions were pretty true at the time. That E3 demo was very scripted and a lot of the stuff in it isn't in the final game.

We can only judge a game based on what they show us and what they Showed of The Order today was pretty disappointing to a lot of people. Doesn't mean I don't hope they turn it around and show me something amazing next time. But until they do I'm judging it based off of what I'm shown.

That's what you release media for. We're supposed to judge it, and get hyped, and piss ourselves talking about pre-orders and doing frame by frame analysis.

That's how this has always worked.

I don't understand how judging this game to be a GOTY contender is OK, but losing some hype because of a lack of any significant gameplay is seen as crazypants. You have to take the good with the bad and just let people have their first impressions.
