The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

Ahh quote spam
the cutscenes looked really good and the covershootbang bits had ugly wall textures and stuff looked more like a regular game and less like cgi

But hey jump on me for harshing your hype buzz, carry on

It's not about harshing buzz (at least not for me) but it's kind of silly to actually put things like a flat wall texture out there as primary criticism and not acknowledge the amazing animation or physics. This cloth stuff is really groundbreaking. It's rare to see. I think, deserves acknowledgement. The lighting and models... it's incredibly impressive.

Why every company isn't copying Rockstar's style of trailers is beyond me. They are pretty, informative, shows off the game (and gameplay) and creates massive hype. Blows my mind why this isn't the to method for showing off your games.

This. DO THIS. http://youtu.be/N-xHcvug3WI It freakin' sells itself!

Sony's marketing is pathetic.

Because it has about as much atmosphere as a shoping channel commercial?? And when atmosphere is a big element of your game it doesn't work all that well now does it. Great if you're an open world game with lots of menial tasks to do and explain. Not so great if you're not.

Looks nice to me, incredibly cinematic, different. Have to try it to see how such a lively camera feels when playing, got a bit claustrophobic feel from the video. HUD looks great.

Can't say much from that amount of footage.

seemed like their purpose might have been to show that the there was little to no drop in graphical quality between cutscene and gameplay transitions?

backfired a little with the gameplay purists :\
Than they probably should have focused on showing the graphics. Trying to talk up the qte moment didn't do them any favors

Well, most companies don't have games that look that good with that much variety or gameplay to show off. Not too mention, calling Sony's marketing pathetic is a bit harsh since most gamer's want to see nothing but gameplay, and that's what they showed us for this game.

No, calling Sony's marketing pathetic is pretty apt. Has been for years. People are excited for their stuff but they never manage to show them off correctly with few exceptions.

Even if you don't offer as much as GTAV, the style of trailer can work for any game of any type anywhere.

Between people bashing this and people bashing Titanfall... Do any of you have fun playing video games anymore?

Yeah, it's almost like these things released by companies solely to allow gamers to form an initial impression of a game are causing gamers to form an initial impression of a game.

I'm not one to bitch about this kind of stuff, but does Titanfall have to be brought up in every single fucking PlayStation 4 game thread? The inFAMOUS: Second Son details thread also had Titanfall mentioned over, and over, and over again.

I don't have a problem with TF, and thinks it looks pretty cool (just not my cup of tea), but god damn, it's like all everyone talks about, in particular in PS4 game threads. YES, I've seen Titanfall. Enough already! /half-serious rant.

When it comes to gaming and originality, that is low priority to how fun and enjoyable the game is for me, personally. I don't need every game to reinvent the gaming wheel, and sometimes, I just want a fun game. Third person shooters are hardly as rampant as FPSes, but even moreso, gothic Steampunk themed games are also in short supply. The theme and setting of The Order is incredibly intriguing to me. The originality/generic argument feels incredibly subjective, not to mention biased, in that usually the game having that criticism thrown at it is in a genre with a much more popular game that doesn't suffer from the same criticism, even when it's not the originator of the genre.

After playing something like The Last of Us, a linear, cinematic, third person shooter set in Victorian London with a supernatural bent sounds fuckity fuck awesome. Not every game needs to be a sprawling open world full of procedurally generated content to be good. I love those games as well, but it's clear RaD has a vision for this game, and it's shaping up rather nicely.

I admit I don't know much about Titanfall (since I don't follow games I have no interest in), but the little bit I've seen of it from a gameplay trailer looks pretty fun, especially for people that like competitive multi-player (I'm not a fan of MP, to be honest). I don't think it's particularly original or breaking new ground just because it has mechs, but I don't see why it needs to be as long as it's fun.

First impressions are a big deal for us Gaffers. Luckily they're only first impressions. Here are some reactions from the first gameplay reveal of The Last of Us at E3 2012.

Thank you for that. I was saying that earlier. The initial knee jerk reaction to The Last of Us was nearly identical to this. A bunch of people going way overboard with the generalization of how the game will be or trying to make a final judgement based on .000000001% of the product being shown.

Been told you guys will be waiting a little while. Full gameplay reveal at E3.

Fully expected. This was just a small tease to let people know last E3 was not a CG movie trailer lol.

Hey, could you possibly try and find out if these videos will be uploaded onto PSN? I love watching videos on PSN at full HD. I don't know how many times I have sat back and kicked on the 3 amazing Destiny videos up on PSN and just gawked at the whole thing.

It's just so amazing the totality of the package they've put together visually. And I actually like the way the game looks at the 2.40:1 ratio, whether it was used to up the technical might or not. Since it's all native, it still looks super crisp, but there is something to be said about the way the action plays out at that size.

This is the type of game I'll pick up and probably enjoy as a visual feast for my eyes even if I don't buy into the gameplay in the end. Although I'll wager I'll know more about how much I should anticipate once we find out about the destruction.

Good to know. I'm sure they'll manage to do better by then.

Until then I'm going to assume the point of the trailer was this:
seemed like their purpose might have been to show that the there was little to no drop in graphical quality between cutscene and gameplay transitions?

So, basically (basically awesome):

Gotta admit, my gut kept giving me Max Payne 3 vibes watching this footage. I know that probably sounds weird, but I mean it in terms of cinematic approach.

Choice quote from him: "I've got to say, I don't know if I'm excited or not." Well... then I'd say that trailer basically failed, which is what a good chunk of people here have been saying.

And people can bring up TLOU's reveal all they want, but the overwhelming majority of people were instantly pumped for that game. I don't care what a dozen or two people on GAF said, I distinctly remember the general excitement for it.

Oh I agree. Really bad gameplay reveal for this game. If they weren't ready to bring the big guns, then they shouldn't show gameplay until they are. It needs to make a big impression on people.

People complaining of gameplay? There is enough footage to understand the style of gameplay and what they are trying to achieve. If your expecting fast action packed pace around the clock then this game is probably not for you.

Use your brain a bit. Too many kids around GAF these days.

Thank you for that. I was saying that earlier. The initial knee jerk reaction to The Last of Us was nearly identical to this. A bunch of people going way overboard with the generalization of how the game will be or trying to make a final judgement based on .000000001% of the product being shown.

No, it was not identical. Go through that whole thread and see what percentage of people were let down by TLOU's reveal (the one that included gameplay footage) compared to The Order so far.

Been told you guys will be waiting a little while. Full gameplay reveal at E3.

That's pretty interesting. The game was announced last E3 right? That's like..."hey check out this game! stay tuned until next E3 for a full gameplay reveal!"

Dunno, just seems weird to me. I'm sure others have done the same though.
FFXV.

And that is all just from this page based on 15 seconds of gameplay. I am willing to admit that perhaps it was a poor choice of trailer for a gameplay reveal, but come on. View it this way, the stuff we saw today was more to prove the graphics at E3 were not CG. Nothing more nothing less. You know nothing more about the game then that today. You don't know that it is boring, a QTE fest, shoot bang, corridor shooter yet. It is impossible to draw those conclusions at this point.

So what... exactly? Are you supposed to ignore it, are people not allowed to comment? And why is it if you get a positive view of those "15 seconds" it is acceptable? Don't see you quoting people saying its the best thing since sliced bread telling them to stop jumping to conclusions.

Very odd, positive stuff is all good, negative stuff... wait until the game is out FFS or for 15 minutes of footage at least.

I didn't follow rumors or anything leading up to this, so this is the first I've seen that it is a third person shooter. I think visually it looks great, but I am so tired of third person shooters at this point. Especially ones that rely on a cover-based system. I hope it offers something unique in gameplay.

No, it doesn't need multiplayer, but a TPS such as this seems like it would be perfect with a competitive multiplayer mode. RAD did say they want to focus on the single player mode to make it amazing, but the few seconds of gameplay we've seen looks far from amazing, GAMEPLAY wise. Graphics are nice, but looks like your standard TPS. Will need to see more but this gameplay trailer was not a good way to unveil the gameplay.
Well if the gameplay doesn't look amazing then how would it lend itself to multiplayer?

Been told you guys will be waiting a little while. Full gameplay reveal at E3.

That would be a good thing, given how bad the marketing was around today's reveal.

If RAD is not ready for full gameplay reveal at E3, better to wait for Gamescom or TGS and do it correctly.

No, it was not identical. Go through that whole thread and see what percentage of people were let down by TLOU's reveal (the one that included gameplay footage) compared to The Order so far.

2 farts are not identical either, but they both are still farts.

Whether TLOU had a 60/40 ratio or it had a 70/30 or whatever, what I mean is when people are knee jerking, it was exactly the same type of thing.

Too scripted
Looks like your typical shooter
looked like a movie not a game

Yadda yadda. Same type of thing. I mean the comparisons to Ryse and Heavy Rain and absolutely hilarious considering we saw a single button press on a single combat sequence and that single button press was the only interaction seen. Was not like you were moving the stick around to make your character strike like Heavy Rain, or there was combo button presses like GoW. Just a single button hit.

But because of that single button hit, the game is a Heavy Rain or Ryse clone. Because we only saw a fight inside an alleyway, the game is now a corridor shooter ( ignoring the E3 trailer in a wide open city square ). Because of a few cinematics showcasing the best graphics engine yet seen .. the game is just a long interactive movie.

Same thing.

I honestly don't get why people keep saying this when that two minute video is what the developer/publisher specifically chose to put out there for people to judge.

The gameplay isn't even 2 minutes, it's like 10 seconds. If you're just counting the shooting section. He shoots like 2 guys and that is the entirity of it. What is shown is certainly uninteresting, it is just the standard go into cover and shoot a guy, but when that very little section of gameplay is all that is shown, it is very hard to actually get a sense of how the game will actually play. It's that lack of context from people. How 10 seconds of gameplay footage is enough for them to judge the entire game is beyond me. Which itself isn't even finished.

It's so short that it is like judging a character running on screen and nothing more. How can you judge a game based on that? Well you can't it's just a character running on screen. In the actual footage the character runs to some cover and shoots a guy. It could be that the whole game is just running into cover and shooting the same guy over and over again in the same fashion in the most uninteresting monotonous game ever. It's fairly unlikely however, what was shown is anywhere near the most interesting aspect of gameplay in the game. :p

Understand the sentiment about nothing standing out in the gameplay segments but am curious what games have been released or shown that people consider to have "next-gen gameplay"

This is something I have been curious about too. It is a TPS. Surely you would expect that actual shooting would take place in a TPS. How would you make shooting a gun more next-gen than simply just going into cover and shooting a gun? What amazing new mechanic would you need to make that gun shooting next-gen?

Not that I wouldn't want something interesting a new. I imagine it would be very difficult to come with something that hasn't been done before though.

Wow, that game looked fucking gorgeous. Now I can see what they were going for with that resolution.

Gameplay looked pretty standard though from the short snippet that we saw. Definitely need to see more of that.

That scene was so awesome. It is too bad you have to wait through a literally 6 minute cutscene every time to play it...

Is there any Max Payne 3 mods out that is just pure gameplay scenarios?
