Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

They can still mess with the proportions as needed. Ridley's design is never consistent between games (save for Meta Ridley, who gets a Phazon related makeover in 3 anyway) so most design changes wouldn't stick out too badly. I'm personally hoping they go with a composite design. (say, zero mission colors, blank eyes [pupils are for chumps] and close-to-brawl proportions)

Hmm yeah that can work actually. I haven't played all of the Metroid games but I am familiar with some of his designs. Zero Mission seemed like one of the best.

Little mac is FINE. I'm glad they kept him asian-ish. Asian kids need more positive role models, real or virtual.

At least I'm assuming he's a positive role model. I've never played his games.

This should be the starting point when discussing ways of making Ridley feasible in Smash. They could do more alterations but that model used in Melee is built like a larger Pit.

Anyone find strange the lack of Little Mac shots ?

Not really. As was said before; the reveal trailer and initial potd shots both were 2 pics a piece and we learned a ton about his moveset, plus a boxer is fairly straight forward. I would like full disclosure on his OHKO upper though

I'm just tuning in today so sorry if it seems like I'm missing some of the discussion... But Asian? Little Mac?

I can see Latino, African American, Indian, or even Middle Eastern, but he doesn't look Asian unless you include Phillippino or Japanese anime

Hasn't little Mac always supposed to have been american? They just gave him a tan in punch out! Wii

I have a question to hopefully generate some discussion up in here:

When Smash releases on either/both consoles, are you still going to take part in the SmashGaf thread in a similar amount as you do currently?

Aside from the obvious "Nope, I'll be playing the game!" answers, I'm wondering if you guys would be willing to risk the rest of everyone here spoil the game for you. One of the best parts of Smash Bros. to me has been playing the game willy-nilly and unlocking characters/stages/everything else randomly. I'd be a bit bummed out if I jumped into the thread the day the game(s) came out and accidentally read how to unlock Wolf, for example.

And yes... Wolf will return

Game like this, I honestly have zero problem with spoilers. If I could learn every character/stage/item now I would.

What will be today's pic of the day

Oh just noticed who your avatar was. Good choice and since sakurai was poking fun at sizes, Probably little mac and rosalina.

Of course but I'll be too busy playing to post for the first frew days....then I comeback for some online action. :D

I would love if the game came with all the stages and all the characters unlocked from start.

give trophies and cds as prizes and everything is fine

I regret finding out about everything Brawl had unlocked back in January 2008. Definitely will do my very best not to find out about anything I don't unlock myself once the game releases. May God help me if they don't make it a worldwide release.

I'd be bummed out about that haha. Some of my favourite memories have been unlocking Mewtwo in Melee (I had no idea he was even in the game, so when fought him and unlocked him I went into freakout mode) and getting the Luigi's Mansion stage in Brawl (not quite as exciting knowing that it existed, but no less satisfying once I had it!)

Right, but would you want to be told right away (if you could) on how to unlock it all?

Honestly, I play as much as possible trying to figure everything out by myself. So I'll probably ignore the boards for the first day or so and then come back when either I've unlocked enough to not be spoiled or learn what I need to do for certain unlocks

With Little Mac playable, I really hope Glass Joe replaces him as an assist trophy. Everybody can just wail on him, and whoever knocks him out gets some sort of reward.

Right. I always thought this screenshot was a good representation of how Ridley should look/feel in Smash:

I'm used to just having characters and such to begin with in other games, so I'd be fine with it unless there was some kind of penalty. That said, I can't remember the last time I wasn't in some way spoiled about a game, so it might be cool to go in blind.

I say this like I'm going to be able to pull myself away from character announcements

On the fence. On one hand it always ends up being a pain in the ass unlocking my main Marth, so if he is a starter then whatever but on the other, I have fond memories of challengers approaching and not knowing what to expect.

Alas; I WILL HAVE NO WILL

I love unlocking things, especially characters, so I definitely hope they don't pull the whole "everyone is unlocked from the start" thing that a lot of fighters do nowadays.

On the other hand, though, I hope they have some kinda separate "tournament play" mode that automatically unlocks every character and stage just for that mode so that tourny organizers don't have to worry about it.

I feel like that is way too small for Ridley. They can make him fairly large without too much trouble just by making him pose more or less how he usually does. Here's a little pic I threw together a while back:
RidleySize_zps6419c259.png

He can stay crouched down while on the ground, keeping him fairly small, hitbox-wise, and having more defensive attacks. In the air, on the other hand, he would spread himself out with a larger hitbox and huge attacks, making him dangerous but much easier to hit as well. It would be an interesting playstyle to be sure.

in celebration of a new Donkey Kong game being released this week, here's Donkey Kong getting murdered in hilarious fashion

I'm pretty certain there will be unlockable characters. The whole "challenger is Approaching" thing is too much of a staple for them to remove that aspect of the game.

Ridley is Dragon American.

Little Mac is Burger American.

This shop has always struck me as unacceptably small.

You could maybe bump him up a tad, but I like the form and sense of movement/personality. Wings are a good size, especially if they're folded aside from the occasional flap or burst of speed, the body gives a good, recognizable hitbox, tail is thin enough to not be confused as being part of the hitbox, etc.

Most importantly, I think it's clear that he looks and feels viable in the context of a Smash fight. I don't think size is an issue.

I think Ridley's size is now less of an issue than Nintendo having any legitimate reason for considering putting him in the game.

Metroid is dead.

Metroid is dead.
Prime Trilogy came out only five years ago, and Fusion was recently confirmed as being a headliner for the Wii U GBA VC. To declare Metroid dead is a bit premature, don't you think?

OOOH Smashboards lol

"If I was making SSB (and I hope to do that one day), I'd jam pack it with as much as the game could hold. 60+ characters, 50+ AT, all stages from 64 - Wii U and the games after it, and almost 2000 trophies spanning ALL of Nintendo's gaming history leaving no stone unturned. I would make it the greatest SSB of all.

EDIT: And costumes for each character."

I frankly think we won't get any more characters for the remainder of the week, and I wouldn't be surprised if that extends to the rest of February. We've been spoiled rotten as of late :P
