I always loved the theory that Gastly -> Haunter -> Gengar is a ghost slowing materializing into our world.

I always thought it was supposed to represent gas condensing into a solid. Compare the massive increase in weight from Haunter to Gengar and the shapes (Shapeless->Starts forming hands and smile and spines ->Evil Clefairy). There's a popular theory Gengar was originally intended to be a shapeshifter with a variety of forms, with only the Clefairy one (Clefairy was originally going to be Pokemon's mascot) surviving to completion.

They save so often I think it's worth the risk.

The real risk is it happening when the streamer is asleep and then we overwrite the save again. Then we're looking at hours of downtime. I don't know how many save states he keeps, but if he was away long enough to exhaust those, it's a complete poof.

I think it's just the one. It always says something like "save state 1" or whatever.

I have a problem.

Because of the stream, I feel the urge to play pokemon again...

I intended to wait for a "pokemon Z"... Is there any news about one? Or should I resort to X or Y?

It's not, the program makes a backup of the save state and gives it another name. It's simpler (and safer) then relying on cycling the save state slots (of which there are only 9) available to the emulator.

Finding myself in the same boat. Haven't had a Pokemon interest in years and now getting the itch to try a 3DS version.

In that case, a reset/save file overwrite while he's away would be the end of everything.

Again, it's not just a single save state. The emulator saves to one slot while a script backs up that save.

Kind of hoping when this is all said and done he'll box up the entire collection of save states for people to play around with.
