Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 17-23 | United, Divided, Anime

I have a shit ton of free time and that upsets me greatly because I constantly feel the shame of having done nothing worthwhile with that free time, including even playing video games.

I do nothing but read GAF and watch things on Twitch every day for double digits of hours.

People who've done the level already just run straight through it and I don't have much of a chance to explore.

Oh, yeah, I usually don't summon for the level itself, got used to most people only putting summons down at the boss anyway, so that's what I was focused on.

The real problem is that I'm trapped in the P4G vortex

Yeah, I'm in an Atlus vortex right now, can't believe I'm doing a second playthrough of SMT IV. And worse that I've made a spreadsheet to track my alignment. Send help please, I need an intervention. But still squeezing in fighting robots every chance I get.

I work a 9-5
like a sucker
, but being a sucker engineer isn't so bad

The real problem is that I'm trapped in the P4G vortex so I can't keep practicing FGs so I'm ultimately free to Q's

I follow games more than actually play them these days. Aside from the usual work/life obligations, in the last couple years I've noticed that I can get pretty nasty headaches if I play games for more than a couple of hours at a time. Gone are the days when I could session from the afternoon well into the evening.

Also I'd like to play with any west coast gaffers here in KoF Steam and BBCP.
I'd be down for some KOF13 on steam. Not until later tonight though, say 7:30-8.

Combo breaker. You ALMOST beat the FGC stereotype of not eating crappy food. Ugh instant ramen. FGC likes that sodium.
Notice the past tense in my statement.
I hardly ever eat that stuff anymore. I think I've had it once within the past year.

Lime Chili Shrimp was my shit back in the day though.

I don't know you anymore.
I'll put this in marvel terms:
Maruchan=Magneto
Top Ramen=Iron Man

The Story of GAF right here

Do you at least jerk off?

I see another one of my clones made it to GAF.

I do mturk for now for money. Its not great (or good in terms of hours put in) but its some money while I look for a real job. It pays more than min wage in Cali though. I rarely play fighters anymore outside random online with friends. Though I'm starting to love portable gaming over consoles. Bravely default, Dangan Ronpa, P4G and VLR/999 won me over to the portable side.

I have essentially finished Strider so I am going to give my mini review here first then post the full review in the main thread once I have 100% it (gotten all the items).

I feel the game is around a 7.5-8 for me. Game gets better in the latter half when you have a few more enemy types and more toys to play around with. Swapping the different Plasma modes mid combat for some flashy moves is hella fun. The challenges are fun as well.

Pros:

*Solid animations and effects.

*Combat is fun especially when there are many types of enemies along with uneven surfaces.

*Lots of collectibles to find, some useful some just for show.

*Metroidvania style game play... the power ups are fun to play around with and there's a use for pretty much every one of your tools (both in combat and in traversal).

*Bosses get the job done well enough. I especially like the later bosses that require you to switch up Plasma modes to deal with their various attacks.

*Challenge modes are fun and a nice way to squeeze some extra value out of the game.

Cons:

*No new game+ is a bummer. I would like to have seen a full arsenal Strider fight against remixed enemies in a NG+ difficulty.

*Hard is the highest difficulty and its not that hard at all... about Normal difficulty for these types of games.

*Only one save file and no customizable controls.

*Environments are generally bland and don't really pop out much.

*Sounds effects are muted at times and the subtitle text overlay is really awful especially in the middle of some boss fights.

*While there are more enemies in the second half of the game, the enemy variety is still very mediocre. They squeezed as much out of every basic enemy type as possible.

Good action side scrolling game overall. I can't say I didn't have fun with the game but some oddities did bother me. Worth the $15 price tag and a solid return for Strider but I hope they fix some problems for a future Strider game.

i see chris g got second again at wnf. although with how many people showed up wouldn't he be making more money here than at next level? he probably split too.

Can't be too hyped for anime.

Only disappointing thing about xrd so far is that i spent a long time of my life learning FRC chemical love and now it's useless.

Just had someone send raging PMs on XBL about divekick whilst looping forward jump over lk with Adon over and over again. And taunting a lot. -_- Not much fun to play vs someone who knows the latency is on his side.

SF4 sucks online so bad.

FTFY

player attitude is not SF's fault. and while in my experience there's less childishness in VF online, the truth of the matter is that standard online environments (read: ranked) are just bad. just stick to room matches, you'll level up faster and won't have to worry about getting teabagged.

Haha so true. Newer fighting games should use a system that levels you up in Endless Battle while keeping it separate from other Ranking battles. Or just be awesome and do what VF4: Evo did. Which btw I've only played it once at a friend's but I want to buy it. Just wish it was this gen so it was online. That's just VF5 though, without the cool progression mode.
