Whoa, I check in for the first time and they're already level 17.

The pokemon sprites are great in GSC, but the guy trainer sprite looks like he has lipstick or something. I think I liked the RBY trainer sprite better.

Its because the palette of colors they used was limiting and made the line for the mouth be done in a redish color.

Maybe you'll prefer my updated AJ Downey Jr. Sprite :P

Throwing random ideas out there: Let's just make it a superhero theme. We already have Cyclops and Robert Downey Jr and his obsession with going up to female NPCs repeatedly while walking around drunk and we have Hawkeyes jr lol

No, there's no 'making a theme', this whole thing is about memes emerging on their own merit, not forcing them (which frankly is what people are doing with the whole admiral thing afaik). The helix fossil didn't become a cult icon just because 'lol funny', it happened because we'd repeatedly accidentally select it both out of and in battles, almost as if it was of great importance; as if Red was obsessed with it; as if he worshipped it. And then moments like 'I can't put a price on that' were just icing on the helix worshipping cake. People are too impatient, we've got days ahead of us. Heck we didn't even have any remarkable moments at this point in the Red playthrough, as that was still in the 'dark ages' so to speak, before this whole thing blew up. We've got Lazergator so far, which is pretty cool.

Yep. The Leer Totodile memes are some of the few that came naturally out of the Crystal playthrough so far.

I'm a fan of King Leer.

There is a difference between setting up a theme and writing a narrative.

Setting a theme doesn't restrict creativity... The fact that so many people are trying to make this run "Red Version 1.1 now featuring Johto Region" is the real problem... Intentionally trying to find "prophets" and "gods" to make it the same thing as before isn't just uncreative, it's uninteresting and unfun... to the point I've already almost given up on this run.

(edit) You make an assumption that Red didn't have a theme... it did, the concept of idols hit the stream very early on, and everything else was a play on that initial theme of idol worship.

Don't worry, the jokes start coming after we make it through Union Cave and catch a few more Pokemon.

Precisely.

I think they should have waited a bit longer before starting this run.

Guys it just began, stop complaining about the lack of original memes. They will come as we proceed with the story. You are making a fool out of yourselves taking this so seriously.

Yup. Things are starting to get a bit better but I'm guessing it's because all the kiddies in the UK are starting to duck into bed and the little shitheads haven't been let out of school yet on the US West Coast

give it a few hours and we'll be "PRAISE WHATEVER ITEM WE JUST FOUND HURRR I GET THE JOKE TOO GUIS" with a new emergent joke sporadically sprinkled

Man I hope I'm wrong

I agree this is playing a big part... but honestly I think it was kind of a "now or never" for the original TPP. If they didn't continue it, it would have burnt out on other channels as well.

This was our "Never Going to Give You Up", our one hit wonder... if we're lucky we'll have a couple more good or okay hits... or else we'll just end up like those guys that did Who Let the Dogs out and randomly play at sporting events.

Well you're wrong about the East Coast thing, they don't have school today since it's Sunday...

The king leer jokes are funny, but I saw someone in the char earlier trying to force a false prophet joke on one of the new pokemon.

I'm sure good content will come, but hopefully people realize that forcing jokes from the previous game isn't funny.

It's the internet, unfunny people who want to fit in will always exist and have a voice. Just ignore them, the state reddit is in right now makes the whiners look worse than the people doing it.

I think there should have been more of a gap between the two games, but I'm not complaining.

New "cool things" will come when cool stuff happen ingame...you just have to be patient.

When Red started there were no "jesus" "helix" and "ledge" jokes. Just wait something awesome/interesting to happen.

I'm happy with the "Lazorgator" thing.

I went to sleep after we beat Joey to catch up on the sleep I didn't get cause this started so early. I wake up 4 hours later and we're still in Sprout Tower? lmao

Did we at least beat Falkner?

I can't wait for us to just blow through Whitney in one or two tries with an overleveled Totodile. Nothing like shattering people's childhoods.
