Twitch Plays Pokemon Thread 3: Return of Red... Aussies win again!

I know I roll my eyes at this. But what's the recap so far?
Or, if you don't want to answer, what's the theme of it all? I heard something about Military.

And this pic has made me want Female Protagonist sooooooo bad. I really want to see the oh so rare tasteful female fanart. It's Pokemon, it's so hard to get the people into that demographic to defile it and then float it all to the top.

I think it's time to give up on this for me. It's a combination of this not really feeling like it has the same magic as TPP Red, and me needing to actually get some work done. I think he should have left a fortnight or even a month between the games really, it needed more breathing space.

It's been real fun though, this thread has been great and TPP is definitely one of my favourite Internet things. Good luck with Crystal, I'll try and come back for the Red battle.

Kimono Girls>Surf>Burned Tower>Rival Battle>Release Legendary Dogs>Morty's Gym.

Ideally we'll reach Burned Tower sometime from 4-10 AM (in game time) so we can catch a Cyndaquil. We'll probably spend most of tomorrow in Morty's Gym, even with democracy kicking in.

It's like, my head's telling me to be productive now, but something else is telling me to keep checking in the desperate hope that something will show up to take my time

I feel like evolving Eevee will be pretty random. Planning ahead hasn't really gone well this run so far. Unless things have changed during the day anyway.
 
Looks like they want to do the tower before the Kimono Girls, but they've entered it an hour too early. There goes my Cyndaquil plan. =/

Oh hey the all-pokemon romhack seems to actually work here.

Let's get a scizor. or to rephrase. It'll be awesome if chat blunders its way into a scizor or some other formerly-trade-evo pokemon.
 
Seriously, what are we going to do with a level 5 Cyndaquil? Level it? Hah. Not that a fire Pokemon wouldn't be a nice addition to the team, but I think Growlithe would make a better one if only because it can be evolved with a Fire Stone.

Arcanine is great, but getting a fire stones it's lots of trouble if I remember correctly

If the only changes are pokemon availability I'm pretty cool with it. The games were designed for multiplayer in that regard, which isn't an option here.Seeing wild cyndaquil is pretty neat, and if we blunder our way into Celebi or Mew it'll be super-exciting.

We are playing Crystal, so Schoolboy Alan on Route 36 ( which is just beneath Ecruteak ) will eventually give us a Fire Stone if we fight him enough times. I think I saw his number call us, so it is feasible.
 
Here are the details on the romhack we are using. Basically changes to Pokémon & item availability. Note that Omanyte can be caught in the Safari Zone.

We used a hacked ROM for Pokemon gen 1 so it makes sense.

The point of the ROM hacks is to be able to obtain Pokemon without trades. This worked out well for gen 1 because it just gave us both the Red and Blue Pokemon in one game. In all of the post-gen 1 games, because there are a bunch of Legendaries you can't get with just one game ROM Hacks like this usually have easier ways to get Legendaries which I think kind of lowers the difficulty. But whatever, like someone else said battles were never really the difficult part in the first place.

No, we would never had got through Red if we weren't using a rom that allowed us to go through the Safari Zone without a step count.

All the ROM does is add all the pokemon in. Plus it's possible that the streamer may have hacked Red's team at the end to match our previous team, at least that's what people are hoping. That would be awesome, and it wouldn't be possible without a hackable rom.

There wasn't any change to Safari Zone though. Democracy made it through in the step limit.

That's not what happened though. The red rom was actually completely vanilla. We got through the safari zone with the democracy system. The step count was in place and the 151 pokemon thing wasn't actually active.

Oh I played mainly Gold in gen 2 so I'm not really aware of it.
 
Thanks for posting the details of the hack. I've been trying to figure out what what going on with the GS ball... As long as we don't use the hack to become overpowered I guess it's okay. It does feel a little weird though.

Personally I would to see a randomized TPP playthrough sometime. Randomize those pokes! That'll make things interesting! Lvl 5 Mewtwos galore!

The Red ROM did not alter the Safari Zone, but it was not completely vanilla. The Streamer was using the "151 ROM Hack", which allows the player to complete the Pokedex without having to trade with Blue version.

Well we never encountered any Blue exclusive Pokemon, so the point is moot.

Coulda sworn that one of the streamer's interviews said that the description text was innacurate, as he had botched applying the 151 patch.
