Titanfall: Official Launch Trailer

Oh like smash brothers

More like a way advanced version of smash's replay mode.

Basically, in Halo, you have complete freedom with how you watch a match from fast forwarded, to frame by frame. You camera can also go just about anywhere at any time while you watch. You can take pictures whenever as well.

It's really nice.

The animations in Titanfall are actually pretty great. Some of the slow mo shots showed them off well.

Also really looking forward to this game. Beta was a LOT of fun

Correction, I am twirling my mustache.

Way to take someone's quotes out of context.

You can say what you like about me, I really don't care but here's the truth:

1) I enjoyed the beta but am worried by the lack of official info about what's on the disc
2) I'm completely honest in everything I write, if I do review Titanfall it'll be a completely unbiased review, I've no reason to hate any game despite what fanboys think
3) I've think the fact that I 'm a journalist who works for a retailer and am expressing my fears proves how honest I am, I'm sure my boss would rather I praise every game but that is not me
4) anyone who follows me on twitter knows I like to joke around a lot, so I make the odd comment in the heat of the moment, so what? Who doesn't, I'm pretty sure I could go through gaf and burn everyone.

I'm happy that I'm 100 percent honest, I've no fears as to my integrity, anyone who asks me to review a game or give my opinion on one will get nothing but the truth. You may not like my opinion but that's not gonna stop me from giving it.

Then why lie about your opinion? Say in your impressions that you dislike it, then later say you like it in an attempt to gain credibility?

There is not much to take out of context, the train of thought it quite clear with those posts and the overall context of most of your other replies confirm your preference. There is nothing wrong with a preference, but the contraditionary comments are very misleading—from questioning the hype to flip-flopping stance on the game to look relevant in Titanfall threads.

Questioning value is always a good debate to have, but when you obnoxiously have a different non-related agenda within that discussion it’s annoying. You’re not helping a customer understanding by bringing thinly veiled console war into the debate. As someone who keeps questioning other journalist in this industry for being paid, you are exactly doing what you advocate that is destroying this industry but for free. Should EA and Respawn be more upfront about the content of this game? Of course, nobody is debating that they should not, but somehow you think nobody else wants it and everybody is mindless sheep. It’s disgusting seeing this backhanded logic being used, and on top of it you are a games journalist.

Well, their marketing is doing a pretty piss-poor job of conveying that. From the trailers I've seen it's mostly just parkour, jetpacks, giant robots, company, parkour, giant robots. Also, let's be serious here, people are gonna play the game for the spectacle of double jumping from a wallrun, landing on an enemy's Titan and destroying it, not for whatever story they have laid out for it.

Not a jab at you or anything, but I find it really funny how some people see the trailers and footage and say it's misleading because it will make people think there is a SP campaign, and then others say that there's too little story. You see what you wanna see, I guess.

Then why lie about your opinion? Say in your impressions that you dislike it, then later say you like it in an attempt to gain credibility?

Maybe because I was on the fence at first and unsure what was so special about it. Or maybe I was just in a bad mood, who knows. Like I say I'm not a shooter fan, but I'm allowed to change my mind, unless there is some unwritten gaf rule that your not.

I think you are reading too much into what I said. I couldn't see what was so special about this game at first and I still don't. We've just had confirmation that the campaign is basically the multiplayer matches with cutscenes, which will be over in a couple of hours. To me this is not a campaign at all really and the fact there is a season pass makes me even more sceptical about what's on the disc.

Just because I don't think the game is the second coming like everyone here does, doesn't mean I don't appreciate the gameplay. Like I say I enjoyed playing, but there is nothing special about it IMO at all.

*you're

The issue is that you present yourself as a self-righteous advocate of the people. You're not "worried" about the content on the disc - you're irritated that the game is not on your console of choice, as you've stated, and that other people are as excited about it as they are, as you've stated.

If you're "worried" that the value for you might not be there, don't preorder it. You choose to attempt to speak for (aka passive-aggressively "calm down") the rest of us that are clearly more educated than you on the content of this particular game, which is (a) useless and (b) annoying as hell.

Enjoy the game and don't forget to take a break. I'm done with this thread, because I've got better things to do with my time. Let's just hope you all get your value for money and if anyone actually has a negative opinion then good luck to you.

The difference will be that their opinion will be formed from actually experiencing the game; instead of a bias against a console exclusive.

If that's Xbox footage then the March update/SDK or whatever is a beast

The trailer says it is. Anything else is playing semantics through wordplay to fit an argument or flat out calling the devs liars.

Then why bother harping on it to no end? What purpose does that serve?

You're a damn journalist for goodness sake.

This is quite ironic.

It says representative. Assets are probably what you'll get, but the trailer was definitely rendered out at higher resolutions and downsampled.

Why must it be hyperbole? Why can't it be legit praise?
Because Titanfall is not the most important game ever made. Don't be daft.
It's yet another variant of the FPS. It didn't invent anything.

If I don't consider Doom the most important game ever made, then Titanfall certainly isn't.

After playing both the alpha and the beta I can absolutely agree with a lot of what has been said. The game is bloody fun in my opinion. And apparently a lot of others here agrees with me.
Yeah have fun. That still doesn't make it the most important game ever made.

And personally I would say that referring to Titanfall as just "a FPS where you shoot dudes" is very close to downplay it. You are at least oversimplifying it.
Well I guess you just have to deal with me saying that about the vast majority of first-person shooters.

There are like 3 games that can claim that title and if you're not genre-defining, you're not even up for consideration.

That was... Yeah, I think I'm going to buy a multiplayer-only shooter, as surprising as that sounds to my own ears. Besides, I don't want to miss out on another Shadowrun, Warhawk or Chromehounds.

No one is saying titanfall is the most important game ever. The reason it's getting all this hype and praise is because for the first time in years were getting a "new" shooter.

Ever since these guys made mw1 almost every fps has been extremely similar to it so we've been kinda playing the same game for years. Titanfall with the movement, parkour and the mechs just feels new, fresh and fun.

Yes TheVerge did. It was also used in MS promotions, because it's such a juicy quote.
I used quotation marks for a reason. My post was to be read within that context and specifically called out that statement.
I didn't think laughing at such drivel was anything out of the ordinary before Doffen challenged it.

I'm glad that we're getting a much quicker high budget console FPS because the modern military shooter stuff is stale as fuck now.

It was 6.30am when I replied, I'm also human.

Looks like you need to get your priorities in check. Especially with regards to how much time you spend on highlighting how people get too carried away (don't know how you fail to see the irony in that).

Yes because that is totally what happened here....

MS/EA are the bastard redheaded step childs on this form, both are constantly posted about with contempt in many threads.

Your posts just read like they had some kind of weird agenda to them, the fact that you do game reviews as part of your livelihood compounded the issue

I didn't say it was innovative, nor did The Verge.
Personally I like to judge the importance of a product based on it's impact on the market and on the industry.

There is no golden rule that important = innovation.
Don't be silly.

Also The Verge said: "Titanfall could be the most important game in years."
Not "is" not "will be", but "could".

If I don't consider Doom the most important game ever made, then Titanfall certainly isn't.

I consider Doom a very important game for our industry.
But the fuck do I know. I'm daft, right?

I'm fine with you having your own standards for what is important games for you. We all got different criteria.

I however think it's laughable that some would not acknowledge the importance and impact of games like Counter-Strike, Halo, Battlefield and Call of Duty for our industry, just because they are about "shooting dudes".
I'm saying Titanfall could join this list, not saying it will, but it has in my opinion the potential.

What else would Titanfall possibly qualify for? It will not be the biggest seller ever. It will not expand the audience the way Wii Sports did.
I think I was being generous to judge it by innovation because every other objective metric it has no chance. The chance to become the most important game for every game is so minuscule to even speculate about that based on half an hour of playtime at the most is ludicrous. When CGW said "Is StarCraft the best RTS yet?" it was done full day of play-time and was still a vastly more qualified statement.

MS PR said:
We’re just getting started. Our team couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming launch of “Titanfall,” which is exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Recently called the “most important game in years,” a “game changer” and “system seller,” “Titanfall” has been heralded for its “spectacular action,” termed a “ridiculously good looking game,” and the “most exciting shooter in years.” For people who haven’t purchased Xbox One, we believe “Titanfall” will be the energizer to launch a new generation of gameplay.

If you have an issue with MS PR, then bring it up with them.

I consider Doom a very important game for our industry.
But the fuck do I know. I'm daft, right?
I also consider Doom a very important game. Guess why I consider it that way, certainly not because it was hyped pre-release based on half an hour of E3 gameplay on one map but because it stood the test of time. And I said you shouldn't be daft to miss the obvious hyperbole around this game and why people laugh at it.
You are apparently so careful with language, so please do not misrepresent what was being said. ;-)

If it's the game that I have the must fun with ever, then it will be the most important game for me.
Have fun with it.

See my reply regarding Doom. I personally don't count Battlefield.
CS = Arguably the first mod to explode in such popularity that commercial interests were awoken.
Halo = Changed the default platform shooters were made off from PC to console.
Call of Duty = Sales phenomenon.

Also I don't agree that you can hide behind "could" or asterisks when hyping shit pre-release. They invited the ridicule. You don't feel like joining and and that's fine.

If you want to continue this please PM me as talking about hyperbole is off-topic in this thread and was only borne about the epic sick burn* on watto.
