So guys...
w0FyYzy.png

Which one will it be?

errr.. shouldn't it be around the other way?

Australian time when most Aussies are on is our night time (6pm - midnight) which is around 5am - 10am game time

between what hours count as day and night?

I'm bothered by the fact we are calling our female Raticate Abdullah, lol.

On another note, for whatever reason I'm not as engaged in this as I was through the original game of TPP. Maybe it's because there still seems to be no overarching mythology like the whole Helix thing which tied a lot together a lot :P Hopefully we get something like that soon here.

Hoooo boy. I have been uncharacteristically AFK lately, so I've missed basically everything from Crystal (despite Gen II being my favorite!) Is there a handy link to catch me up on everything so far (besides the google doc of course)? How is the mythology compared to the Red playthrough? Is the fanart as good?

I COULD spend five hours going through the past sixty pages of the thread, but, ya know... nah :P

This stream has really changed my view on G/S/C. I remember it back in the day as only being an incremental update over the Super Gameboy (which added minimal colors) version of R/B/Y, but it's actually a huge step up from R/B/Y in terms of presentation and music.

The Pokemon sprites on my side of the screen blew me away at the time. I was playing Yellow basically right up to the release so I could tell right away.

PC again...and democracy coming up in a few seconds. What will happen D:

A lot of talk about releasing Lazrgatr...I just want away from the PC.

GSC improvement in music is pretty staggering considering it's still 8-bit. You just wouldn't hear anything with as much depth as National Park in RBGY.

You're right, it's just that most people have the Australia daytime vs America daytime joke ingrained in their heads.

Europe doesn't exist.

Can't stay away from PC. I think we withdrew Smoochum on last use. Now Jack is calling. I can't look away, I just want it to be over. I can't lose muh gator. T_T

Is there an actual goal here, or is the trolling contingent actually strong enough to draw us to the PC for purely destructive purposes right now?

Does it feel like a bunch of regulars
besides RedShift
on this thread have left. Feels like we're getting smaller and smaller as a group.

Oh, and bless a9 during conversations

Considering the Crystal stream is rapidly dropping off in popularity and TPP is about to go below 25K for the first time in two weeks (not including the idle period between gens), then yeah that makes a lot of sense.

A large section of the stream has finally realized Feraligatr is posing a problem for our team, so there's a big push to do something about it. Some people want to push him to the back of the party, some want to deposit him in the PC, and some want to release him. We're probably going to be in the Pokemon Center until either one of these happens, we release a pokemon and scare off people, or democracy manages to get us out.

....He is? Because last I checked we're doing pretty well soloing with him right now. Judging from the Twitch chat it looks more like trolling.

The next goal I believe is to get to Cianwood City for the medicine Jasmine wants. Plus I don't think anyone knows Strength so we need to teach someone that. But there's a huge group on chat that want to release Feraligatr and we keep going to the PC. :/

He's sucking up all the exp from the team, leaving everyone else with little to no chance to level and become useful. It makes the run boring and isn't good for us in the long run. As we've seen in Burned Tower and Morty's Gym, having only 1 useful pokemon also has some big disadvantages (poison and hypnosis/curse, respectively), which are only amplified when commands are randomly selected.

Second gen just isn't as popular as first gen. Less people know the game in detail and unfortunately we have got several retread pokemon which stifles new memes coming to the fore. Also the uniqueness is gone.

The game is getting completed faster though and viewers might pick up once we hit elite 4, Kanto revisit and Red fight.

If we release him, the next pokemon will become the new exp hog. We have to set a new pokemon to be first, it's the best option.

Oh so kinda exactly like Bird Jesus and AA-J were in the last run?

Probably. I originally wanted to release him, but now I'm worried about losing our only surfer and having trouble grinding up our other pokes because Feraligatr has already destroyed all the available trainers. He's also so high level now that it'd feel like a waste to throw away all that exp he stole from the rest of the team.

Yes.

And Lord Helix, and King Fonz.

4/6 of our team was worthwhile in Red.

In Crystal, all we have is a
worthless
Crocodile.

That only happened near the end though, there's still time especially since the levels in GSC start to plateau now and will give the lower levelled pokemon a chance to grow.

Yeah it's just not the same, with Red you had a lot more nostalgia but GSC less people played it and even less know it inside and out like people did with RBY. Plus before, right up to the end everything was new and exciting. Now, it's "all been done before" even if Red was a different game, and since Pokemon is basically the same game every time (collect 8 badges and go to E4, a route or two, maybe a cave between cities, etc.) since we're in a new game there's less pressure and focus to succeed like there was before. Viewership has definitely dropped off sharply.

Tbh, at this point I'm kinda hoping they can just solo most of the game with Gater, maybe pick up a second Poke along the way, and get it done quickly. I've come to the conclusion that gen 2 isn't really that good for TPP, it's a better game than gen 1 overall (IMO) but the way Johto is designed means that there are inherently going to be less ledges and things to struggle with the chat over. The odd level balance makes it more difficult for us to raise more than one Pokemon. I get the feeling that a gen 3 run would be more interesting, especially with a more unique pool of Pokemon.

Kinda wish they'd of tried a different game.

Yeah it would've been cool to see a different game take center stage. It'd still have to be an RPG I think, he put on some stuff like Mario and Zelda in the downtime between Red and Crystal and those were pretty fun, but would need some hacks (unlimited health/lives) to make them viable to beat, otherwise it would get boring after a while of not really getting anywhere, due to the more precise nature of the games. What game(s) would you have liked to see?

edit: And of course, the channel name is TwitchPlaysPokemon, so I guess it'd be weird if it wasn't playing Pokemon. :P

I think it's also because there is a lack of mythology like the previous game had with Lord Helix / Bird Jesus / False Prophet Eevee etc. Just aren't seeing any of those amazing stories coming out here for some reason. But it's the absurd player made stories that added so much drama and entertainment to the stream. Now it's kind of like...just watching someone play Pokemon (badly)

Someone a while back suggested Dragon Quest and I think that would work fine, the biggest issue with DQ (at least assuming we don't pick up a ton of popularity in Japan) is that not enough people are familiar with where to go. But from a gameplay perspective it would work well.

I also like the idea of an eroge VN, where the chat is always in Democracy.

Final Fantasy 6 would be a good choice for one of these. People are familiar with it, and it has a mechanic where you respawn at the last save point with your exp from when you died, so porgress wouldn't be pushed to far back from a death. However, I have no idea how they would input Blitz commands, which might be an issue for Sabin's recruitment scene.

I'm just hoping we get to Gen 3. Half of its difficulty depends on what starter they choose, but Norman and the twins will be a challenge any way we play. The Twins especially if we powerlevel one Pokemon, since it basically becomes a 2 on 1 fight.
