Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Judging by the reactions here I feel like people want another Brawl dojo that literally spoils every single bit of genuinly new content months in advance.

Seriously though, today's update was interesting and definitely new info I haven't heard anyone else point out or notice in a trailer. I liked it.

Fans: B-b-b-but how are they going to make an entire moveset for little mac if all he does is punch?

Sakurai: In addition to all of this awesome shit I gave Little Mac, here's two additional moves.

Haha, right? The newcomers all seem so much more lavish than the returning characters.

Makes me think there something overarching and huge, mechanically that we are intentionally being kept in the dark about.

No way that they'd go through the trouble of giving each character 3 interchangeable side smash attacks... Right guys?

The one detail that sakurai hinted about with the customization feature comes to mind with this reveal and it was that the directionality of attacks may be able to be changed. I wonder if this is a coincidence?

At any rate, this is shaping up to be a hell of a week with only one useless pic so far and even then, I think poor Sakurai felt he was imparting useful info. :0

Little Mac is diversifying his punching portfolio for Smash.

Yep and I am really hyped up to play him. He seems like such a technical character, it is going to be so fun learning the ins and outs

Shit, one thing I think we are missing is that the diagonal down body blow is the first smash attack to have no knock back, so in other words guaranteed combos. I can see it now. Pounding on a foe till Mac's KO meter fills up then DING, jab, jab, jab, body blow into hitstun, then I unleash his OHKO uppercut, it's going to be like Hajime No Ippo in this bitch!!!

Sakurai was so purposely vague I feel like something got lost in translation. In any event, directional customization probably only applies to specials I imagine. This update makes it sound like Mac always has the option of changing direction for that particular smash.

So wait, can you tilt the direction of the smash using the Wiimote? I know not many people use that control method, but I think it is something to note.

D-Pad can do diagonals. Also it says you can just press up or down while it is charging.

Side-A could mean tilts and Smashes, not precise enough.

Isn't "tilt" just as ambiguous? "Smash" implies just that: smashing--or moving--the control stick quickly. The fact that there's another word besides Smash at all that isn't a synonym is all you need, and either tilt or side would work, unless there's something I'm missing.

Tilt is more descriptive than side. It's like if I had a light punch and a heavy punch. I could just call the heavy one 'heavy', and call the other one 'punch'. Calling them 'heavy' and 'light' makes a lot more sense though.

More than that though really, it's just how the language is at this point. I don't remember if it originated from one of the manuals or tutorials or even if it comes from the game/developers, but that's just what people call them. Whatever expression people use for an idea tends to take on the meaning needed. Vocabulary is kinda dynamically based on usage like that I guess.

I don't get the confusion between tilts and smash attacks. What is the question?

Edit: oh I see now.
Hmm so can you tilt the right stick (C stick) and get the same results for his side smash?
That's a good question. I think you'll have to do the same thing with the control stick once the smash attack starts.

Seriously. A buncha spoiled brats here.

Well, they are getting impatience with the information but I don't see why people want them to drop information bombs now since we don't know the release date yet, so they need to space it out for informations to keep it ongoing for long time.

20-22 pictures per month, and we might have like 6 to 9 months to go. so that would be between 120 to 198 pictures to go. I think it's still a lot of pictures to go.

Honestly, I would rather to follow daily images than I do with Dojo since it wouldn't spoil much as Dojo did. I hope.

Did people really complain about today's? Getting detailed information about the moves of newcomers is really exciting to me. What's the problem people have with today's picture?

What I've noticed is that many people in this thread just don't give a shit about any mechanics or changes being shown. And some will whine unless something new like an AT, item, stage, or character is shown. It's best to ignore those people. They won't even wait for the post by Sakurai for the POTD.

Many people in this thread are just here to talk about characters (which is fine). However, the times where most people discuss is when people seem to be talking about removing content. What if scenarios with limitations or removing content and cutting characters. They're really pointless and just is negative discussion.

Anyways, instead of making this post useless, could this be Little Mac's Side-Smash?

I'm guessing no because the leg stance is different and the colored streak seems to fade earlier in the POTD, while the GIF has it fade later. When I say fade, I mean end.

The "it's fucking nothing" stuff does get a bit grating, but I can't tell who's joking and who isn't so eh. :P
"meh" is the new "It's nothing!!111"

I may not just have fast enough eyes, but it looks like the arc of the punch in the gif starts later than the uppercut in the potd. Both seem to start at the toe of his right foot, but the foot is pulled back in the pic of the day. If I had to guess, I would think that's his up smash. The tilted up f-smash looks like a u-smash too though, so who even knows any more, haha.

And maybe this (mystery move) is the Side-Smash Tilted Up.

iVSqCeOHZtme7.gif

Has the same leg stance. Seems to end at the same stance as the POTD. And the beginning part seems to match this (if he was facing the other way) which is his Side-Smash:

Yeah, it's not same attack but that punch made me think of Gazelle Punch. I can't help but pondering if Little Mac would have few options from few attacks that he had.

Goddamn, Mac looks so much fun.

I do wonder what his supposed bad air game and gimped recovery will do to his overall playability though.

I say tilt, bit we should all probably start saying "strong" instead, since that's how Sakurai refers to them.

Little Mac will probably dominate on certain stages.

More likely Final Destination and Smallville but Final Destination might be his best stage since there is no floating platform to get away from Little Mac. If I pick Little Mac then I only ask for stages so no one can hide from the pains that are coming in speed of train.

One of them is a frame longer, I would change it, but minus is being complete shit with me with it not being able to load images when I upload them.

It does the thing on the left first, then when I refresh, it shows what is on the right.

I just uploaded it to Abload and then used upload from web to upload it into minus. Does anyone else have these issues?
I'm thinking up-tilt
Yea, it could be.

No, I've known this for a while. I just didn't want to shit up the thread with a rant that complains about people complaining, but since others were doing it, I joined lol.

I don't pay attention to your posts, so not sure if you have said it before.

Yep, looks like it. Between this and the slower version you posted after, I think it's pretty much pinned down. Good eye. I would never have guess the thing in the Link gif was F-smash without today's pic.

no items, Little Mac only, FD :lol
I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that he won't be high tier though (as in.....top 15)

well that's pretty rude

Oops almost forgot about the pic. So basically Mac technically has 5 unique smashes. Would love for some veterans to get that too if possible.

This is a great update! Able to aim his side smash and the up, down and straight are vastly different? Who wouldn't like this?! Oh right, villains and knaves.

When Brawl came around I remember thinking the many of the original 12 felt really bare bones. It seems like that gap is just going to get bigger and bigger. Really thinking about it though, the really vanilla characters to me are Mario, Link, Jigglypuff, and Donkey Kong. But that's part of the charm of those characters to me, especially DK. If he got a roll attack I'd take him off the vanilla list so fast.

It's possible.

I wonder if Bowser's Drop Kick is one of them, and Zelda's Phantom Attack as well. I probably overthink this time tho.
