A 1500 page thread because of single terrible OP with a misleading gif that looked bad because of weird blown-out lighting. The other gifs posted in this thread are worlds apart, including the last one posted by the OP.

Wow.

GAF makes me sad sometimes.

Maybe you should read some of it and actually look at the comparison shots. The game got a significant downgrade. That is all there is to it.

Here's the thread sheep, now go eat it.

I'm comparing initial 2013 footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&feature=iv&src_vid=1DgFrYU1xNA&v=htJyuVRa0-c
To this latest footage here: http://www.everyeye.it/video/ps4/watch-dogs_videoanteprima_13243

Well, from the initial reveal footage, there is an amazing wind effect that interacts with the environment that appears to missing in all the footage from that Italian site's video. The depth of field effects in addition to the general blur effects are noticeably worse as well.

The shine/reflections and other details on the sidewalk and streets appear to be gone. Bricked areas used to look like actual bricks, but now they look like flat textures (either from the lighting changes or the lowered detail). The density of floating particles seems to be diminished if not removed entirely (i think i did see a can and a leaf blow at one point, but much less than from the 2013 footage).

The daytime lighting is a huge downgrade. The new footage looks flat and overly bright, whereas the initial footage went for a realistic environmental lighting that looked amazing. There are still some gas effects coming from the sewers, but most of the other wind effects seem to be gone.

The streets appear to be much less densely detailed as well with less debris and general objects in the environment.

thanks for the links

I didn't believe until i saw the video. Thats just not good, for a "next gen game" to come out looking like that and not much of a story to back it up.

Who is now not going to buy Watch Dogs because of this?

I was on the fence in the beginning, Not so much anymore. But I'll also wait for it to come out to see the finished product. its not gold yet so this might not even be the finished

Geez! If it's really PS4 footage.. then I'm a bit conflicted on whether or not I should get this game. I still wonder if the delay it received last year was because the last gen (PS3 and 360) versions were suffering too many problems. I think the team should have stick to current gen (PC,PS4, Xbox One). This cross-gen bullshit has seriously hampered the game's potential and profitability.

I still hope that Assassins Creed Current Gen exclusive (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is true. I am just sickened about how this turned out.

I am still wondering if the gameplay footage that has been rolling on today is actual PS4 footage. The Denmark twit didn't help. I would not be surprised if this was last gen's extreme limit visually and technically. Because if in the delay they had to re-do the modeling to fit in all versions (last and current gens), just to have them release on the same day, then it is complete bullocks.
This is unintentionally hilarious.

Edit: Make that an exactly 1500 page thread. Shot in the dark, lolz.
It's actually just 31 pages. We gots a ways to go.

It's cause for serious concern. They sold copies based on its initial impression. I don't want to go into E3 thinking every game I see is just a tech demo.

Still going to pre-order, only thing I dislike about this game are the multiple pre-order rewards. Do I want the cars, different guns, or different outfits. Well, I want all of them within my game without having to pre-order.

Damn, I absolutely loved the graphics of the reveal. Wonder how much closer the PC version is maxed out, compared to the reveal trailer? I want to play a game that looks like THAT.

It was already known since E3 that the PS4 version was slightly downgraded from the 2012 reveal. People were saying based on the OP that it looked like a last-gen game, car vault and all that.

I am not seeing a "significant" downgrade in assets here, just extraneous effects. I'm not worried about the PC version at all, at least from a graphic detail perspective. This is clearly a next-gen engine, which is obvious to people who aren't trolls.

All day today I've been doing my best not to give up hope that whoever was behind the Denmark tweet simply doesn't know wtf he's talking about. Before I saw that being offered as "proof" that the new vid was the PS4 version, I was perfectly happy and sane.

Watch the full video, then come back and tell us there hasn't been a clear visual downgrade.

I don't think it looks terrible or anything, and the game could still be a lot of fun, but it is a pretty noticeable downgrade.

Going by other games the PC will look the same besides slight increases to IQ and frame rate.

Not that I expect it to, but the PC version could look better than the reveal and you'd still have people saying this word for word. Same (false) argument that was going on last gen.

All I know is that coincidentally just yesterday I downloaded a pristine 720p copy of the 15 min demo vid from last Sept and watched it last night on my PS3, and thought "Oh man I can't wait for this." Then this morning I saw the new video, and I immediately assumed it had to be the PS3 version, it looked so much worse than the demo.

I doubt it will be close. Hopefully the lighting might make the transition, given that PC was supposedly the lead platform, but I can't see anything else surviving if even something as menial as textures (in comparison) were tossed out for the current gen systems. The particle effects, animations, rain, reflective surfaces...those aren't as simple to add/remove between versions of the game.

You should provide that on here. I provided some of the September footage on here and people just ignore it and keep on about the gif in the OP while saying that the trailer and new footage have no downgrade (with exceptions of course!).

Which begs the question...were the demos from last year more concept work, possibly what they may have been working on to show off in 2012 but didn't have ready? The quality wasn't quite as high, but it still looked really damn good. Could also have been a high-end PC demo, but starting to doubt it.

Pretty drastic downgrade, unless the PC versions can run it and they're trying to hide it.

Graphics downgrade, meh. But what happened to that sweet game based around remaining anonymous, observing the environment, and using your hacking skills to attack, escape, and survive? All those gifs look like generic action hero shooter, also featuring his sidekick, invincible car that pedestrians magically avoid.

So I am a troll now? The game used to look really good, now it doesn't. Its not trolling to say that or point it out. Everything shown here does not look like a step above Ps3/360. It looks BAD for a PS4/XboxOne/PC game. Its clear to see. Sleeping Dogs on PC looks better than this game and it came out the same year this was shown. Give me a break.

Judging by GameInformer and IGN, the revolutionary gameplay involving NPC texts featuring novel little gags is better than ever!

It does look like a lot of that is intact though. Not sure if everything is, like the EMP thing at the beginning of the E3 demo, but the new footage showed bridge controls, chopper, and a few other hacking options. Previews called out camera viewing as well.

I will ask my teachers (workers at Ubisoft Montreal) if the downgrade has anything to do with the game being delayed because of the problems they had with the last gen versions.

So conflicted. I wanna play with my friends on PS4, but I want the pretty graphics. I want the pretty version, but I hate Uplay and my jank-ass mid-range GPU probably wouldn't make it pretty enough,

Based on this new footage, the lighting definitely seems a lot more fake and blown-out during the day, but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. It may be different weather, it may be a stylistic thing.

In any event, that gif in the OP is as misleading as it gets. Did you really think that because of that giant spotlight there were no road textures?

It looks OK now. The reveal was night and day compared to this. Especially the lighting & particle effects.

I also feel the game's overall atmosphere isn't what it used to be...

I wouldn't say it's ugly and to me it looks pretty comparable to Infamous on the PS4. It has been noticeably downgraded though and while I'd love to be able to play the old version on a powerful PC, I won't be holding my breath.

The delay and recent reports of the reason for it being that the game was repetitive should set alarm bells ringing, there's only so much they could have done in the few months they were given to improve it. I'm guessing the more stealthy style of play has probably been somewhat ignored during it in favour of adding plenty of moments for gun fights to help ease the repetition of the slower paced stealth approach.

Nah son couldn't let you get away with that. Consider yourself wrong. One is running on full next gen assets. Food for thought.

Sorry, not seeing it. Looks consistent with the E3 2013 PS4 footage.

Downgraded somewhat from the original high-end PC footage, yes, but that was expected. It's the PC version I'm interested in, and that's not what we're looking at.

It would be okay if the mood of the story matched. It does not. It's like setting Blade Runner in sunny LA.

I think you nailed it. What happened to the stormy, fall time (low light on the horizon), gungy Dystopian Chicago of the future?

Half expecting him to run a GTA triathlon and go surfing...
