Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

All this pointless obsessing over graphics when the pertinent issue is the fact this game will get boring after a few hours. Also, does ANYONE care about this story or main character at all? Has there been a more generic and uninteresting protagonist in a AAA game in the last few years?

well people have enjoyed ass creed and those games and stories have gotten pretty boring for some too whereas some people keep eating that shit up.

Cancelled my pre-order. I get the feeling this is going to be Assassin's Creed 1 all over again.
In that case it is going to sell a hell of a lot more than it deserves to. Hopefully the sequels follow the same trajectory.

You guys. Seriously. The only way to make this stop is to refuse to buy the game. If enough people refuse to buy on this principal of false reveal/misleading information, publishers will eventually stop doing it. It's not right. It's not fair. Think about how little they've shown. Think about the fact that, when the game releases, we'll probably have more footage of the game before the downgrade than after the downgrade. They are intentionally trying to trick people. That's why they have barely shown anything since.
The problem is, the people that determine whether Ubi succeeds with this have no idea what it looked in 2012. I doubt even 10% of the people who bought Halo 2 could tell what was different about the E3 2003 demo and the final product.

The reality is Ubisoft targeted high-end PCs (at the time) because the PS4 and Xbox One hardware weren't yet locked into place. Now we all get to see what the game looks like on actual console hardware.

They must have had information about the specs. And the comparison images I posted were from Sept 2013 from an allegedly playable PS4 build, which they also showed at TGS. When did they realise it couldn't run? post TGS when the game was meant to release in Nov?

I thought the reveal footage looked good for a cross-gen game, but I wasn't super impressed. I'm hoping the PC version looks more like the original reveal, but....

I guess you're right. I just feel like it shouldn't be allowed

Exactly, I mean look at infamous second son. Their is no excuse Ubisoft couldn't keep the same or near same visuals as it's e3 reveal. The only option for the downgrade would be to just push this to the last gen,

WD was the first next gen game we seen last gen. It's sad its looking worse. I wonder what actual improvements have they done, especially if it's coming out in two months.

Some shots look all right, but a lot of them look terrible. And everything is brighter now, which kind of ruins the atmosphere of the game. Hope the PC version turns out all right.

Looking at the preview footage the game looks a lot more cartoony. It seems like a complete artistic overhaul. I don't think it looks bad in motion but it's very different from the gritty, realistic style shown before.

That's a bit unfair I'd say as they are making a game for 5(6 if the Wii U actually comes out) platforms as opposed to the Sucker Punch being able to code specifically for the PS4. I think so far that WD looks ok. Not to the same level as the reveal in my opinion, but completely serviceable. That said, my excitement for the game has waned drastically since it's delay. I'm not sure as to why, but with so many other games that I'm excited for, this one seems a bit of a drop in the bucket to me. We'll see though.

Kind of a shame since I think the gameplay seems more interesting to me than Infamous.

Wish I could combine the graphics of Infamous with the hacking elements of this game. Oh well...

I'm not seeing how this looks horrible.

Other than the Depth of Field effect, it looks just like a PS360 game. Character models look super low poly. It's very jarring.

This is clearly a crossgen game and it shows. No matter how much you bump up the resolution the character models were evidently designed around the limitations of 2006 hardware.

What a sad state of affairs. Went from being the hottest next gen property to being somewhat questionable due to the delay, and now it's just a punchline.

I hope for both the players and the developers they can at least manage something like AC1. A rough game that shows some potential. I'm willing to forgive a lot in the initial outing.

How are they "super low poly"?

Look at the way the clothes fit them, the angles of their joints as they move and specifically their hands and faces. It's super blocky / chunky and other than the higher resolution textures they look actually worse than GTAV. Compare them to the 2012 reveal footage. The difference is pretty sizable.

Disappointing...if they were ready to ship at the end of last year, I shudder to think what it looked like visually! One look at Infamous is all it took for me to realise that cross gen titles can just do one!

I held off from using the word "cartoony" in my initial post which is what I was thinking as well, but yeah, the daylight footage especially looks strange. Really flat lighting and the colors are totally different. The depth to the footage is gone, and the lack of the atmospheric effects really hurts. Above all, the change in lighting is the biggest loss here.

I'm really not seeing it. The character models look to be one of the few things that have stayed the same through all of this.

People are now just making stuff up to shit on the game just because it's fashionable.

I understand they are stretched thin, but Ubisoft claimed WD would be the first "true" next gen experience. I really wished actually that they would drop last gen and focus on ps4/Xbone only. My comment in reference to infamous graphics is people are I guess trying to say the reveal was done on a super high end pc as if t couldn't be possible on ps4. I think they shouldn't let them selves be so extremely limited on scope. It would have helped if they talked about what they actually improved because of the delay. It's not a good look when all people see are downgraded visuals .

I think that's why a lot of people are throwing out GTA V comparisons in general, GTA V is definitely more cartoony compared to Watch Dogs but the lighting and color variety make everything gel together well in GTA V. Watch Dogs needs better lighting and sharper/deeper colors in general.

I also think we need to wait and see how the PC version turns out before calling it a "downgrade". There are meant to be some nvidia exclusive features which will probably include physx (wind, particles, etc) and cuda (water).

We've also only seen like a minute of b-roll footage and we don't even know where that comes from and what build of the game it comes from.

Word on the street is the re-reveal today was super well received broadly.
Take that as you will.

Fair, but if you look at the original footage, characters werent particularly high poly to begin with.

I think the worst move was delaying back from launch. Stuff that arrives with the new console is always more easily embraced and enjoyed. Once it's pushed back, expectations rise at a higher rate than improvements typically can (and there's more competition). It wouldn't surprise me if Watch Dogs would've gotten 9's in November 2013 only to receive high 7's and 8's in May 2014 despite the added development time (unless the delay was due to game-breakingly awful stuff).

Didn't help Knack, which all in all wasn't even a bad game.

I don't know what you're seeing, but you're not seeing a low polygon count.

Not being funny, but it feels like the PS4 version has been downgraded specifically as the previous footage was from the PS4.

Ubisoft should really be a bit more transparent on the matter as the difference is a generation imo.

Will be interesting to see real like for like comparisons once the game is released - I won't be getting this on PS4 though. I expect to be playing next gen looking games on a next gen console.

To be honest, I am baffled by any significant discussio in the previews about the visual evolution of this game. It was perhaps the main reason it garnered attention on its reveal, and now the difference seems entirely evident. And yet the previews are silent. Either the footage just gives the worst possible impression or previews are previews with next to no critical merit...

Whatever. It doesn't look amazing anymore but it doesn't look bad either. If the gameplay itself is fun, the graphics aren't going to detract from the experience.

PhysX cuts your framerate in half if you use it on max settings. Even on a 780 Ti it's not possible to keep 30fps:

My exact card. AC4 ran like an utter dog the second you hit a heavily forested area, no matter what settings you ran it on and its vsync was super aggressive. But without it, it was freaking screen-tear central, there was just no winning.

It's like they've developed 2 entirely different games. How exactly does bullshotting reach this point? That's not rhetroical and I'm not being facetious, I'm genuinely curious if Ubishit actually had separate teams working on both a bullshit build and a retail build.

Seriously.

Who'd be a dev/community manager in this day and age? Every games reveal is a pixel counting witch-hunt.

We have no idea what build the game footage we are seeing is from or how old it is but yet people are up in arms about it. The TOD's and weather settings are clearly different from the reveal footage but yet people still insist on drawing direct comparisons while cherry picking on the one area that looks out of place (much worse than the rest) without knowing the context (it could be a glitch for all we know).

Good games can look bad in places:

And games can look much worse than they actually are at certain moments if certain elements fail to load in:

Worst of all, the game isn't out yet. What happened to giving it the benefit of the doubt and waiting till the thing actually releases before dubbing it "downgradeaton". And if they have "downgradeatoned" the graphics in order to make the gameplay better and more diverse then its 100% the right move to be making. Lets wait and see.

This is commonplace in the industry. Killzone 2, Halo 2, Aliens Colonial Marines, BioShock Infinite, there have been loads of titles where a fancy trade show reveal/demo is deceitfully presented as the actual game. Always assume that you are being lied to when it comes to these types of games.

Except their mock reviews came back as 7's , which no matter what they claim is why it was delayed.
