PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | March 2014

The games aren't pulled because of hackers, they're pulled because Sony treats their customers like potential pirates.
How dare they try to protect their business by taking down a game for a few hours. They should trust the goodwill of all their customers.

I think they should definitely take the game down from the store (it takes days or weeks, by the way, not hours). Removing the game from a customer's download list is what I find inexcusable, and it's specially petty that they're doing it for the sake of protecting the thriving PSP digital download business, which I'm sure makes them hundreds of dollars every month.

Valve is a company that has to fight piracy more than any other in the games business, and they don't do it by treating customers as thieves.

Yup. They got more money. We got more games for less. Everyone is happy if we put aside that poor GameStop employee that was fired due to a decrease on retail sales
D:

Jokes aside, I don't get really like GameStop either. I don't get why I should go to a store where I'm "paying" customer service if I know like five times more about videogames than him. I'm not asking him to know everything or have a GAF account. But he should at least go to a gaming news site 2-3 times a week and see what's up with his job.

If he isn't informed enough to "help me" in my purchases or he even tries to misinform myself, I'd rather buy my games on Amazon, where I could get those games for 53-55€ instead of 59.99€.

Sadly there isn't a local retailer where I live. I'm sure a guy that has opened his own store would be more "pasionate" about games than the random GS / Game employee. Not saying all of them are that way.

Seeing you people playing MW makes me want it. I should have bought it when it was for 9.99 in January :( [/SPOILR]
I just figured out why this conversation confused the heck out of me. I never said anything about Gamestop. I just said retailers. I expect an apology.
nonono. I'm going to eat the pizza in the shower
:lol Buy a $10 voucher off Amazon.
Think about that again. That doesn't change my current situation about needing to spend $30 more to get FFX HD Vita.

I'm pretty sure they don't do that. They just remove it from the store.

About 2.5 hours into Chains of Olympus right now. It's pretty fun. I had one part where two enemies cornered me and nothing I did would free me. Finally one of them turned a little bit and allowed me to roll away. Gameplay is fun and it runs pretty good on my Vita. Story is kinda meh for me right now but I'm hoping it will have some kind of tie in to the first God of War? I really enjoy the combination of mythology, some light puzzle elements, gameplay, and getting stuff to power up. Have a feeling I will be able to finish it relatively soon since I've heard it is short. Definitely worth the $7.49 I paid for it.

Cut me some slack. I was eating Pizza in the shower when I typed that

To be fair, if you were eating in the tub, you might have an easier time with higher brain functions.

I'm not too sure about the download list thing since I never bought a game digitally but even if they did I'd be for a few hours, hence acceptable. It's inevitable, just like servers downtime on a paid service.

But anyway, Valve's business revolves around the fact that piracy is a reality the second they put a game online, they can't have the control that Sony has on its own platforms without damaging their business with "over the line" anticonsumer measures.
Steam's "offline mode" is not exactly permanently offline, though. I guess even Valve is treating its customers like potential thieves.

Pretty sure offline mode is permanent.

And the Valve thing is a difficult, even impossible comparison. Steam runs on open systems that Valve doesn't control (Linux, Windows, OSX) where you can pirate anything without a second thought. If things were different, computers were closed systems and a game exploited one of the operating systems, giving compete user access, you can bet they'd remove it from the store while a security patch came out. That's called closing a loophole.

Edit: Ah, here we go, an example of Valve closing a loophole: you used to be able to share games with people permanently if they stayed offline. Family Sharing now only works online.

i know most vitagaffers avoid PSM but there is some hidden gems there like the totally awesome OutofMind (spiritual precursor of the new Console Saga game about to release the next )week. To all 2d platform lovers you will enjoy this game , support this guy it has made more than 10 PSM games already.

I think somebody (you or the next guy) used GS as an example of a retailer. I can apologize if you want, I didn't pretend to offend you in any moment. You can change that place for retailers and my opinion will be the same.

To be honest, I'll treat them as potential pirates too after seeing the PSP. CFW had some advantages, but most people (outside GAF) used it for piracy, not to play their old SNES games on a handheld.

SNES games were terribly emulated on the PSP too so CFW wasn't even useful for that.

Nah, apology from the other guy. And even at that I was being silly.

So true. The people who say they CFW for purely legal purposes are either lying or in an extreme minority.

Nope. Still not getting anything from PSM. Unless it's free
Maybe VitaBounce

It was an example, change SNES for GBA is you want.

Ok :)

About the second thing, GAF is gonna be GAF. Here you can have a 30 pages thread about how much they want the Vita to become their emulator machine (Super Mario World on dat OLED and using the D-Pad is really appealing, I'll reckon that xD). In the end we are informed gamers and often we buy games to support the devs, not only to play the game. If I told some friends that I spend 40-60€ to support a guy I don't know they'll send me to a hospital lol.

Most people doesn't have the full picture. They just think "somebody else" will buy it or just don't know how expensive is to localize a game.

Time to take a break from God of War and go back to Dragon's Crown for some trophy hunting. Cleared the first difficulty with my Dwarf named Brann after Brann Bronzebeard from WoW. Figured I'd name the other characters after Persona 4 characters. Some general Persona 4 spoilers are hidden below but just about party characters.

Elf - named after Chie, mostly because of the kicks

Wizard - will be named after Yosuke. both voiced by Yuri Lowenthal

Sorceress - will be named
Naoto
.
There is a cutscene that implies she is well endowed even though she tries to live life as a man for part of the game

Fighter - will be named Kanji. Just have to.

Amazon - can't decide.

I could always just make Chie an Amazon and make my Elf Yukari instead for the bows. May seem silly to do this but it's easier to grind through the easiest difficulty 5 more times when characters are named something I have a slight attachment to.

edit: whoa i can start my characters at level 15? that will make getting trophies for clearing the game with all characters so much easier

Smart As wants me to use an AR card to play one of the games but I have no idea what I did with that shit. I've had a Vita since launch and haven't used AR cards once. I hope this is the only game in Smart As that uses them.

Ugh... I bought Need for Speed Rivals and it's fun... But the pursuit seriously gets annoying. As a racer you constantly run into cops, and evading them is a pain in the ass. As a cop, you honestly don't have to worry about anything- if you want to do what you want to do, you can do it without being chased every 10 seconds of driving. I mean damn... The scales are definitely tipped in favor of the police.

I think Most Wanted is better overall, despite Rivals more or less being a better version of it. It was just a tighter more enjoyable game.

You can print them off here or just pull them up on your phone and use them that way.

Starting at level 15 and skipping quests is a total TRAP. Holy shit having no gear and no idea how to play a class and having to do B-side routes right off the bat is pure hell.

I was actually gonna grab Persona 2 after reading about that exploit but then I went to check the AU price only to findout it's $43.95.

Guess I'll just have to hope it gets readded at a cheaper price later or they have a decent sale on it.

Yeah Atlus' pricing of Persona 2: IS and Persona 3 Portable here is ridiculous. I grabbed the bundle of the 2 for $70something for the slight savings awhile back since I'm a huge fan of the series and always wanted to try the PSP remake of Innocent Sin, but it's definitely way too much to capture the interest of casual fans or people new to the series.

I just found out that BlazBlue Chronophantasma is coming to the vita.
So damn excited for that. BB Continuim Shift on the vita was flawless and really hammered in home that I was playing a PS3 game on the vita. Yeah I know it's 2D sprites and what not but I'm still very impressed to this day by it.

Don`t know if this is the place to ask but can someone explain how the Share games with friends work exactly?

Finally a friend of mine bought a PS4 and we would like to use it.

Anyone want to help me unlock the Ford Focus ST in Need For Speed?

It's the last car I need, unfortunately it's tied to online play.

Yea i agree, I have way too many games to play to justify spending 70 bucks on them, no matter how much a love p4g and p3fes. 40 bucks for both and its bought in a heartbeat though. :P

Unless they fixed it recently, it's not.

It is a bug if offline mode doesn't work indifinetly. Here is the most recent response from a steam dev I could find.

This is not actually true - Offline Mode is designed to be indefinite. You can't access any of Steam's online features such as friends lists or saved game synchronization, of course, but the client should allow you to run in Offline Mode for as long as you like.

That said, there are many components involved in Offline Mode, and some of them have known issues and bugs which we are continually working to improve. We're aware that it doesn't always work as flawlessly as we want it to, but please keep reporting bugs with Offline Mode. It is not broken 'by design'.

I know they said it's a "bug", but until they fix it it will be there. Konami cared enough to solve their Rising DRM "bug" in a few hours.

You can set one PS4 as your "main" PS4 or whatever. On your main PS4, any account on the system can play the games you own. On other PS4's, only your own account can play the games you own.

Yes or no to these PS3 games on sale on PSN?

Yes to Scott Pilgrim, no to Rayman 3. No opinion on the others.

Well I think that is the problem. It is only a bug for some users or some games. I have, and recently at that, had steam in offline mode for over 2 weeks without a problem.

Best thing you can do is report the problem(s) and which games wont let you launch. I'm trying not to be an apologist, I want them to fix whatever problems they have. Specially when it comes to optimizing their launcher.

At least exploiters get a decent game for once people really should play P2:IS and then beg Atlus to release the PSP version of EP with a new translation. The PSX release was bad. :(

Rain is short but great , Fat Princess is fun but hilarious, Rayman 3 doesnt need introduction and finally Scott Pilgrim i think is a little boring and repetitive but if you like beatem ups you are doing fine.
