Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this the first time that Captain Rainb---

I just realized its a Wii game that came out around or after Brawl!

Edit: I hope Skip LTD.'s IPs make it into smash, they deserve it.

Chibi Robo and Captain Rainbow would be awesome!

Caption on the Japanese page doesn't reference CR, just says this is also Little Mac and 'Burn of the fat!'

I think it's just varied over the years.

Generation 1 Jigglypuff. There's another version of the same drawing that has "more colors". Jiggly has both white and pink shades and the eyes are more teal rather than just blue or green. It's down to whether the modeler wants to use all of them.

In Pokemon Yellow, Jiggly's sprite is much brighter than Wigglytuff's.

Really doubt Captain Rainbow's gonna be playable, btw. Assist Trophy, sure.

I wouldn't doubt it that much. Both Captain Rainbow and Mac have one thing in common, and that's both of them getting Wii games after Brawl came out. I'd say he's more likely than people think. Wouldn't be the first time America got a Japan only character in Smash.

Captain Rainbow is a Wii game where you play a flamboyant costumed superhero who helps forgotten Nintendo characters. Most notable for a mission where you retrieve a sex toy for Birdo. (Not making this up.)

Most famous for featuring Birdo's vibrator. Developed by Vanpool who did the Tingle DS games, Dillion's Rolling Western 1+2, and who helped on Paper Mario Sticker Star.

Pauline wasn't in it, was she? I thought it was Tracy (that one girl from Link's Awakening).

EDIT: Yep. Other characters were Shin Onagashima's Hikari, Famicom Golf's "Ossan" (the player character), Famicom War Soliders, the Devil from Devil World, and Tao and Drake from Chibi-Robo, and Lip.

Honestly, me too. The only thing I know about that game is that chubby Little Mac is in it. I have no idea what the gameplay is like. Would someone care to explain?

EDIT: OK, people above explain what the premise of the game is, but how does it play?

There were quite a few characters in Captain Rainbow. Though, I'm not sure how much mind Nintendo pays attention to the game (considering it sold a stunningly low amount). Sakurai seems to know thanks to Little Big Mac (and hopefully Takamaru or Captain Rainbow himself)!

Sure, but whereas Little Mac's Wii installment was the latest in a franchise born back in the NES days, Captain Rainbow's a one-shot game that saw little commercial success. If we're going the Japan Only Precedent route, both Fire Emblem and Mother can brag about having much more of a legacy under their belts.

And what's this I'm hearing about the Japanese Smash fandom highly requesting Captain Rainbow? That'd be news to me ... Do bring on the proof, gentlemen!
 
Ness is barely a yoyo user when it only appears as two smash attacks. If Rainbow fights like Bridget then we have a yoyo user.

Interesting, Jigglypuff is my favorite Pokemon yet I never realized this.
I suspect it might have been done to differentiate between him and Kirby. Always preferred Kirby's color in Smash.

Here's the design from the original game. I think the plot line involved helping Little Mac lose weight so he could compete again (wait, what?), but I haven't got more than 30 minutes into Captain Rainbow yet.

As much as my main want is Mike Jones for bringing in a blend of both adept YoYo combat and general athletics into the mix, I think I'd be ok with Captain Rainbow too just because of how bat shit anything related to him could turn out.

You've been able to change the background in trophy mode in the previous titles so I see no reason why it wouldn't be the same case here.
 
Hypothetically: What if we were going to get one fondly remembered but decisively old school character and one obscure as fuck character from both sides of the pond and this update is suggesting as much? Like since we got Little Mac, Takamaru was coming for the ride too, but Captain Rainbow and Mike Jones were happening first?
