GiantBomb - TitanFall framerate in mech combat is not fixed in Xbox One retail code

But the final is still like around 790p right?

792 or 798. I forget.

Still thats a ~10% performance grab that could have gone elsewhere.

The IQ gained in that res bump is pretty damn minimal as well. A slight AA change would have done a better job. They (or MS) probably just didnt want to be labelled as 720 I guess.

Maybe the XB360 version is 720 and they wanted to be "better"

Yea I've gotta say this just sounds like something erroneous, I'm sure it'll get fixed really soon. Game like this was built from the ground up to glide at 60.

The beta certainly didn't "glide at 60", don't expect a patch to be able to to much about this. The optimization work is pretty much done.

Should have kept it at 720p.

I bet respawn had pressure on them to up the resolution late in development after resolution-gate and CBOAT and this is the price they pay.

Has there ever been a case of a downgrade patch? Cboat maybe retroactively right?

If this is true, no wonder he stuck to his guns. Especially with Respawn preaching 60FPS / performance is god like they have since COD.

The true Infinity Ward, right guys?

If this stuff is true, oh boy. I remember the amount of shit CoD Ghosts got for it's performance and resolution on next-gen and how Infinity Ward are the worst, most incompetent developers.

I wonder what the spin is going to be for Titanfall.

Well then you've got a problem. Definitely a problem. Is this why the 360 footage is nowhere to be found? How the hell is that going to go down if the next gen machine is having trouble?

What are the odds of the 360 version performing better than the XB1 version? I know Respawn are great and all, but Bluepoint are amazing at porting games.

He's not DF, he's just guessing as to how low the framerate went. You don't need to insult him just because he didn't meet your framerate-measuring standards.

There is a reason the title of this thread isn't titled 'TitanFall framerate in mech combat drops to single digits"

Because it's inflamatory with no evidence to support it at all. I guess your standards are very low for gaming journalists.

And you'll be lucky if they can fix it. Just look at Battlefield 4 as a recent EA game that, to this day, is still getting fixes and it's still not fixed or even close to it. And we're not talking about launch games anymore. Devs have had access to these machines with their final specs for at least 5-6 months. It might get better, maybe, but it also might just not really change.

Naw, i just know how people work. He gave an impression of the game and it's his impression. Sucks that his impression doesn't meet your standards, though. This has to be very frustrating for you.

bullshit. a drop from 60 to 30 is still perfectly playable, whereas a drop from 30 to single figures is not.

In the middle of a hectic firefight in a competetive multiplayer shooter?

I'd say framedrops of any rate are going to effect your gameplay in that situation. Especially when you're talking about halving the FPS like Gies is.

And that's the better of the two comparisons being talked about here. Titanfall potentially has both.

Does it glide like this glider did?

This is pretty disappointing.

Can't wait for the DF article.

792p is the strangest resolution ever btw. Why not just 720p?

True, though BF is all about eye candy, I'm sure they'll be able to reign some visual features back if the community reacts negatively to the performance.

This game is competing with a title rocket locked at 60, eventually the comparisons will probably start to surface.

If it turns out that bad, I hope reviews point it out. We need to retain some quality on release.

Interested to see the 360 version, it can't possibly be the same game.

They were just talking about increasing the resolution in a patch.
Either Microsoft is finally opening access to the second layer of the GPU, or there is still room for optimization.
I'd guess the latter.

How is it meaningless? They're not responsible for the game's technical competency.
But for being such a prominent title launching exclusively on their platforms, I would have expected them to have lent more support and supervision to bring the game up to par rather than the extensive PR and marketing campaign they have been focusing on. It just strikes me as outright bizarre.

Would you say there's a console war going on?

Nah

Everyone in this thread knows Titanfall is an incredible game and a blast to play. They're just sad the game has some random framerate drops. They all plan on buying it after a few patches on X1 or are going PC day 1.

:)

MS didn't develop or publish TitanFall.

nope but they paid a shit ton for console exclusivity so I am sure external pressure is being placed on EA to do more and its rolling downhill to respawn. 792 is such a non standard resolution, its feels like desperation..

Again, read the thread title and read what he says. Why are those two different? Not too hard to figure out methinks.

You think they don't have the power to let EA polish the game up and postpone the release?
What do you mean by 'let'?

If EA wanted to delay it, I imagine they would. That is my point, it's on EA/Respawn to deliver a polished package, not MS. The money hat has nothing to do with it. Would Sony be mocked if the exclusive DLC for AC4 ran poorly? They don't have control over that stuff.

MS isn't responsible for it looking, or running poorly, EA/Respawn are.

And instead it is crashing at single digits.

Truly mind bottling how bad the game looks while running this poorly. Maybe take out the bots and see if there is an improvement? But did Last Titan Standing even have bots?

So much shit surrounds this game. I'll just wait until it's out in the wild and you all are playing it. Just don't feel like I can trust the media on big games; positive or negative.

Framerate is key in competitve FPS. It's why I always hit F5 in doom to turn on super-shitty, super-pixelated low res mode so that my framerates doubled on my 480/dx33. I don't care if the other players are a super pixelated mound of blurriness now, at least my movements are crisp and fluid and fast enough to be competitve now.

Should have went with 720p.

it's still the difference between playable and unplayable, so to suggest that 60->30 and 30->~8 are 'just as bad' as each other is absurd

I consider drops to 30 to be unplayable for the kind of game Titanfall is. The poor performance of the beta on XB1 is the reason I grabbed the PC version instead, even though I'd prefer to play this game on a couch and with a controller.

Opinions, sure. Framerate drops and screen tearing aren't opinions. The media is untrustworthy, but I don't see many media outlets, especially GiantBomb, outright lie about this kind of thing.
