GiantBomb - TitanFall framerate in mech combat is not fixed in Xbox One retail code

So much shit surrounds this game. I'll just wait until it's out in the wild and you all are playing it. Just don't feel like I can trust the media on big games; positive or negative.

Looks and feels great to me on PC.

I'd say if you have an Xbox One you're safe getting it, worst case scenario the drops are too much and you sell it. Seems like enough of an issue to warrant waiting if you were going to pick up an Xbone for it.

What a joke MS is. Their flagship title looks like a last gen game and performs like one too.

Your post history is the best thing about this thread so far. I've never seen anything like it. Such anger over a console. You need a little perspective.

See, I knew all you were doing was the old PC evangelist schtick. So basically anyone who bought an XBox One, and keep in mind I don't even own the fucking thing, but anyone who does is just a fool and should have invested $1000+ into PC gaming. Unbelievable.

I think what he was getting at was a valid modus ponens argument:

1. If someone cares about numbers / performance, then they should get a PC for gaming instead of consoles.
2. Person X cares about resolution and framerate.
3. Therefore, person X should get a PC for gaming instead of consoles.

He also repeatedly used qualifiers regarding "if you care", such as
Don't buy inferior versions, when there are better options available and you claim to care.
meaning it's not an absolute that everyone should go on over to PC, it's only if they care. I think it's sound too because if people really do care about all those numbers and junk, PC is an open platform and you can get any kind of performance you want, if you have the wallet to pay it, whereas no amount of throwing money at a console will get you anything more than the resolution / framerate that devs give you.

I really do believe we will see some performance tweaks after launch. It might take a month for a patch, but they have already said a reso update will come, so whos not to say they cant fix the fps a touch as well.

Either way, havent played it yet. Will def voice my complaints if i feel them when i do,

I don't think its that bad. But I hope they'll patch it.

Gies is busy talking to his xbox to notice how low the frame rate gets.

Titanfall is knocking it out of the park review score wise regardless of these "hitches". Must be a truly mind blowing game to overcome single digit frame rate drops. Especially when the drops are occurring during the games core mechanic. I'm going to have to see these drops for myself. Any videos up yet?

30ish is what DF said about the Beta.

it's possible Jeff might have exaggerated somewhat, or just happened to encounter the absolute worst circumstances for the frame rate.

Yep. There are periodic framerate issues, that much is certain and seems to be the consensus, but the degree of the problem seems to be undecided. I'm betting Jeff just saw a situation that not many others have seen yet. The problems seem to be titan related from all accounts, so maybe Jeff just saw a very rare moment when everyone has a titan at the same time in close proximity? It might be a very rare thing, it might be common, we won't know until the masses are playing and more opinions are heard. I'm betting most framerate drops are very minor or they wouldn't have upped the res to 792 at all.

That said, I'm waiting a week to decide for myself on whether or not to buy....

It was never a thing, people just listened to the marketing and PR, which existed solely for you to put down for a pre-order.

Dedicated servers. That is all the "cloud" is offering.

I have yet to hear anyone parrot cloud PR as a serious advantage. But I don't venture outside GAF much. Has anyone seriously fell for the PR of cloud?

Getting this for PC when it's cheaper. But it looks like they should have stuck with 720p. What in the world compelled them to push the resolution to 792p when performance hits were significant as it is????

Edit:
For a fast-paced twitch action shooter I would expect most reviewers to knock a point or two for inconsistent framerate. Has that happened?

As mentioned earlier, it could have been MS not wanting to associate with 720p. It's not the strongest hypothetical, but logical.

fps capped at 60?

he did mentioned something about the game mode where everyone spawns as a Titan, so maybe that mode is the one that dips to single digits when shit gets heated?

It's running on a modified source engine. Source runs on a fucking toaster. How do you manage to run it down to single digits?

792p sounds more insulting than 720p. That just screams that you're not even able to hit sustainable frame times at any of the higher standard resolutions such as 900p or 1080p. At least with 720p they could say we devoted as much resources to frame time stability.

Edit:
I meant the usernames :D

oh... Oh... OH!

This is why the player cap is 6v6 I guess.

I didn't have any issues during the beta so I'm hoping it'll hold up OK.

and the frame rate dived down to what must have been single digits per second. Even out in wider areas, the game feels a little hitchy from time to time, and there's noticeable tearing throughout.

I honestly did not expect this from respawn...

This game seems to have been rushed to make its launch window release date. I'm not surprised by the performance issues and expect the sequel to run better, plus have much more content.

But I still think the game is fun enough to warrant a purchase. Even with its technical issues, it still shits all over Ghosts.

Wow single digit fps? That doesn't make me wanna see TitanFall :( heh.

But seriously Whitney Houston.gif. I just find it hard to believe a game that looks like that on a "next-gen" can still manage to go that low in fps. Maybe it was such a rare occurrence that just so happen he encountered.

lmao

Anyway no major problem in the beta (will see for the final game)

Only tearing i noticed was at the start when you jump from the airship and a bit of a slowdown while getting inside of a Titan, outside of those it went pretty smooth

I imagine 6v6 is fine when its all just pilots but when everyone is in their mech I imagine the hardware gets strained. Glad I'm getting the PC version ;).

Lets not panic.... as long as everyone keeps their distance everything will be ok... This is a Mech battle not a wrestling match...
Yes that's sarcasm

Actually, they never stated a resolution update is coming: It was all just non-commital statements saying nothing of essence. Don't expect one. I also wouldn't count on meaningful performance improvements, the bulk of the optimization work is done at this point.

Didn't gamers really enjoy the Beta and isn't this getting decent reviews? Listen I'm PS4 only but why is this basically a shit on Titanfall thread? Heck NeoGAF slows sometimes and crashes during the the biggest gaming show of the year every year but it's my favorite site. Bad analogy?
