They can say anything they want, but if 792 or whatever results in massive occasional drops in FPS and serious screen tear issues then they'll be hard pressed to do much else with it.
I'm sure you know more about it that the people being paid to work on the game. I'm so silly. Sorry for questioning you.

You work at Respawn? And/Or you've got the evidence to counter Respawn's claim that they're improving the game?

You shouldn't question me, you should question Respawn in how they're going to get a game to run much better and better looking with bells and whistles when it doesn't run well without them.

They wouldn't even be talking about it if it were going to hurt the framerate.

How would upping the res not hurt the framerate? The game's not a stable 60fps as it is @ 792p. So... a solution would be increasing the pixels on the screen?

Zuhzuhzombie!! is right: they can say whatever they want and not doing anything. "Sorry guys, we tried, but upping the resolution would only hurt the overall feel of the game." While not even making an attempt at all. But see that's where they win, because the overall message is, "we care about the fans, we're working really hard to give the fans what they want, etc." It's PR, whether true or not, and see, people feed into it.

The esram explains the resolution, not the framerate. If it was affecting the framerate, respawn wouldn't be thinking of optimizing the game up to 1080p. Sounds like the cpu is hurting the framerate.

And lol at people thinking that slightly dropping the resolution to 720p will significantly help the framerate.

ESRAM also has an effect on fill rate does it not? It might be time to wake up and smell the horseshit if you think Respawn is really going to get 1080p on Xbone with these same assets if they couldn't do it already. To me that's just "buy it now and we'll get back to you later with that" promises. This isn't a PS4 COD situation.

And why LOL at people saying 792p to 720p would help framerate? That's about a 17% difference in pixels being pushed. On the flip side, they went out of their way to boost the GPU reserve 8% just so the game would run smoothly presumably at 720p. I bet if they cut back to 720p they would solve the framerate issues.

Also if this is a CPU issue like you believe why would they go so far as to boost the GPU reserves avaiaible to solve their problems? Sounds like they believed it was a GPU issue, and even if they couldn't touch the CPU reserves the GPU reserves were changed so there must have been a reason for it.

This may be somewhat of a tangent, but if developers are going to go with oddball resolutions like 792p, why don't they instead just do a straight 50% redux of 1080p (136X x 76X or whatever it works out to be a 1.777 aspect). I was under the impression such types of straight 1:1 pixel doubling (or quadrupling, hexupling, octupaling in 4k's case) was objectively superior and the preferred method of scaling. It would actually work out to be slightly fewer pixels than 1408x792 with reputedly far better results.

Have you seen Frameratefall?

Har har, but seriously I don't think mainstream gamers will care about tearing and single digit fps. Personally I'm still interested. Will still be interesting to see the March NPD.

So has this been confirmed by any other reviews or is it just that the rest are bought off?

I believe Jeff, but shouldn't there be more than a single source?

Yes, I'm sure that all the other reviewers except Jeff were paid off to not include information about frame rate dips. Listen to yourself, man.

It is quite possible that the other reviewers didn't think it was necessarily worth mentioning because it doesn't take away from their overall opinion of the game.

We have Digital Foundry for the in-depth look anyway.

"We're likely to increase resolution after we ship"

*We're likely to say anything to get you to buy our game, assuming these number things influence your purchasing decisions.

The message should definitely suffice for the hardcore crowd and the game itself suits the rest.

I don't understand how this is getting 10's with such problems.

Then again a fun game is a fun game! I'd rather have games get higher rankings from actually being fun then technical problems that don't harm the fun.

It's one point higher than BF4 on PS4, and it was literally non-functional.

This explains a lot. The industry needs a review revamp.

NO. I love Jeff and I trust him more than any other reviewer, but I find it hard to believe that this game drops to single digital frame rate on Xbone.

This.

It's nothing personal against Respawn. I just don't trust most people in the game industry at all.

Surprised it's just as bad on the Xbone. I am having tons of problems getting this game to run on my PC. Have had a horrible time with it so far :( Really want to play but I'm just going to wait for a day one patch that will hopefully fix the bad stuttering issues.

seems like it runs ok for the most part.

Remember these reviewers been reviewing games on last gen consoles where the average game struggles to hit 30fps in recent years.

Anything above that people's eyes would explode.

Question: Did Ubisoft even say they would increase the resolution of AC4 or did they say exactly what Respawn said? I personally can't remember any statements.

It just seems like Respawn is being pretty defensive about the resolution and wants the Kool-Aid drunk by all with the "potential" up-res statement.

Should have kept it at 720p.

I bet respawn had pressure on them to up the resolution late in development after resolution-gate and CBOAT and this is the price they pay.

they had to please the resolution junkies

But normally i would defend them, but ugh single digits? That really is unacceptable

Dat panic.

Respawn has said they're still working on optimizing the code, so I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions yet.

This game needs be a smooth, functioning product right out of the gate with all the hype surrounding it. If they are still optimizing the code, then the game is not ready. I guess this is just EA or MS pushing the game out before it's done. Not surprised in the least.

Pfff single digit framerate? No big deal! It's more important to get that extra 72P. No compromise.

Should've stayed on da boat.
